I buy most of my cloths and all my shoes from charity shops. Occasionally Primark as well. Primark quality is good enough. There is no need to buy clothing 'brands'. A lot of the 'brands' are not the high quality that they may have been 20 or more years ago, and are often no better than non branded clothes. I wear my clothes until they literally wear out and are only good for rags. Also no need to go through the hassle of reselling the clothes. This is the cheapest way to buy and wear clothes.

You are a walking contradiction. You list all things you do to save money, yet you buy a very expensive Tesla car. Electric cars are more expensive to run overall. Yes the electricity charged at home is cheaper than petrol/diesel. But everything else wise it is far more expensive. Higher purchase price. Greater depreciation. Higher repair costs. Higher insurance. More expensive tyres that wear out quicker than non electric cars. A high price to instal a charger at home. Be under no illusion that running an electric car is cheaper than a non electric car.

I’m a 68 yo retired American. AmVets just picked up 10 boxes of clothes and household goods! I also cancelled Amazon, facebook, and lnstagram to not support the coup d’etat taking place right now. I’m donating hundreds of books to the local library. American here. I think that your teeth are perfectly fine! Americans are so wrapped up in their appearances, they pay lots of money for 'white chiclet' teeth. Everybody tries to look the same, meanwhile; people with slightly unique teeth have incredibly cute smiles! Keep smilin'! I agree with your list whole-heartedly...my 60s are all about no drama and seeking joy.

I retired at 57. It was 6 months after I had a Pulmonary Embolism. Since then I've had another DVT and found out I have systemic sclerosis. A year after retirement I helped my 45 year old friend through chemo for breast cancer. I just enjoy cycling, walking, weight training and relaxing. My friend is very spiritual and we joined a rock and lapidary club. Enjoy your life.

I get that. Too many people are living on assumption. They make long term plans with the expectation of seeing them through. They don't know for sure that their plans are going to manifest. While there's a good chance they may see them through there is no guarantee.

Got to be honest, it seems you’re obsessed with saving money. Surely when you retire, that’s the time to enjoy yourself. I’m not saying spend frivolously, but as my mum used to to say “You can’t take it with you when you’ve gone”. Save money, give it to the nursing home later……………..I think not. I’ll join many that get it for free (because I saved, and they didn’t)

You can chase goals and life achievements, but at the end of it all they are going to put you in the ground or an urn and everybody will go on with their lives and maybe once in a while a close friend or family member will have a fleeting memory of you but everybody else will care less.

I don't consider that I have become frugal as I became older as to large extent I always have been so. I have done what I wanted to do but always on the cheap as possible. I have always driven good quality powerful cars and motor cycles but these are often over 15 years old when I buy them. I have traveled most of the world and often stayed in 5* hotels but always manged to do so at minimum cost. As I have become older I hardly spend money on things at all as I already have everything I need and very little excites my attention. Paying basic bills is my greatest financial concern, but I really don't think I am missing out on anything. If you gave me half a million I don't think it would change my life much and I certainly would not buy a new car with any of it, or start flying off around the world as I have already been everywhere that I really won't to go. As a Freemason I have all the good mates and social life that a chap at my age could possibly have the time or energy for. My advice to young people is do as much as you can while your are young and don't put anything off. By the time you get to my age energy, health and enthusiasm will likely be your greatest problems, not money. The worst indeed most stupid thing to spend money on is THINGS. Things just hold you down and get in your way. Always ask yourself at least 10 times, "do I really need or want this thing" usually well before you get to the tenth time the novelty will have already dissipated and you will be glad that you did not bother to buy it. Pretty soon you get into the habit of hardly ever buying anything, which is an excellent habit to get into.

I held a man dying in my arms from a heart attack until he completely passed away. Watched his skin turn blue; his lips. He had crashed into my Moms boundary wall with his car, quite gently thankfully. His last deed was giving a younger lady a lift/ride home after their bus had run late. It gutted me for 24hrs and I was near catatonic. I am grateful to my then girlfriend for holding me and comforting me. I watched the tow truck drivers laughing and cracking jokes about how much money they would make from his otherwise pristine, near new car. I couldnt believe the callous nature of their beings. It changed my life forever. Today, I wonder what the heck people are doing chasing money. Positions of power. Etc. What a vacuous, inane way to live. I just came in from sitting in the sun, thinking that it was good enough for me to enjoy the rays (in winter/snow), and for me to be human. All else, is a mere...chasing after the wind.

I saw my favourite uncle dying slowly from invasive basal carcinoma of his face, commonly known as skin cancer. His name was George Davies, he never went on social media or did anything spectacular in his life, but he was kind and thoughtful God rest him. After he died my Mum went to view his body at the hospital and insisted i went too for support. Seeing this wonderful man lying dead in a hospital bed with a napkin covering one side of his face was sickening and heartbreaking. I miss him to this day. If you are fortunate to have older relatives still alive, please appreciate them and let them know how much they mean to you. They wont be here forever.

I love being alone, that way not have to deal with gossip and listening to people talk negatively about other people. I have had people I thought were my friends, but weren't. I can't wait to be able to retire. If I could , I would move to an isolated area with my musical instruments and pets., but I am not financially independent yet, I wish I was. So, instead I have to continue playing the game until I can retire in 11 years.

You want to save money and get a tesla? Cars are the biggest waste esp new / electric ones. Might be a goodd idea to look at the depreciation/ costs compared to an older ICE car. Of course if its a passion then just take the hit. Cheers
