Quick Attach brush thrasher - 2 year review
I’ve used this rotary cutter now for two years and hundreds of hours, figured it was time for updated review for those of y’all that may be looking into one. I am not affiliated with Quick Attach in any way, just wanted to help out those of you who may be in the market for a quality brush cutter.

MX5400 400hr Service and review
Переглядів 21 тис.2 роки тому
For as many MX series tractors as there are out there, there aren’t many videos on servicing them. With the rising costs of just about everything these days, I thought I’d make a video showing just how easy it can be to do the scheduled maintenance on these tractors yourself. I don’t show every maintenance item required in the 400hr service because many of them are very self explanatory, I do s...

Every now and then I need to cut something a little larger than the recommended size for this cutter so that I can access the rest of what needs cutting. I figured that I would film one such occasion for those of you who’s curiosity makes you wonder just how large of brush you can cut with this beast. After cutting, I measured the stump at 7”x5”. Hey. Great videos on the brush thrasher. How much torque are you using on the blade bolts and what tool is sufficient for that?

    Ok, judging from the dates of comments, we're 3 years in, how is she holding up? A sales rep sent me this video since I'm considering replacing my 7ft Land Pride with QA's largest brush cutter. I do a lot of property management for hunting clubs and land owners, I'll put 25 hours on it in just a few days. My Land Pride has served me well, but she either needs a break or a day spa trip to the welding shop. I'm thinking about getting the LP welded up and saving it for grass jobs and relying on the QA to shoulder the load of the trips to the woods.

      @@rickygatlin1291 I have a more recent review of it on my channel but it has held up extremely well. Functionally it is as good as the day I bought it and structurally it is still extremely solid with a few spots of surface rust but besides that it is still in extremely great shape. I actually sold it earlier this summer because I’m done clearing land and went to a 96” cutter more suited for clipping the pastures now. I sold it for $10 more than I paid for it new because they have gone up so much in price since I bought it and it was still in such great shape.

    Thanks for sharing your video. I am comparing different brands of 3-point tree cutters and being able to see them pushed to the limit like this is helpful. In case you haven't considered it, prescribed fire is the cheapest and most effective method for opening up your understory. It won't immediately create an open park like setting like you are doing with the tractor, but repeated fires over time will. It is also an easy way to maintain the openings once you have created them. You could burn your whole property in a fraction of the time and expense it will take to mow it. Federal grant funding may also be available to help you with it. Check with your local NRCS or agricultural extension office for local guidance and expertise.

    I purchased a Kioti DK6010SE Cab last year and have had a problem with it from day one that they aren’t able to fix. I just learned they are buying it back but asked what the hours are. I told them that after a year the hours have nothing to do with the buyback price. I want what I paid for it as I wouldn’t be needing to buy another tractor if this one wasn’t having so much trouble. We will see. I owned a Kubota B2650Cab before the Kioti but it ended up being way too small. I have a deposit in an MX5400 Cab and as soon as I get my check I’m going to purchase 0:01 it. I’m looking so forward to it. Thanks for this service video, pretty straight forward but always nice to see something done first. Nice job.

      I have a similar brush hog setup, and I wouldn't recommend it if you have anything over 1". When those blades swing out of the way on heavy stuff, it makes a huge racket, and shakes everything real bad constantly. It's ok occasionally, but when you're going through a pasture with a stand of small "trees", like autumn olives, it will pound the living sh*t out of your equipment. For multiflora rose, and heavy bramble, they're excellent, but they're just not designed for small trees. The cutters that look like this one, but are made for greater than 1" saplings have a larger flywheel with small swing away blades that don't cause a large off balance condition when they swing away. I'd tend to go more for an actual mulcher. I'm looking at a Baumalight MP348 for my TC30 now.

    Kudo's, sir. I work at a local Kubota dealership in the shop. I do PDIs (Pre Delivery Inspections) I admire how well you take care of your equipment. I wish more customers would do this practice. You save time and serious money simply by doing the regularly scheduled maintenance. I understand people are busy and some aren't mechanically inclined and simply ignore it. That is the worse case. Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you.

    Here is a suggestion for those of you that are as tight a$$ed as I am. I will save my hydraulic oils, or some of it anyway, and use it for "cutting oil" at my drill press and metal cutting band saw. And for those of you that do controlled burns I will take any old diesel fuel that is dirty and such, I will save that and use it in my drip torch, as I mix it at a ratio of 3 parts diesel to 1 part gasoline. I mean, why waste these fluids if you can use them for other things. Especially considering how expensive they are!

    That, sure does a lot better job than I would have thought it Possibly could - Especially with the hydraulic top line No added…! Considering modifying my HD Mower, to where the back is convertible from closed to open, and back - as needed… But, ideally, would like to have a front mounted mower, with a rear Power Pack - Biggest holdup to making that happen, is the $$$$ costs… But, sure would save wear and tear, on the Neck - and, would be sooner able to see, uncuttable obstacles - Before, hitting them…!!!

    • @blackstonefarmsouth596
      @blackstonefarmsouth596 Рік тому

      Everything is a trade off. Would operating this on a skid steer be more comfortable? Absolutely but I can’t afford to own both machines and I need a tractor for a lot of other tasks. Is it so uncomfortable that it subtracts from the utility of it? Absolutely not. Is my neck a little stiff after running it for two-three hours? Sure but not nearly as sore as my back would be if I were trying to do it by hand. For me it’s fit the bill perfectly, if you have $85k to drop on a lightly used skid steer and cutter and have a lot of ground to clear, that would probably be the better route but I already had the tractor and $4k for the cutter and I can do everything I want to 👍🏻.

I ordered the 72" in May and still don't have it yet. 12-week lead time when I ordered mine so hopefully arriving soon. I guess after watching this video, a hydraulic top link is getting moved to the top of my wish list. I have one question for you. I have an mx5400 open station, do you get much debris coming back toward the tractor? It doesn't seem like that is a problem from the videos.

    • @blackstonefarmsouth596
      @blackstonefarmsouth596 2 роки тому

      You’ll be fine, it’s not often anything hits the cab, if it does, it’s usually a piece that bounced off a tree or something and doesn’t have any energy behind it. Every now and then a tree or something will lay over towards the tractor but they’re not big enough to hurt anything. I will say, the cab has saved me from several hornets nests while I was mowing though 🤣. The hydraulic top link is worth every Penny and can be had for a couple hundred bucks, just make sure you check your PTO shaft length when you get your cutter though to make sure it didn’t bind anywhere through the cycle range.

    • @blackstonefarmsouth596
      @blackstonefarmsouth596 2 роки тому

      @@RiverRidge27 well, for the majority of tractors ever made, the engine, transmission, and rear axle housing are cast and made to be weight bearing. Sometimes you’ll hear this referred to as the “tunnel” but picture it as the core of the tractor. Basically every other part of the tractor is built off this rigid core. There is a pivot where the front axle is mounted but the rear axle does not pivot and there is normally no suspension on tractors. Interestingly there were a few older tractors I know of that were built off a frame like the old Allis Chambers WD. I can’t think of a single modern tractor that is built that way though. Tractors built like mine are very heavy duty and robust, the issue is when it comes to maintenance or repairs, you can’t just pull out the transmission as it is an integral part of the tractor and normally requires splitting the tractor in half to repair.
