Land of the Lost 1974 Vs 2009 Review - Sci-Fi, dinosaurs, Star Trek, Mysterious Island 1961 tribute

D.C. Fontana, David Gerrold, Theodore Sturgeon, Walter Koenig, Sid and Marty Krofft, Spencer Milligan, Kathy Coleman, Wesley Eure - these are the people that brought the 1970s Land of the Lost series to life! No relation to Land of the Giants, maybe slightly related to Lost in Space. What can I say about the 2009 movie?

Its an ok ep with a very spectacular reactor explosion, the biggest issue is Arthur Space has the cut through of a bland wet lettuce leaf, the props on all of Irwins and indeed fox's 60s output were interchangeable for economy, the shoots were very rapid (5-7 days typically)..

Interesting the connections you found. I've always felt that Irwin Allen's shows start off very strong, but then go from strong episodes to very schlocky alien stories. Time Tunnel (one of my faves growing up in the '60's) had some really interesting time travel around actual (or reasonably imagined interpretations) of actual historical events. But then come all the goofy aliens. In an alternate universe, Gene Roddenberry, rather than Irwin Allen was the creative force behind these shows. Despite the relative lack of inter-episode references in the original Star Trek series, there was still enough character development to make Star Trek a whole world unto itself, decades with motion pictures, variants, and spin-offs later. Irwin Allen's shows? Not so much. That being said, we have to take these as they are, with some very good high points, and some fair-to-middling, and some, well, yeah.

Basehart blew Hedison right off the screen whenever they had a scene.

I totally agree but some devoted female fans actually like Hedison more than Basehart ???? I find that hard to believe???

Just to say that the ones Richard Basehart liked the most was 'Cyborg' and 'Mutiny' which I must say I am surprised that one wasn't on your list as it is one of the very best episode's of them all, the acting from Richard was just amazing!

Thanks for watching. Mutiny was great I agree. There were so many episodes I wanted to include in my Top 5. So many great episodes!!!

The 1943 serial was more influential for the comics: 1. The Batcave or "The Bat's Cave" 2. Traditional Alfred But it's laced with anti Japan racism! 1949 serial-- more action,; a more fit Batman; 1st Vicky Vale in live action, although still too much like Lois Lane!

I agree the second serial was better as the 1943 one moved at a snail's with ridiculously sped up fight scenes. The only thing the 1943 serial had over the 1949 serial was that the 1st one had a better-looking batsuit, while the 1949 version looks more like a cheap Halloween costume.
