The oil filter has tabs on it. The housing has buttons in it. You need to twist the oil filter and make sure it’s all the way down.

Oil should only be drained when the car is on even ground, otherwise there will be left too much in the pan. prelubricating the bottom o-ring of the oil filter is vital.
