    One thing I’ve learned not to do on the driving range is after a bad shot getting sucked into swinging that one club for an extended time. Focusing too much on swinging just one club locks you into one set of “feels” that won’t be repeated in normal play hitting with different clubs. After 10, 20 or 30 swings with that one club you end up stretching all your muscles and “feels” out of their normal range, so that any progress you might make with that club is unrealistic. Or worse, you discover that you’re not making any progress with that club at all. I’ve learned that if you find yourself getting worse swinging that one club a few times it’s best you put that club away for a while. Swing your other clubs, then come back to the problem club for two or three swings max. Work on correcting a problem club slowly over a few sessions is better than repeating a bad swing hundreds of times looking for a quick fix.

    How many times are you faced with a clean lie on a pitch shot around the green? My course has many situations where there is 1” to 2” rough. Practicing on a driving range with driving mats isn’t like the real turf. Many golfers (mostly high handicap) resist hitting the mat properly because of the dislike of sudden shock to elbow and wrists. When a decent course has practice areas for pitching you see real improvement in your game. The other issue I have with practice tees is that on the course,50% of the time you’re not on flat turf. 🇨🇦👍👨‍🦳

    Now, what’s your pace of play? If it takes you more than 2 hrs to play 18 holes, with a cart, you’re too slow. I can play 18 holes in 1 1/2 hour on my home course. I shoot high 70s usually. Slow play is the most irritating part of the game.

    I watched the previous video that was mentioned and this one. I haven't been to the range yet to apply anything but I certainly am intrigued with the parallax idea. I most likely am not aiming properly so these two videos have been an eye opener since I do have a bad slice and have tried to adjust my grip with little to no change. I am glad to hear that you will be doing a more in depth video on this concept. In this video when your doing your swings and have some bad shots, the coach mentions swinging right and swinging left. Hopefully that terminology will be addressed in the next video as I don't quite know what that means. Thanks for making these videos.

    Excellent video as always. I am 72, play to a 14 these days, can walk 18 if I choose to, SR tees, unless I play with my son then I move back to the whites. My practice routine is pretty much what you were talking about, I concentrate on 100 yds and in. Only time I take practice swings are on those type shots just get a feel and see where my club is bottoming out on that particular day. I do not even hit balls anymore just practice putting grip length back to 6 ft on straight putts. Use 3 wedges 44, 52 and 60 and just hit those pitch and chip shots. Sometimes use a 9 iron to chip. Use the 60 for greenside bunkers and when I short side myself and have cut my putt distance in half with the 60. I also am fortunate to live on a course so I have a good idea when the practice green will be all mine. That's when I can practice those pitch shots and short side shots. I see people all the time go thru a 75-ball bucket just hitting ball after ball without any routine at all in less than 15 minutes. All they are accomplishing is digging up the range, it's crazy. All your videos have really helped, prefer my generation teachers instead of today's generation which mostly concentrate on lag and distance. My biggest problem these days is death perception, whatever my eyes are telling me I just swing a little harder and I always walk up to green on shorter pitches.

    Hi Coach Ed- excellent practical video. Can you do a video on club selection. My 60 degree is my nightmare club so i use mostly PW and gap but i don't know if this selection costs me strokes in the long run ? Do I concentrate on 1 club or use all of them ?? What's your experience ?

    Slowest swing ever. Shoulders to the right doesn't make the ball go right. Pretty sure these guys don't have any regard for face-path relationship Wtf. Highly disrespectful to Bryson, I'm old school, but there's no way in hell prime John Daly is out driving Dechambeau who's specifically done speed training for Long Drive. Daly has never sniffed 130 mph club speed.

    I went to the range and practiced this drill. I said in a comment below a local golf coach had me do that kickstand drill. But something else I did was buy a $5 can of athletes foot spray. Its Trackman on a budget. For something so silly that footspray gives you so much information!! I learned that I nest my driver and thus heel my clubs a lot. I lined up tee with the toe of my driver and all of sudden im seeing mark right in an around the sweet spot.

    At the beginning of this video I saw that your driver has an oversized grip. Would you be willing to touch on that in a future video? I've seen more videos pop up about grip size, but not a lot of information based on physical hand ir body size, age, mobility, etc. My Dad is 70 and about your size (from what I can tell) hes still got those blue collar hands but hes got some arthritis setting in which i think affects his grip. I would love to get him an oversized grip on an old driver he has to see how it works for him and maybe help him out a little bit before commiting to regriping all his clubs.

    • @edschwent1630
      @edschwent1630 4 дні тому

      That’s exactly why I have an oversize grip. I’m getting old and my hands hurt. I’ve had a jumbo size grip on like Bryson has, but I thought that was just too large and have since gone to a midsize. I don’t have to squeeze near as hard it relaxes my hands and forearms, and I think I generate more clubhead speed, I think it’s an old wives tale that larger grips prevent release. I’d recommend he tried at least on one club to see what he thinks.

    I absolutely love this video! I watch a channel with Danny Maude and while I like a lot of his techniques I feel like my backswing and swing path doesn't work with some of his lessons. So I keep sticking with what is working and trying to make microadjustments. I'm 43 and the flexibility thing really hit home. Got my first lesson tomorrow and going to mention this video to the instructor.

  • @TeddyCavachon

    It’s not just the speed that makes the wrist angle important. What stops the ball is backspin and the interaction of club face ball and lie / contact of ball with the turf as it comes off the are all variables one can’t control consistently if flipping club face under the ball with a flick of the wrist.

    Thank you soon much for these videos. There's a lot of good instructors on UA-cam, BUT you sir have the closest methodology to how I was taught 30 years ago by one of the absolute best. Im not going to drop names. Im not even sure she's living anymore. Certainly shes not teaching anymore. But you teach the same habits she taught me to have. So good. We all need reminders and refreshers of the good habits when we haven't played in a while. I'm picking the game back up after several years of putting it down for one reason or another. Thank you very much for your instructions. If you were in Texas I'd be scheduling sessions with you.

    Not sure how old this guy that is getting the lesson is but his club head speed seems really low. He says he is working on speed training. Well it must not be working. The alignment is off for sure but if he is aligned to the right he was still putting balls all over the range ( at a short driving distance ) if he adds club speed with that spread he will be in the bush far too often, line him up square and still all over the range. The swing is so relaxed and effortless that it seems he has no idea where the club head is. No lower body power added to the swing. I am no pro but it seems like a terrible swing. I am 54 with 4 degenerated disc, 7 total bad discs total ( facet hydrotrophy ), numerous injuries that never fully healed from playing sports all my life and I have a driver swing speed of 108 and hit 270 plus drives at sea level. Sometimes on a hot day they climb into 290 and the odd one 300. Toss the driver away , hit 3W or purchase a mini driver and surely score will be better.
