    Hi mate. Good timing on your brakes! Ive got drums all round with dual circuit but last time driving the brakes seem to have gone off somewhat. There’s definitely still some braking there but they are definitely worse than they were. Any thoughts?

    • @Als.Garage
      @Als.Garage Рік тому

      Hi Paul, first thing I’d check is the fluid level in the reservoir. If it’s gone down you may have a leak. I’ve found it’s most likely in a slave cylinder in one of the wheel drums. If that’s ok they may need adjustment. There is no automatic adjustment as your brake shoes wear down. The thing to do is jack each wheel up in turn and look through the peep hole on the front of the drum with a flashlight as you turn the wheel. You will see the slave cylinder and a toothed wheel on the end. If you use a screwdriver turn the toothed wheel until you start to feel a small amount of resistance when the shoe touches the drum. Do this on all wheels and it may improve. Hope this helps

    those nylock nuts are a real PITA, in that one must hold the head of the bolt tightly with something, otherwise the nut is impossible to tighten. used to be that sometimes one could get lucky and tighten a regular nut down by hand to the point where friction alone would hold the bolt tight. and the tighter one tightened the nut the more friction was created resulting in even LESS reason to hole the bolt head.... no more!, damnit!

A combination of lack of money and or time and other stuff that needs doing yesterday. I took it off the road 49 years ago because of frame rust, kept it in buildings or under cover until 2007, it has been outside since, now it is a mess. I've watched a lot of rebuild videos, time to fix my car. You all have encouraged me to make room in the garage and get to work. What else is retirement for?
