Hope to do some camping there in the winter sometime. Looks like Grand Bend hasn't changed in 40+ years. Looks beautiful! Have a great week.
Jean, I hope you do get a catch to return to the area. If you do, let me know...I'm about an hour away. Grand Bend has changed a lot with many new businesses built along Hwy 21 and Hwy 81 areas leading into the "Bend". The strip itself (where I filmed) now has some year-round restaurants...but the charm hasn't changed. I stayed in the Bonnie Dune Inn on the beachfront around 40 years ago...and it's still there! Winter is a beautiful and much quieter time to enjoy that beach community and Pinery. We loved the tranquility. Enjoy your week too!
I videod cruise trip ...2 emplpyees NOT ILL, ran out of barf bags..I sold it to CNN!
REMEDIES FOR SEASICKNESS
WE were in front of the EMPRESS & a ship ran into the wharf,,,we backed up...We were extras in THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON..inthe EMPRESS.
WE lived on SAN JOSE in VICTORIA...I worked for the TIMES COLONIST & she was asst to Social Services Minister!
Lucky you to have lived there Judith! Must have made some great memories!
THANKS FOR GREAT MEMORIES!...My nephew has a trailer there! Ab ranchers put steroids in the cows!
Glad the video brought back great memories Judith!!
What a dynamic video. You had it all. Sun, snowflakes, beautiful landscapes, black-capped chickadees eating out of your hand, the cabin tour, Shannon’s artwork, xc skiing…. Really enjoyed this one! 🇨🇦❄️🐧
Just seeing a similar comment posted before mine. I swear I didn’t copy it! 😂😂
So glad that you two enjoyed this video and our time at Pinery. Sometimes you don't need to go far (it's one hour away from home!) to enjoy a different setting full of all the right things to explore. Thanks so much for watching Carol and Deb!
Forgot to mention how beautiful and colorful Shannon's art is...she is quite talented.
Enjoyed watching what you two are up to. We also enjoy winter hiking. Our hobby is feeding birds of all kings and squirrels on our small acreage...whatever doesn't get eaten during the day gets wiped up during the night. The Pinery is on our list before Pelee National Park...the very last Nat. Park to hike and camp as we managed all of the west and the Yukon in 2024. This year is the East Coast...we watched your videos so we can hardly wait. Cheers and hope to meet you some day on our travels.
Wow, the East Coast...fond memories for us for sure. I'm glad you got to see some of them in our videos. Before we had a UA-cam Channel, we flew in to NS to travel around the Cabot Trail. What a great experience. I hope you set aside time for that...but be careful if doing it while towing. We just drove a rented SUV. As for planning time at Pelee, it's wonderful there. Not sure you can camp though. Might only have group camping areas for students, scouts, guides and the like. But check out Wheatley for a great place to camp. We have many videos of Wheatley that include day trips to Pelee and consider Jack Miner's Migratory Bird Sanctuary while you're there! So glad Shirley, that you enjoyed the video about our time at Pinery. Funny how we've crisscrossed pathways over the years!
Great video. Grand Bend sure has grown from the days I remember back in the 80's, yet it still seems to have retained its charming character. Loved the shot of Shannon peeking through the window. 😅 Nicely done overall. 👍
Glad you enjoyed that Daryl. Yes, Grand Bend used to be a sleepy town in the off-season but has really grown. I used to enjoy going there too in the 80's. You have to keep your eye on Shannon...never know what antics she might be pulling...haha. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed spending some time with you and Shannon at the Pinery Cabins. Love the cabin, it looks so cozy and inviting. Thanks for taking us along for the sights and sounds as well as seeing the snow cover and the Ausable River. The selection of music is always a perfect fit for each video. Blessings!
Thank you Richard, for joining us virtually on this outing. I'm happy you enjoyed the sights and sounds and beauty of Pinery. And no better way, in the winter, than spending time there in a toasty cabin. Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful spot to go and relax any time of the year ❤ 😊 Gorgeous views , and nothing but amazing things to see. The hike looked very enjoyable and peaceful, such a fantastic place ❤ Who wouldn’t want to experience Pinery 😊 Gorgeous ❤ Thanks so much again ladies for sharing another wonderful video. Take care as always. Stay warm and enjoy the rest of your week 😊❤ Until next Tuesday 😊❤🌻🌻🤗
Thanks for joining us virtually on this getaway Tammy. Have you been to Pinery? We love it there for its beauty, in any season and it seems that it strikes a chord with others too. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
You are so graciously welcome 🤗 No , unfortunately, I haven’t had the pleasure or opportunity to experience the beauty at Pinery. Maybe one day in the future 🤞❤️ It truly looks like a delight 😊 Thanks again Kathleen, so much appreciate your love as well for the outdoors 🙌❤️😊 Take care as always , stay warm and have an amazing day 😊❤️🌻🌻🌻 Until next time 🤗
I live near not far from the Pinery but I wasn’t aware that they had winter cabins. Nice 👍
Tanya, the cabins are fairly new. The one we stayed in is less than a year old. Hope you get to rent one some day.
I live in London, and once rented a yurt at The Pinery with friends. Didn't know that cabins were available.
Hi Steve, we watched them build these cabins last year. They are of a great design and don't quote me on this, but believe they will be replacing the yurts which are older now, by these new builds. The heated mudroom is a huge step up from the original cabin we stayed in a few years ago. It's a great way to enjoy the off-season at Pinery.
@@HikingWithKathleen I didn't realize they were so new. The first (and so far, last) time I rented a yurt was 2014, so quite a long time ago. But they look like they will be quite a step up from the yurts in terms of comfort and other amenities.
Such a nice video: hikes, drives, snowy landscapes, birds and feeders, cabin accommodations and a delightful dinner! Thanks Kathleen and Shannon!😊 Luis
So glad you enjoyed that variety Luis. We love our getaways where we pack a lot into a few days. Thanks so much for watching!
So nice to watch the beautiful winter landscapes in snow 😊😊😊 we dont have any snow at all
I'm glad you enjoy that change of scenery with our winter weather. It sure does brighten up the natural settings with a blanket of snow. Thanks so much for watching!
I spent the first 4 day of this month in a camp cabin :) I tend to enjoy the Pinery more during off season now. Have you ever checked out Mystery Falls? It’s maybe 1/2hr from there
I agree with you - Pinery during the off-season can be more enjoyable since it's less busy. Besides during the years I worked there, I tend to avoid it during July/Aug. I'm glad you mentioned Mystery Falls. We went to Rock Glenn CA about 3 years ago and I've been thinking about heading back there. And I'd never heard of Mystery Falls in that area. Sounds like it'd be worth checking out. Thanks for the pointer.
Beautiful area, looks and feels so cozy and picturesque! ❄️
Thanks Ervin! Yes, it was a very cozy yet scenic place to spend a few cold winter days! Thank you so much for watching.
Another great video. Am I correct in assuming most if not all of your wildlife shots are taken with that long lens? Thanks again Kathleen.
Glad you enjoyed that Daryl. Funny you should ask about the lens used for the wildlife. Well, it turns out that just before Christmas on a very cold day, I hurriedly took my Canon camera and that awesome 100-500mm RF lens plus the 2X extender off the tripod to call it a day...and dropped the lens. Yep, I got the repairs done and picked up the lens after the New Year. Sooo, the shot of the Snow Goose was done with Shannon's 100-400 EV lens...and oh, how I wished I had the reach of my 100-500 + 2X extender for that shot. However, hers gave a clear shot of that unexpected visitor. But all other wildlife shots in that video were with my long lens.
Oh, so sorry to hear about that beautiful lens. Glad you were able to get it repaired. That said, Shannon's lens did the job.👍@@HikingWithKathleen
Lovely gentle winter walk. Wonder if the snow goose was too young to keep up with the flock and dropped out of the migration. It does seem strange for a lone bird to be there. Thanks for the dose of nature today.
Yes, that was interesting to see that lone Snow Goose. Went back to the Thames River a few days later and it was nowhere to be found, which doesn't mean it couldn't have moved downriver. But at least it was accepted by the Canada Geese. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching Jean.
Did I ever need that video today ! 😆😊❤ Great to unwind to the refreshing pleasant sights and sounds of nature ❤❤ Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful 🙌 Loved every moment 😊 Thanks for sharing such amazing hikes , they are always a delight ❤ Take care ladies and have a lovely week, until next time ❤🌻🌻🤗
Thank you Tammy. I'm glad you agree that immersing oneself in nature, in-person or via our videos, helps to unwind. Thanks so much for watching.
You are so very welcome ❤️ Take care and enjoy your day 🤗❤️🌻🌻
I love it, love it, love it!! It's another wonderful escape amidst beautiful wildlife. I was surprised to see any robins that far north. As always, Shannon did a great job with her music selections. It so sets the mood and adds to the enjoyment of the video presentation ... along with a nice fresh blanket of snow cover. I look forward to next Tuesday :)
Great to hear your enthusiastic feedback Richard. Glad those Robins surprised you too. Thank you so much. We both appreciate your kind words.
I always learn something new! Thank you!
That's great to hear Rosemary. Thanks for watching.

You're welcome Judith! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful, as always.
Thank you Charissa.
What an interesting hike! It is always great to watch how you expertly show wildlife sightings. Thank you so much. Luis
Luis, you're such a delight with your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for your support.
Next week sounds nice, thank you for the video! Hope you have fun.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Ah Pinery, love that place! We're back home now and I'm busily reliving our time there while editing next week's video. See you back here next week:)
Wow…the Cardinals ❤️❤️❤️, interesting? Will the snow goose mix with the Canadian geese, could it be injured, and has a problem flying, interesting.🌞🍎✨✨✨
Hi Claudi, I think the Snow Goose was just mixing with a similar species even though they usually tend to flock with other Snow Geese. It moved around normally and the Canada Geese didn't seem to mind its presence among them so I think it was just finding safety in numbers with other similar birds. It was an interesting sighting for sure! Glad you liked the cardinals!
Delightful episode, racoon shot was absolutely brilliant! Your content is always educational, always!!!
Thank you Ervin! I'm delighted you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching!!
Handling feral cat situations requires care and compassion. It's important to provide a safe environment for the kittens while seeking advice from local animal shelters on how best to approach the situation. I enjoy following your adventures. 💖
Thank you for your comments. That means a lot to know that you have been enjoying our adventures.
Oh, Kathleen <3 Thank you for being such a wonderful steward of nature, both wild and domestic and everything in between.
Thank you for your kind words. It was a difficult thing to give them up but it was such a relief to learn of the positive outcome. I'm glad you enjoyed that Melanie.
Loved the book recommendations - thank you
You're welcome. I hope you find enjoy some of those recommendations!
Great music of the raccoon 🦝 and heron!
Glad you enjoyed that Tracy. Such beauty can be found at Wheatley Provincial Park!
@ I think we’ll be stopping there for a few days enroute to Newfoundland this summer, if I can find a big enough site for our rig. I want to visit Point Pelee NP and I think it’s close.
@@TracyBirds Yes, Point Pelee is about 20 minutes from there. We travel that area too, each time we camp in Wheatley. Me too Daryl. It was a relief, especially for Momma Cat. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing this experience Kathleen.
You're welcome. I hope it helps folks know what to do. Thanks for watching Rosemary.
Thank you so much for caring for Momma and her kittens❤
I'm glad you enjoyed that. I was relieved that they are found a good home. Thanks for watching.
I recall watching that episode ❤ So much thought and emotion went into the future life of mama cat and her babies 😊❤ That was a beautiful thing what you ultimately did for them ❤ So happy to hear they all were able to have a wonderful future because of the love you both have for animals ❤❤ I enjoyed seeing that sweet little video again 😊 Thanks again ladies, take care , stay warm and have a wonderful week 😊❤❤🌻🌻
I'm glad you enjoyed seeing it again. Thanks for your kind comments Tammy. We're on a little getaway right now so new footage is coming up next week!
Looking forward to the next one , take care and enjoy your getaway 🤗❤️❤️🌻🌻
Hi Kathleen. Great overview of how to deal with feral cats in the proper way. I do recall you showing this before but still interesting and a good refresher. Blessings!
Thanks for watching it again Richard. We are now on a little getaway so new footage is coming up soon!
A bit different video but no less interesting! Everything you film and edit looks and sounds so professional! 👏👏
Thank you Ervin. I saw that you commented last week but before I could reply, your comment disappeared! You're such a great supporter. Thank you.
We live in a rural area, and people have always just dropped off cats near our farm. A couple of years ago, we had to have a cat rescue come and help catch, spay/neuter, and rehome almost 15 cats. It was out of control. We did take back 3 who were too wild to be pets. Excellent pest control.
I'm glad you used this method too, to put a stop to their natural tendencies, and yet, were open to allowing the wilder ones to remain once they were neutered/spayed. It's a good system without causing them to be put down. Thanks for choosing the humane way...and yes, they can provide excellent pest control. Thanks for watching Charissa.
Lol you had me confused, this is an old video right☺️ soo sweet, so sad, love to the animals born outside, life can be uncertain for them, unless they meet kind people like you and Shannon ❤️ sweet baby camera🌷🍎, and best wishes to you, I hope all is well🌞❤️
Thank you Claudi...for your kind words and for watching this video (again!). That was a tough situation but we're relieved it worked out well for the whole feline family through adoption. Today are on the doorstep of a getaway that you'll hear about referenced in next week's new (current) upload.
Happy New Year to you and Shannon. Thank you for your book review. Will share with friends and family. A book to add to your list is: Brave the Wild River by Melissa Sevigny. “The untold story of two women who mapped the botany of The Grand Canyon”.
Thank you and Happy New Year to you two as well! I really appreciate your book recommendation. Wow, it's about their wild on the Colorado River. Just looked it up. And thanks for passing along my favourite books from 2024 to others in your circle.
Happy New Year Kathleen and Shannon...wishing you both the best! Really, really enjoyed your videos. May I ask if you were staying just north of Tamarindo ? It is still on our bucket list but want to avoid the REALLY touristy spots...it seems that your rainforest segment was more our scale. Anyways we better do it ASAP as time flies. Thanks for this.
Happy New Year Shirley, great to hear from you! I really hope you do get to experience Costa Rica. This was the second time that we stayed at this resort, Occidental Tamarindo and loved it. It's about a mile from Tamarindo which offers amenities. I took a daylong bus tour, arranged at the resort, to visit the rainforest, waterfalls, and other spots. Shannon did not join me because she knew from our first time, that the winding roads could be difficult for her as she can get motion sickness and the highlights were 90 or more minutes from our resort. To stay or travel more quickly to more remote locations, you could stay closer to Liberia (airport town) or east of that. Find out the pros and cons though...maybe more rain closer to the rainforest, during the dry season. We absolutely love Costa Rica and will likely return one day. I'm delighted that you have been enjoying the videos. Thank you so much for writing Shirley!
