Other streamers like DougDoug and Ludwig have done a version of this idea. Legally speaking I don't think this is a scam; but there can be many issues. Once the money is donated to Matara, and she pays taxes on that; its her money and she can do whatever she wants with it, including investing it (and paying fees on that if applicable). So as long as everything is handled right, it might be ok. The issues: The currencies that momos may be donating in, the access and security of her bank account + brokerage account, the laws around WHEN the donated money becomes HER money, the regulators checking the origin of her sudden investments and money etc

Full break matara what you are talking about is a Roth account I advise you to go to a professional. So a Roth is a account you put money in to start investing in stock, the professional takes that money and invests it for you in stocks that make decent money long term like penny stocks that way if the market sucks you don’t take as big of a loss any money that stock does make can be pre taxed and put back into the Roth. So when you retire at 60 plus, you don’t pay taxes on that Roth when you take out the money. Roth accounts takes years so like with mine I started with 3,000 like decade later it’s up to 30,000 and sometimes it does go up or down in that Roth depending on the stock market. You can also have more then one Roth. Go to a professional office do lots of research

So I looked it up, and horrifingly there do seem to be APIs that let anyone start doing market trading. They do seem to require you to make an account with them and go through a proper legal process. That said, this has to be the worst idea for a first project. If the program just buys stock that's too simple to really teach you anything as you'd just be calling one function. But the potential to do something horrifying exists, like taking a short position or an option call. I'm also not sure Matara knows how cut-throat, mean, and full of scammers this area of coding is. Now if she wanted to do paper-trading, like viewers could donate and it could "buy" the stock using market data, but without actually sending money, that could make a fun project with no risk. Aside from the myriad legal problems with doing this, anything that involves real money like this could easily lead to bad blood and hurt feelings in her community. And if WSB has shown us anything, crowd sourcing investment advice is pants on your head stupid.

She should write a program that takes the rounding difference in every transaction from every donation and transfers it to a separate account. And then go destroy a copying machine.
