LS400 Update: Final Video?
In this video, I highlight the changes and repairs I've made to my 1999 Lexus LS400.
Unfortunately, at the time of this upload, the Lexus has been sold in the interest of efficiency, and I will be looking for a more fuel efficient daily driver.
It has been a fun ownership experience, and hands down the most trouble free and reliable car I have ever had the pleasure of owning.
Thank you to those of you who followed along in this series, and just know that the car has gone to a great home where it will be taken care of for years to come.

This video outlines the process and information you need to delete the factory navigation unit in a 1998, 1999, or 2000 Lexus LS400. In this video I show how I was able to bypass the factory amplifier without cutting any factory wires at all, and install an ATOTO aftermarket double-din head unit in the vehicle. It is a tim consuming, but very simple process that requires more effort than the no...
1999 Lexus LS400 137,000 Mile Timing Belt Update
Переглядів 2013 місяці тому
This is a video documenting the half way point during the timing belt job that I did on my 99 LS400. This was the original timing belt and water pump on this car after 25 years and 137,000 miles. Really a testament to Toyota build quality and rather shocking that they did not fail. Legacy Interior Detail and Little Update
All this video for no sound?
I can get 320-350 miles out of my 93 LS400 HWY/City combined. On the Highway only, I can easily get 350-400 Miles just sitting on cruise control.
Great content, your voice want over the top and your knowledge kept me to know more. Don't even have this car, i stumbled onto this vid and had to subscribe. Can't wait to see some of your mods and updating. Great job man and where/how you only pay that price is there a website 😮
I have question why you deleted amplifier ? I mean is it not compatible with stereo or wat else!!
Overall, a dirty vehicle. Hope it is clean at this time though. Mine is clean and cut. (jk)
If you want to sell the CO's let me know Bro . !
Dude ... awesome video . I have a 2000 that I have been researching this swap on and you just nailed all of it !!! Good Job bro ... good job. I do have to ask what spoiler do you have on there ?? Thanks !!!
So did you need a new AC controller from a non nav as well?
yes
It's looking really good and I appreciate the budget build philosophy. Love the wheels; I'd been thinking of lowering my '05 but maybe all I need is slightly bigger tires.
So many memories in this car. i drive a silver one
Would this work for the nakamichi amp also?
Don’t think so bc I have the nakamichi and I just got the connectors and they don’t fit
These 5 series E39 are amazing , very good body & the engine is one of the most reliable BMWs out there .
Did the hood mask come with the CRV or did you buy it? If so where?
I'll never sell mine 😊
No issues with climate control plugs? When I went to test the controls I had purchased a long time ago it didn’t fully operate correctly(been a while so I can’t remember what exactly went wrong)
GREAT video though!!! Glad I found this on a post!
No issues with my controls at all other than the fact that they were in worse condition than my nav unit
I appreciate the feedback! What post brought you here if you don’t mind me asking?
great video series! I've been thinking of buying a LS400 for years so everytime I find content like this, I watch it. Yours has been one of the best I've found yet. Keep the good work!
Thanks! That means a lot
really appreciate your work, man!
What front lip do you have? I have been looking for something exactly like that
It’s one of those generic ones you can buy unpainted from eBay
Thank you for the video, going to test drive a 99 on Saturday, they are asking 3000, 128,000 miles, it is gold, two little dings, it’s an awesome shape, I am in Tucson, I will follow your videos, hopefully we can stay in touch to see how we do with our cars. I am curious to know where you got your timing belt kit? Thanks I saw a video about these cars the guy that did the videos said that it is hard to get parts for this car, what have you noticed so far?
It is pretty easy to get parts in my experience. Most of the drivetrain components are shared with other Toyota and Lexus vehicles so that stuff is plentiful. I got my timing kit on Amazon and the crank seal I got from Toyota. If you have trouble finding that stuff, the whole timing system is exactly identical to the 4.3L (3UZ) and the 4.7L (2UZ). So the same timing kit will fit this car, and most Toyota trucks from the early 2000s
Take it off
How to activate 4x4
It is always in 4x4, but it can send more power to the rear wheels if it detects wheel slippage. The whole system is automatic though.
Did you find a access to the trunk to run the wires for the new amp and sub
I did not, but if you take the rear seats out and the carpet lining the trunk, the only thing in your way would be the gas tank, and I’m willing to bet you could find some room to snake a wire around it.
How do you like the stereo you put in it is the quality good?
Yes it is a great quality stereo for the money in my opinion. I have used ATOTO radios for many years in multiple vehicles and am always impressed with the quality at that price point.
Thinking about it man. Seen one online 2002 170k miles just never had a bmw so kinda debating selling my daily rn.
It was my first BMW too, and my daily driver at the time. Really impressive car and I regret selling it often.
@Sassquatch Did you buy?
@@GuciTheBulldog1 had to pass on it my man. Things been kind of rough lately. I'm still in the market for one. I just had to dumb some money on the other daily's. Fingers cross I can get one this year man. Something about big body sedans are dope.

I've got the 2007 3R premium, such a sweet car. You didn't give us a promo of the new exhaust sound!!
I have some old clips somewhere I will post. It was an awesome car, but I started driving a lot so I needed something with better mpgs :(
@@slushboxer with the cat back how did you get around the o2 sensors throwing up the engine light?
The cat back should not affect your O2 sensors at all. It replaces all of the piping AFTER the catalytic converters, and right behind the rear O2. My catalytic converters were bad on the car previous to the catback install, so I would have needed to replace them to remove the check engine light regardless
Awesome! I have a lower mileage 2007 Outback, 2.5 L 5 speed manual. Power and heated cloth seats, great sound system. Ice cold AC and good heater. Heated mirrors and where the wiper blades sit. My first Subaru, love the car so much. Mechanically has had some issues, but it will start up no matter what! I need to get a new steering rack for it, so currently not driving it on the highway because it shakes over 45 mph. I do use it most days to drive on our farm from one side of the property to the other. I put the Falken Wildpeak trail tires on it, and this last winter didn't need to swap the snow tires on. I want to keep it for as long as possible, I think it is a worthy platform to invest into. Love how practical it is. I made reflectix window covers for camping. It is a beast in the snow, the manual makes it fun to drive. We recently got my sister a 2010 outback, tan leather etc that is a great car too. We are looking for one for my dad as he could use a go to work car that gets better gas mileage than his truck.
They really are great vehicles. Snow driving is definitely one of the strong suits and I’m sure the 5 speed makes it really fun
❤❤❤❤❤
love pov vlog videos, amazing car great work man
Thanks!
Good job man, looks really nice! Do you know if Sti end mufflers fit outback midpipe flanges? Or do I have to swap whole section like you?
I believe they will fit length wise but the bolt holes are clocked differently on the STI midpipe so you would have to get creative with the mounting
good car .
I love vlog videos like this. You should do more like this. Definitely going to miss the LS!
Can you recommend where I can buy parts for the same car,? Need headlights, hood and front bumper
I think your most cost effective option for those parts would be to find them used at a junkyard or from a partout on Facebook marketplace
Ha, we are doing the same thing. Had to order my AC controls from overseas but I have the double-din kit already.
Good stuff, let me know how it goes and if you have any questions feel free to ask
This is tempting to try. Wish I had time to do it.
You should have seen the timing belt removed from my 1998 Lexus GS300 original belt had 159k miles on it it was pissing oil from both cam seals the vvti gear o ring and front main seal it was a little worse than your timing belt 😅😅 glad I checked the timing belt couple months ago just finally did it 2 weeks ago
Sounds like you got lucky! Pretty amazing that wear items like that can last 25+ years and well past their mileage interval
I have had 4 UCF10 LS400s, and a Toyota Celsior (JDM LS400), my first 90 LS400 I got for 650 bucks it was headed to the junkyard but I saved it and all it needed was 4 new tires and a good cleaning, my current 1990 LS400 burgundy pearl on burgundy one of the most rare LS400 colors to exist only a few hundred made, with almost 300k miles. I also find it odd that you can’t fit in the back seat, Im 6’1 and can lay back perfectly fine in the backseat, maybe the 98s+ are different in interior space.
That is strange. I’ve heard that sunroof models have significantly less head space than the slicktop cars, but I wonder if they changed things for 1998+
@@slushboxermy Celsior had no sunroof, I can conclude that the roof is the same as a sunroof model.
I’m planning on buying one but he says the car dies after 2 days of no driving you think it’s just the battery that needs replacing
Probably has a parasitic draw somewhere in the electrical system
Clean that throttle body
I really need to 😂
Nothing like the raw years of the EJ25.. 2004-2005... I didn't choose the manual because it's my daily and just converted a Subaru Baja sportshift column for those days I want to be an a$$hole..
I grabbed a 90’ Ls400 for $10k with under 90k miles, anyone that reads this lmk if you think that’s a deal or if I got ripped off (yes I understand they are old. But I bought it in April so I’ve owned for 4 months and it’s given 0 issues)
Great car! You paid a fair price because it is rare to find these cars in great condition. Most that I have seen have been lowered and stupid wheels and all kinds of mods,to each there own but to keep somthing original at this point actually stands out to me. Enjoy this car I am jealous!
If the paint is good and it has good maintenance history absolutely a great deal! Make sure the timing belt has been done
You did good I just bought a 98 clean as hell needs a good tune up and tires it’s 80% out a 100
Literally just picked one up a couple day’s ago for an unbelievable deal 😅 .. 247,xxx absolutely zero rust not even at the quarter or windshield like usually , every feature works like new ice cube ac - banging system heated seats chrome factory’s it feels like a new car with 27k 😂 .. rides like a luxury tank been chasing one of these since like 2018 & was expecting to pay at least $4-6k ( yk the market ) been saving & scraping my ass off for one of these I’m still pinching myself still can’t believe i own & am behind the wheel of one of these cars all for a thousand bucks … haven’t made a video , post or anything still can’t believe this haha Hopefully this is my last car for a while I’ve had double digit cars I need something that’ll last never had any thing Toyota let alone Lexus hopefully this thing doesn’t take a shit on me 🙏🙏
Beautiful example you’ve got there. I bought my 2000 black on black UCF20 for $5300 with 93k miles on it back in 2021. One of the best cars EVER made. Welcome to the club. Subbed
Thanks! Mine isn’t the cleanest example out there with its faded paint and it’s quirks but I think I got a good deal at $3,000 just because of the mileage and how clean the chassis is
that 1uz motor will last forever. I had the ls430 3uz, great cars.
It hasn’t skipped a beat even with the triple digit temperatures we’ve been getting here. Definitely the most worry free and overbuilt vehicle I have ever owned.
there million mile motors........ls 400 million mile motor...google it...
arguably one of the best bang for buck vehicles. enjoy!
Very cool. I'm picking up a 99 Celsior this week with 59k miles. Good luck with your project.
Thanks, you too!
I had a 91 Celsior with 65k miles, can’t wait to get another.
Yeah,,looks like the century to me, nice job..beautiful car.
Something about an old Toyota/Lexus. Timeless!!!
