Forbidden Sounds on the DeepMind 12
All the patches in this video (plus some more) are available here:
jakubdomine.gumroad.com/l/forbidden_patches
This video showcases a relatively obscure technique that enables additive synthesis on the Behringer DeepMind 12!
Some notes for those trying this at home that I didn't cover in the video:
-Different Polyphony modes (Unison-2, Mono-6, etc.) will sound good at different depths in the Uni Voice to VCF Filter mapping. On my synth, these numbers are usually multiples of 15, as 15 depth maps out to roughly an octave for whatever reason. Given the instability of the filters, this value might be slightly different on a different DM12. I only have mine so I couldn't test it. Just slowly scroll through different values until you find one that sounds less dissonant than those around it.
-Similarly, my VCF patches are closest to A440 with the VCF Cutoff set to 258.9Hz. This value could also be slightly different on a different DM12, couldn't test that either. Someone setting this up for the first time should run their synth through a tuner to properly set the VCF Cutoff value.
-As a side note, the MoodFilter effect can also help attenuate harsh high frequencies, but has the drawback of not operating per-note like the Uni Voice to (-) VCA active mapping does.

He also shows that you can use unipolar LFOs to create a patch that uses the DCOs and the VCFs as soundsources on alternating voices, which is pretty insane.

DeepMind 12 - Everything In Its Right Place (no talking)
Переглядів 2,3 тис.10 місяців тому
Thank you so much for the positive response to my last DeepMind 12 video! I had some comments on that video point out that the patch demo at the end was a little rushed, so I decided to record a short video focused just on showcasing the patch. Of course, all credit for the composition of Everything In Its Right Place goes to Radiohead. Please consider subscribing if you enjoy the video! Link t...
Radiohead on the DeepMind 12

The synth pad on Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place" is a famously wide and immersive sound. Many believe it consists of 2 separate Prophet 5 recordings playing simultaneously in the L and R channels. In this video, I show how the Behringer DeepMind 12 can leverage its Uni Voice mod source to create a patch that achieves the same stereo effect in real time, without the need to record mu...

After 3 years of owning my Behringer DeepMind 12, I decided to dump everything I've learned about this synth into one video. If you're in the market for your first analog polyphonic synthesizer, or you just want one with great value, the DM12 is a fantastic option. Please consider subscribing if you enjoy the video! beautiful 😍
Super ! 👋
Very nice! I felt it!
that is cool...
Thanks for the video. I pulled my DM12 out once again and seeing just what I can create.
10:50 did you say layering pipes? 🧐
this is just insane! I feel like you just opened a portal
I’ll come back to this when I’m sober.
Brooo!! Please do more videos about the deepmind 12!
I love the Deepmind 12. It is so infinite when it comes to the way it sounds and what it can do. This is a synth that will forever stay in my collection. Great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
That was impressive
I love you man. You have taught me so much!
damn never heard of anyone producing in Indiana
omg.
Novation ultranova x ever
I was waiting for the forbidden slap bass
If anyo e has the high pitched whine issue on their DM12, Yuki the Synth Dragon youtube has a fix that works!
10:12 ice cream man!!
As a newbie here, "I'll just start here" isn't enough. How do I find a slot? How can I follow this without burning stuff?
That’s superb work, well done.
How is this new... All subtractive synths don't have a sine and this is always done to get a sine.
I'm absolutely in awe of how such an iconic sound can be replicated on a synth that's a quarter the price of a Prophet-5. This is absolutely magnificent. That intro was so spot on I got chills! I've been browsing synths to look at purchasing for a while, and for a bit I was thinking about the Roland JD-Xi, but after seeing this, and some of your other videos regarding what's possible to do with this synth, this was that final push I needed. I'm gonna do a deep dive now on the DeepMind and see what else is possible with it, because alongside this and the incredibly beautiful ambient soundscapes it can make, I'm excited to see what else it can do, especially once I can get my hands on one of these! The possibilities!!! Man, the way you set this up, the sound, the mod wheel slowly intensifying loud and to quiet again, this video and synth truly has, Everything In Its Right Place. Subscribed!
Sweet !
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing
Nice tones, good synth for the Price tag.
I have the DM12 and DM6....I like them but I find the somewhat bizzarre effects of the various settings unpredictable... Also they don't work well with MIDI control from other synths ...... also the DM12 "WORK" station lacking octave setting is a major bummer...
Is there a way to spread the sound using Unison 2 and paning one layer to the left and other to the right? I now it is possible to do pan spread with individual notes but I'm willing to now if there's a trick to this other thing
@@agustinperez8217 yes if you check out my Radiohead video I explain how to do this in depth. The gist is mapping Uni Voice -> VCA Pan while you’re in Unison 2 mode.
They've got a LOT of under-rated gear. The vamp pro rackmount guitar amp modeller was incredible. Got mine for $75 used.
Lay off the soy for a while
What "forbidden sounds" sounds like plain old fm synthesis to me👎
Nailed it!!
Great video, got one of these arriving on Saturday!
You should lead with a rendition of the song … at its correct speed (ie not sounding like you’re double-parked) … or not 🙂
I love my Deepmind 12 Desktop from 2019 and just bought a Deepmind 6. Great video!
Dieser Synthesizer lebt nur von seinen Effekten und den Arpreggio. 😢😢😢 Der Grundsound ist dünn😢😢😢
guys can i just say that reading positive comments about the DM just reaffirms my decision. it’s such a beautiful machine
The Deepmind 12 and the B2600, you will never need other synths (except maybe two of each) 😀
You made that simple patch last nearly 20 mins. That ought to be record.
My question is if I save this patch I presume I need to calibrate the VCF before I can use it?
Tutorial please! Great work
fantastic!
hey behringer can you guys update the os so the filter tracking is saved ?
I think musicians should start taking this synth more seriously as a part of their groups set up, just like they do with their Moogs, Korgs, Rolands and Yamaha's. I've had mine a year, and I've barely scratched it's surface of what it's capable of producing!.
Guitar dream sounds more like an electric harp or an Asian Kyoto. Very bright stringy sounding.
The Juno-106 had DCO´s not VCO´s you might mixing it up with the Juno-60 or Juno-6??
First analog synthesizer? i dont get that just because its easy to program doesnt mean its a beginner synth. Then the Yamaha EX-5 must be for professionals only 🤣🤣🤣
this synth is destined to become a classic and collectible, the panel layout and mod matrix design are really well thought out, not too many buttons or too crowded, very logical
Thanks for the video! What a great use of DeepMind's extra features.
I love your enthusiasm! Knowing this adds value to the product and this is the instrument which I thought Behringer should have created and they did and of course went crazy on everything else to take advantage of the retro, vintage blah blah marketing with their economy of scale production model. Quality control is still on everyone’s “Mind” haha but if you luck out with a Behringer product, you really do.
With that perfect pronunciation of English you shouldn't live in India but in the US, bro
