Blue Monday - How do Everton get out of this mess?
This week's show kicks off with Rodger's immediate post-match thoughts from Bournemouth. He then discusses that match and the feeling in the stands with Les and Dave, there's a look at some out-there quotes from previous managers, and we ask the big question - how do Everton get out of this mess?

Mailbag - Should Z-Cars be dropped at the new ground?
That’s the understatement of the year Matt. The wheel is coming off a bit? There are no wheels, the wheels fell off when he walked through the door. It’s abhorrent
Where have you been for the last year ?
I would laugh if during his presser someone from the club informs him..sorry sean you've been sacked...
I think that Dyche already knows that he won't be there after the summer. So, if the results pick up then he gets up limping over the line. But, after the lift of 3 draws we were all expecting to lose, to then lose at home to Forest and that performance at Bournemouth, then I think its in everyone's best interest to get someone else in. If they have a first choice that isn't available till summer, then could we convince Moyes to take over for the rest of the season ?
To be fair he was right about lindstorm , Jimmy Bidston and mçneil , are a massive miss from the set pieces. What Brora was playing at god only knows. Want to give him a chance , but he is not able to take the opportunity. I'm a firm believer that no done just say get rid and don't put a name in the hat , mine is max allegri. Defensive coach I admit but might be able to add some sparkle. Would love to know what you think , had a bit of a break down at juventus but who cares it might be worth it
He's a cowardly intimidating bully. There's far too much apathy in general as it is. Tip tiptoeing into oblivion.
Sign Potter up now, and Everton might have a chance of staying in the Premier league. COYB 💙 💙 💙
Potter wouldn’t accept it mate
Just GO And take Doucoure, Young and Gueye with you. DYCHE OUT
….,by sacking the dinosaur manager …
well, the news is out that TFG are considering dyche's position. and it's been coming since pre-season honestly. because that's when it goes back to--not only did we have a rough pre-season, dyche's weird attitude with the fans goes back to that point too. from the very beginning this season he's had his back up, been on the offensive with the fans and the defensive with the media. i honestly do not know what happened to him this pre-season that put his nose so out of joint. but the vibe has been bad since then, and i suppose that's spread to the players honestly. maybe it's because he's out of contract and isn't getting a new one and he's offended by that? it was always going to be a difficult situation with so many of the staff and players out of contract, i.e. they might not buy into the club's plight because they're out regardless. truth be told, i never really ever came close to feeling any affection for dyche. singing the national anthem didn't help his cause with me. but i was 100% willing to accept that i don't need to feel affection towards an everton manager, as long as the manager is doing the job. and this season vs last season he's just not doing as well--and that's plain to see, it can't be disputed. considering he had that solid derby victory it's honestly amazing he has as little goodwill as he does... it really reveals how unpleasant dyche has been this season... from the weird comments in interviews to the utter refusal to accept any blame whatsoever. the blame acceptance thing is so wacky too. how can you be so fragile as to not concede that, in the face of poor results, there might be soemthing you, as manager, could do to improve things? i understand it, we all might not want to make that concession... i'm the same way. we all have truths we might not want to face up to. however... a football manager, in that job, to not be ready to accept that? that's really interesting to me. especially when up the road pep is falling over himself to take the blame. having said that, i don't think pep's approach where he takes all the blame is sensible either... i think in cases like this the truth is probably the best place to start, i.e. we're all in it together as a club and we can all improve, players and coaching staff alike. also, i just don't agree with roger that our players are that bad. we've got two top centre backs in branthwaite and tarkowski. the central pairing of gana and mangala is sound, even as old as gana is. ndiaye is good, we could play him as a #10. i think our only problems are at centre forward and left back. when seamus was on and was overlapping lindstrom for a brief while lindstrom suddenly looked like a decent player. for me, the tactics don't allow us to evaluate the quality of the players. i'm not a dcl fan, but look at how many goals ancelotti got out of him. and it's not just that, it's the confidence-sapping that goes on--jack harrison is a perfect example, i'm not saying he's a great player, but under other coaches, CONSISTENTLY, gets double figure goal involvements. of course players under-perform if every week they hear the manager tell the press he's working wonders because the players he has are talentless. lo and behold, players make terrible decisions and are timid in crucial moments. anyway... i could go on and on, but the most important thing now is that TFG get the appointment right.
Instead of comparing and contrasting previous seasons, managers and players, can I point to the one obvious glaring comparison we all need to use. BURNLEY the season they last went down. To remind some of the timing, he was sacked 8 games from the end of the season in mid April, they still went down as 8 games isn't enough time to turn around. they carried on to the same point tally they were headed for. Just below 1point per game as we have now. He needs to go now whilst we still have time. We are not in a yo-yo form situation as some seem to think, apart from Wolves being in total disarray we are consistently crap but with a top notch keeper. He's paid big money to come up with solutions to big problems, but he's bereft of ideas. His post match comments would be comical if they weren't so delusional. This week was along the lines of " if my mum had been born with a nob she'd be my dad".
Just get rid now to give us a chance of staying up
They need to move fast. West Ham have just sacked their manager
From a Bournemouth supporter who was at the game I have got to say you have had some good results of late i understand you are a big club and expect a lot more so do you gamble on a new manager or stick with what you have i wish you well
I think the fans have got to the point of no return now and whatever he does except leave that's not gonna change.
Rodger trying to use stats without understanding them is hilarious, he’s like my grandad with a computer. 😂 Everyone talks about our lack of attacking numbers but how many of our attackers would start for Ipswich and Leicester? The answer is 1 Everton player out of 4 or 5 attacking positions and that’s Ndiaye only, the rest would all wouldn’t play. We’re basically Southampton but with a better GK and Branthwaite
Bored of it all now. I’ve swerved even trying to watch the away games, I go and watch my local instead. Fair play to the people who go up and down the country to watch those losers, they’re made of sterner stuff than I am. I can’t be arsed listening to other fans and more specifically one of those loser players, saying that the fans need to get behind the players as well. When our blurt of a manager is saying we’re on a good run on paper “if you add wins into it”, they can all get to fuck to be honest.
I’d ask Lyon how much they want for Mikautadze and fund it by selling Beto, then we’ll have a player who doesn’t need an open goal to score. Also a cheap young option on the right like Esse at Millwall who’s creative and confident on the ball. Lastly a manager who isn’t despised by our fans and who’s message isn’t as stale as blue cheese
Haha! It's a yes from me to all that. Things started going south when we stopped looking to the Championship for players - defo need to get back to doing that more effectivley.
@@TheBlueRoomEFC mate it’s staggering when you watch him play the difference in levels from Esse to Harrison and he plays for a team in the bottom half of the championship. Those 2 players plus Beto’s sale would cost us around 15-20 million net and they’d make a difference
FFS… Esse has just been approached by Palace in the past few minutes as their Olise replacement and now I’ve given up any hope we could get him because of PALACE 😞
@@theblues8840was just going to reply with Palace are in for him. That’s that then. It was the same with Eze and Olise. All players we could and should be going for first time around.
@@TheBlueRoomEFC honestly it’s a blow but it’s really not that hard to improve on Harrison IF you’ve got cash. I’ve seen us linked with Yunus Akgun from Galatasaray who was on loan at Leicester last year and he’d be a significant improvement on Harrison, I’m guessing he’d be around 15m so not unattainable.
Dyche simply can't organise or motivate the players
Yeah, feels like it's gone past the point of no return now
Hopefully TFG are about to make the decision to sack Dyche, and it seems sensible to bring in Potter and Ashworth, even if Ashworth sits in a Director of Football Operations post until Thelwells contract runs out and is given the power to either keep Thelwell or hire someone else. This should enable us to sort our youth teams set up and flow into the first team, with the working relationship between Ashworth and Potter established. It needs to happen ASAP, ready for the expiry of contracts of players and to start the rebuild, and will ensure all aspects of the club are pulling together.
Last home game branthwaite ran with the ball up to the gwladys street penalty box, looking around for a pass of course no one within 15 yards of him. I don't understand why we spread out in a big circle, maybe to stretch the opponents, the problem is when we do this we've no pass on.
It’s basic stuff you teach kids - don’t all run away from the ball. Some move, some show for the pass. Beyond me how a group of professionals are so bad
That’s because 90% of the players aren’t good enough on the ball at this level. If they show for it then they get caught out and lose the ball in dangerous positions. If we want to stop this happening we need to buy more players like Ndiaye and Mangala who have the ability to keep the ball under pressure
We play for nil and a lucky corner, looking for a goal would never do! Gospel of Gaffer, Whoney and Stoney page #1 Even though the entire league now block our CB's at corners.
Dyche is actually admitting he can’t do anything different in his post match comments.
His latest comments sounded a lot like Gary O’Neill’s “please sack me” comments after we walloped Wolves
Don't get the Moyes/DoF shouts. We've already been down the route of having a DoF who got the job on the basis that he 'could spot a player'. There's a lot more to the job than that.
I reckon Moyes could oversee all aspects of the club like he pretty much did when he was manager. Genuinely think it'd be a perfect role for him.
Great content, have to agree with your viwe
Why did Branthwaite duck down before the ball went in
Odd for a defender who usually throws anything he can in the way of the ball
Carsley for me we aint had wb since baines and Coleman in his day
I reckon we should be seriously looking at CArsley too
Totally see what Matt is thinking. Also found myself at times seeing it from the view of fear of what a new manager might bring and is able to bring with this set of players. It’s now got to the point though where the lack of goals means we unequivocally will be relegated unless something changes. Dyche has said himself that the idea of an attacking coach is laughable because of Garry Birtles etc (a staggering comment) So what’s going to change? His approach isn’t, he keeps saying we can’t do anything significant with incomings, so what’s left? His position is all that’s left
His comments are becoming increasingly deranged. The club need to act as it's not going to get any better
You can have big Ange, youll love the change
Got to go now!! Each game that passes will make it harder for the next manager
You have to weigh up how much it would cost to sack him with how much it would cost with relegation
It takes time for a manager to fully impart his playing style onto a team, we are now seeing FULL DYCHE. @#$% him off! I don't care how loved he is by Doucoure, McNeil, Young etc.
Dyche must be sacked ASP
dyche out. just far too grim lately. dyche has them playing as though they're the least talented team in the league, and that just isn't the case. mangala is a very talented central midfielder, you can see that. we'll struggle to hold onto ndiaye i imagine. I do think we have issues at centre forward and full back, but you know, other than that, I reckon our players are decent. they don't need to play hoof ball. they just don't need to setup all out defence against every opponent.. it's honestly crazy. it's extremely unsettling to me to think of us sacking a manager and the friedkins getting the appointment wrong, which they have done a couple of times looking at roma, so... yeah... a very grim time at the moment for us. i'm not sure what a safe pair of hands would look like to see out the season. i'm so unimaginative that all i can think of is moyes hahahaha. you hope that they have a list much bigger than mine and are ready to protect their investment with a sound appointment. enjoyed listening along as always. well in lads.
Nice one, mate. I really hope they've been working on something before they bought the club else it feels like we're cooked. This team isn't good, but it's not as bad as its playing - no set of pro footballers should have attacking stats like this team
Lowest goals Lowest shots on target Lowest XG 3 wins in 19 What else does Dyche need to do to get the sack?
Even slapping a player won't get him booted
Player’s aren’t up to Premier League standard unfortunately! He has tried but failed like everyone else 🤷♂️ Who in there right mind would take this squad on 🤦♂️ Moyes won’t take on relegation battle!!!
Spot on mate, someone might come in a get a temporary new manager bounce but eventually they’ll be found out and sacked once the players return back to their actual level. For years we’ve been blaming managers instead of players, if only our fans were smart enough to realise Silva wasn’t the problem. The problem was that we sold Gueye on him and then replaced him with Gbamin (basically we didn’t replace him). Also not replacing Zouma meant we had no pace at the back to sweep up. Recruitment has been and still is more of an issue than whoever our manager is.
Precisely, the manager has no answers because he has such a limited squad. The players who kept us up Richarlison, Iwobi, Tarkowski ( still here but gone as a player), Coleman, Godfrey, who was better than both our fullbacks. I thought Dyche might be able to pull us through, but this team has no heart and no guts for fight. Change the Manager it wont make any difference. We are going down.
@@JG-us9lu Godfrey was absolutely toilet mate, there’s a reason he’s been binned by Atalanta already after a few appearances for them. They recognise how bad he is and I hope he plays every game for Ipswich
@theblues8840 wasn't my point he was still better than what we have. BTW we see when he is at Ipswich. You need some lessons in comprehension.like I said sack the Manager that you hate, and then you can hate the next one.
@@JG-us9lu oh the irony… you’re telling me I need comprehension lessons while you say “the manager you hate” despite me not saying that… You acted like we missed Godfrey, we don’t he’s pants just like Holgate I’m glad they’ll never wear our kit again.
TFG.....this one dimensional dinosaur is taking my beloved club down. ACT NOW DYCHE OUT
Can’t blame TFG they only got the keys at Christmas 😮
I'm all for sacking this fraud but these out of contract players need to go too .. Young 40 Coleman 36 gana 35 ..keane 32 doucoure 33 begavic 38 ..age next season..add to Lindstrom plus Harrison are pointless ..don't go giving the likes of Myko new contracts either he's not good enough DCL is crap .. Doesn't matter what league we are in they need replacing especially the likes of DCL doucoure and Keane that's over 300 a week on wages gone ..I don't care what players come in the above are either too old slow declining won't improve or just bang average
Take out the wolves result that's 2 goals scored in 9 games. It's not good enough has to go now b4 it's too late. I've never seen a poorer side than this. Even the bad sides in the past where scoring goals. pathetic. Moyes in till the end of the season cos no one else would come anywhere near this squad
Moyes wouldn’t either, he’s recently said he’s not interested in relegation battles
You cant win playing long ball football
Listen mate to much talking if you can't see how crap he and thellwell are a and half that team you don't now your football
Too much talking on a post match video? Jeez I’ve heard it all now 🤦♂️🤣
I called for Dyche to be sacked numerous times on this pod 😂
@@robvera5742 there was too much talking for him to hear you say it 🤦♂️😂
I sacked the match off yesterday to go and watch my local team. We were 4-0 down at half time, it was absolutely Baltic down at the ground and it finished 5-0. It was still preferable to watching Everton.
If you won’t say it I will. Dyche out now. We need to start protesting now to get this waster out and his useless staff. Why aren’t we doing something, we are so apathetic walking into relegation. We need people like you to start demanding he is sacked. 5 million year, ffs get rid.
Going down I'm sorry but this will happen this year wow we are so poor
Everton did nothing in the game. Big problems there.
Result aside, I’m HUGELY enjoying the Blue Room variety of content. Doing a great job. Really interesting and varied angles. 💙
Ah, thanks mate. Really appreciate good vibes. Thanks for the support 👍
I just don't know how were going to do it this year, collectively manager and players are not premier league standard.
It really shouldn't have been like that after last season (even if everyone overperformed) - that was an awful weekend for us
Surely TFG watched our games in the 3 months it took for their deal to go through...Walkers last 19 games in charge we got 15 points Dyche's last 19 games we've got 17 points...
He's sailed so close to Mike Walker territory so many times. His reliance on drawing 0-0 will see us down
Even if he's sacked now. It's at least 3 months too late.
They scored with ease, our defending for the goal was crap, mickey yo yo didn’t pick him u, we are garbage
just sack him for all our sakes
We've got half a season left now's the time to sack him ...we won't win another game while he's here most probably never scored again while he's here
Embarrassing performance although I actually expected worse tbh, you know it’s bad when Jarrad is ducking out of the way of a shot on goal. Just terrifying all around we desperately need massive changes, 1 or 2 isn’t enough
Absolutely agreed blues we need severe investment and as much as I would like us to keep Dyche till the summer. I’m not his biggest fan but I think its safer to keep, till summer but now we are heading to a position where his job might just be untenable because its quickly turning toxic and we’ve been diabolical Where do you stand on this? Would you twist now and get someone else in?
@@jorgeandrade783 I’m not sure it is safer to keep him tbh mate it’s already ran it’s course. Whether we could get someone better is the question, people think it can’t get worse but it definitely can. We could get a new manager and then start conceding 3-4 every game and not picking up draws either
@@theblues8840Yeah agreed. It’s a gamble either way I do agree. Would you go with the David Moyes route, short term contract with a possibility of extension kind of route, or would you go balls to the wall with a more obscure riskier manager? Personally for this season I wouldn’t mind a short term fix, David Moyes route just to bring some positivity back and I actually think he would take the job in a heartbeat, and then reassess in the summer, maybe try to get a Thomas Frank if possible in June. But curious to get your thoughts
@@jorgeandrade783 Moyes has said recently he doesn’t want a relegation battle so I’m not sure he would, I also think he’d split the fanbase day 1 tbh. It’s hard to give a name mid season mid relegation battle because I don’t know who’d even take the job
@@theblues8840that's very true mate.. But would his love for Everton bring him back?.. I'd take him
