The subtext of this scene is crazy, whether or not it was intended when they scripted and cast this episode. Bruce being confronted by what could be the traditional gung fu or martial arts community, telling him that, as a Chinese, he can’t just challenge authority and tradition; him calling them useless and archaic, asking to be left alone to live his life as an American. Or he could be talking to the other Asian actors who look and sound like typical TV/movie “Orientals” from the ‘60s, while he is effectively and naturally playing himself-dapper, contemporary, forceful, with his distinct blend of East and West. I don’t know if the contrast was intentional or if Bruce simply refused to play a bowing, pigtailed, “chop chop” stereotype, but it makes him stand out like a sore thumb in a good way, and based on this and the Longstreet episodes, I’ve no doubt he would’ve changed the face of Asians in Hollywood had he stayed in America.

Bruce's character refused to compromise with the "old guard" I e., Tong. He basically could've been making a point about JKD. He said their ways were archaic. Even though Lee uses no martial arts, what's interesting is his commanding & dynamic presence which is part of being a good actor.

Never heard of this movie „here comes the brides“ before , since I Wasa huge Bruce lee fan and thought to knew every bit of his appearances , but not of this . It’s great to discover this little gems of Film pits , I knew of „Longstreet „ and „Marlowe“ but this was new for me .
