Hey. Great tutorial. I've been trying to get this work on project all day long. All I am getting is a green box that reads text. If I send you a link to my Dropbox with the c3p file would you mind taking a look at it and letting me know what I am doing wrong? Please 🙏
Great video. Now how do I program an event trigger? Seriously need help with this and tutorial s are hard to find 😊😊
great tutorials, thank you! the one concept I dont understand is why do you put the coordinate of the text box where they are on the Object Sheet and not the actual level? thank you again
Great Tutorial! Thanks
Thanks 🙏
Puppet System was CLUTCH. I was doing this iin a less efficient way
Thank you!
This was very helpful and straight forward, thank you for making this.
Thank you very much, your tutorial helped me a lot, you speak very well and explain it very well. Say hi to Brasil 🇧🇷👋

Instructions unclear i burned my house down
Did you try turning your house off and back on again?
why you separate animation and player itself?
Easier to calculate hits with a square than a constantly changing hit box. Industry standard. 3d game tend to use spheres. Also, if you use the animation's collision box there is a chance for bugs and weird jostling when moving

Great tutorial, thank you so mutch! :) +1 sub

I'm so glad it was helpful! More videos are in the works :)
@deltastarstudios2809 I'm working on a pretty cool game and have the start of the story for it since I'm such a big visual learner. Construct was the only one I could understand! I don't really have anyone to talk to my game about, so if it's okay, could I explain the story of my game?- And why I wish to one day Finnish it! ^^
@@stormfiretheog9183 I'd love to hear what you have planned!
@deltastarstudios2809 Sure! The game is mostly going to be about animals who can talk, so instead of humans being the dominant creatures, it's animals! ^^ Beginning of the game: Many animals in this world live a simple life in their small village. Most if not all.. have never ventured far... probably never will... animals say... whoever leaves this village.... never comes back... some have ventured out of the village too the longest of bridge... though they never came back after that.... and even if those who left would have come back..... they would never be the same. Folks say that whoever crosses the bridge gets teliported, too, a new world, or some say that the fellow animal just gets killed and gets replaced by a clone of itself. There are a lot of theories, but no one ever ventured and came back. Well.. some did but didn't recall anything or never remembered what happened after crossing the bridge... they all say it was blank. The once who never made it..... no one really knows what happened to them. They were declared dead, though. As most never came back for years... That's mostly what I have for the beginning! The character named Ray we play ends up venturing to that bridge, and the bridge is never ending, so you can keep walking forward, but once the person playing the game finally tries to turn back. So they start walking back to the village. The game stops itself, and you see the bridge breaking under you as you fall under the dark pit. I'm not sure how I'll make that work, but that's mostly what's gonna happen in the game! There will be more happening, but I don't really wanna spoil it! ^^
@@stormfiretheog9183 that sounds like a fun game with a interesting story! I look forward to playing it one day!
This helps a lot!! But i have a problme. I have a character who is sleeping and then wakes up by theyre mother yelling too wake them up. Idk how too do that- and another think i have drawings i want too put on the dialogue too make the character more expresive.
To add drawings to the dialogue system you would add another parameter to the dialogue system and a few more actions. Or you can spawn and destroy the sprite before and after calling the dialogue function. Have tou checked out our cutcene tutorial? It doesn't show adding to the dialogue, but goes more in depth on how to put a cutscene together :)
@deltastarstudios2809 I'll definitely check it out! The problem is. I'm a big visual learner, so stuff said to me or written to me makes it really difficult to do. I have literally only been following your tutorials because they're so well visually done! I once tried a difrent person's way for when they were showing how too add little beep noises for the text and I berally understood it and had trouble following becuse they would cut sceenes off making me confused since I learn visually so much. I would love if you cept on making tutorials yours are the only ones I can actually understand, and I love them!
@@stormfiretheog9183 thank you for the nice compliment! We have more tutorials in the works, we've just been super busy with life atm :) More on the way though!
@deltastarstudios2809 I can't wait to see more of your tutorials! They're amazing!! ^^ I hope you can also make inventory tutorials. A simple one like how undertale one looks. No pressure, though! You don't have to if you don't want to!! Take as much time as you need!

Thank you sir!
i give up your tutorial is so hard i cant click the button
Hi System, Sorry to hear this! Is your event sheet paired with your layout? Click the layout then look at the properties in the top left corner of the screen (pause at 1:08 and take a look). You should see a spot that says Event sheet with a drop down box. The code on an eventsheet won't run until you've paired it to the layout it is supposed to run on :) Let me know if that solves your problem ;)
amazing tutorials! Thanks so much for your help
I know this video was a while ago, but i copied this exactly for my own project but no text box or dialogue showed up when i pushed my chosen key
Hi Strike, Could be caused by many things. Most common is forgetting to include the event sheet on your main event sheet.
Great video! Everything works as intended. However when I add new functions to the dialogue like you do at the very end, the system breaks a bit. Everything works fine with as many functions as I need at first until I get to the very end of them. It seems like the destroyDialogue isn't getting called for some reason in that scenario. Instead the final dialogue gets repeated over and over. It's called fine with just a single function.
Hi Zach, There should only be one function that is used to create dialogue. Its parameter is used to display different text :) The destroy dialogue should be called at the end of your cutscene after the final wait for signal. It's interesting the final dialogue is repeated. Feel free to email me your project file and I can take a look :)
@deltastarstudios2809 I'm having that same problem! Have no idea what to do because I want the object to be interacteble as much as needed. But it just won't stop repeating the same dioluge at the end for some reason...
Thank you very much for the tutorial! It was exactly what I needed!
I have a video request that I hope you can help me with. I searched on UA-cam and the Construct forums, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I have been developing my first platform game for a while now and ran into a problem when my friends played the test the first stage. The game is an automatic runner that basically plays like' Super Mario Run.' I want to keep the playable character off to the left side of the screen when running and have the camera stay towards the right of the screen, so that the player has maximum visibility of stage to make decisions as they are coming up. Do you know if there is a way to pull this off in Construct 3? And what code would I need to do it?
Hi Mike, Totally doable! Make a camera sprite (like at 4:30) with pin and scroll to. Disable scroll to on the player. Set the position of the camera to something like (player.x+250, player.y). Pin the camera to the player. It will stay at the fixed distance. If you uncheck 'pin to y,' then the camera won't move during jumps :)
@@deltastarstudios2809 Thank you very much 👍
Thank you for your work! It's amazing! I have a request for the following video if you pleased. Can Construct allow build clicker games? Earn coins and could be spent on various improvements? (faster earnings at 1 click, etc.) How it build? I'd be interested in seeing a video like that Thank you
It sure can! You would use the mouse object to handle clicking, variables to store data (coins, rates, amounts, speeds, etc.. ), the system action "every x seconds" and the system action "add to global variable" to handle automatic addition, sprites as the things you would click (use their animation frames to handle upgraded versions), and text objects to display numbers :)
Thank you for the great video! I've noticed in my play testing that when I run into my "scene trigger" if I am holding down the right arrow key the screen shake will never stop and basically freezes the game. Is there a way to avoid this? Otherwise the camera moving to the desired spot does work fine. (Also, I want to mention I have the camera scrolling behind him back to beginning of the stage and it's the camera shake that seems to stop the camera from moving. You can literally see the camera pulling to the left and getting pulled back to the trigger spot.)
Sounds like it gets triggered over and over again? Check in your trigger event. Maybe a "trigger once while true", or adding the action "destroy scene trigger" would help? Or perhaps it's the action that shakes the camera? Check it's time and magnitude are not to high.
@@deltastarstudios2809 Destroying the scene trigger did the trick. Thanks 👍
@deltastarstudios2809 hi! Sorry if I'm being annoying bit I did exactly what you said for the when player collides with the cutsceeneTrigger the cutsceene starts and I tried it out but nothing happened I did just how you showed I did Player On collision with sceeneTrigger Player set 8Direction Disabled Systum wait 0.1 seconds Player set animation to "frontidle" (play from beginning) Camera Set position to Player (image point 0) Camera Set ScrollTo with magnitude 20 for 1.5 seconds (Reducing magnitude) Systum wait 1.5 seconds Camera Move To: Move (417,407) (Direct) but for some reson the cutsceene won't start- any ideas on why?
Thank for video! It's not much Contstruct 3 tutors. I belive C3 is powerful engine and have huge potential for beginner devs. But official faq is boring and don't cover all opportunities
thank you very much👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
how come the dialogue system doesn't work with the camera? i can't figure out how to fix it.
Ensure you are creating these elements on A HUD layer, and the parallax is set to 0x0 :) See 3:12
@@deltastarstudios2809 would it be the same if it was for an RPG as well? Or do I need to do some different coding?
@@dragonhany1 same technique regardless if it's top-down, platformer or 3d :)
@@deltastarstudios2809 ok, that's good to know. Thank you ^\\\\^
@@deltastarstudios2809 One, more question. I have multiple things I want dialogue for and I changed the box ID for them so they can all run separately. but now only one works. and when I take the camera movement off, then they all work fine. is there a way to fix that?
Maybe a silly question, but will this still work if your game is on something like Steam and not running in the browser ? Thanks !
I don't see why not :)
