Indian Peaks Wilderness, CO // Father + Son Backpacking Trip
A very special overnight backpacking trip in the Front Range's premier wilderness area, the Indian Peaks. My dad and I started at the Monarch Lake trailhead, spent the night at Crater Lake, and took a side trip to Pawnee Lake. It was an absolute blast to hike and take pictures and video in this beautiful place!

A Saint among Saints - Hiking San Luis Peak, CO

I'm back to finish off the 14ers in Colorado's San Juan Mountains with one of the easiest (and, honestly, least interesting) peaks. It was still a great and relatively easy day in the mountains! #colorado #14ers
The Steepest Climb I've Ever Done - Crestone Needle (CO 14ers)
Переглядів 1,7 тис.День тому
I venture to Colorado's Sangre de Cristo Range to climb one of its best 14,000-foot peaks, the Crestone Needle. With its fantastic, solid rock and airy exposure, it was a top 5 14er for me and one I will absolutely return to! #colorado #14ers #mountains
The Trail Ridge Road Skyline Traverse // Rocky Mountain National Park
Переглядів 41814 днів тому
On North America's highest continuous road, several nearby peaks form a prominent skyline for drivers and sightseers in Rocky Mountain National Park. Thus what I'm calling this traverse of several of these peaks, the "Trail Ridge Road Skyline Traverse". Great views and fun exploration in a seldom seen part of the park! I started this from the Milner Pass Trailhead, and the summits I climbed (in...
Lower 48's Hardest Highpoint - Glacier & Snow Free Route on Gannett Peak
Переглядів 75721 день тому
There is no question that Gannett Peak, Wyoming's highpoint, was the hardest mountain I've ever climbed. I did this as a three-day backpacking trip from the Green River Lakes trailhead, itself nestled in the Yosemite Valley of Wyoming. I ascended Gannett via the nonstandard Southwest Couloir route, which had no required snow or glacier travel, so I could leave the crampons and ice axe at home. ...
San Juan Gentle Giants - Redcloud & Sunshine Peaks (CO 14ers)
Переглядів 25128 днів тому
A relatively chill pair of 14ers was in order after a week of hard San Juan summits. I took the standard route over to Sunshine, then dropped into the basin northwest of Sunshine for a boulder hop / bushwhack back to the main trail (which I don't recommend). Any peak in the SJ's is a blast!

The bad weather before dawn almost turned me back, but I pressed on... and later bad weather didn't give me a choice! But that's part of the fun of the mountains and I couldn't be happier about how the hike and the video turned out. #colorado #14ers
Colorado's Middle-Earth -- Solo Backpacking the Most Isolated Fourteeners
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Місяць тому
The beauty and 14er peak bagging opportunity of the Chicago Basin area in Colorado's San Juan mountains was calling my name this summer, and it delivered! I climbed all four named 14ers in this trip, in order: Windom Peak, Sunlight Peak, Mt. Eolus, and North Eolus. I did it over three days starting from the Purgatory trailhead with two nights camping in the Weminuche Wilderness. 0:00 - 8:10 Day...
A Truly Great Traverse - El Diente to Mt. Wilson (Colorado 14ers)
Переглядів 303Місяць тому
Two Colorado Fourteeners in a row in peak San Juan mountain country. This was a blast, though I don't think I'll repeat it! I definitely needed this perfect-weather day to complete the traverse safely that ridge is not a place to be when the lightning comes. I did this on 8/16/24.

My second day in the San Juans was scrambling up 14er Wilson Peak's Southwest Ridge, with views of the range in all directions. Not a very long day by San Juans standards starting from the Rock of Ages trailhead.

Hiking to North America's Highest Lake --- Tenmile Range 13ers + Quandary Peak West Ridge, CO
Переглядів 8322 місяці тому
My first trip into the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge to bag some 13ers, plus Colorado's most popular 14er, Quandary Peak, by the non-standard West Ridge scramble. The other peaks I climbed are Father Dyer Peak, Crystal Peak, Pacific Peak, and Atlantic Peak. Plus, drinking from the highest lake in North America, Pacific Tarn, at 13,400 feet. An awesome day in the hills!

With this video I've climbed all of the16 13,000-foot peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park, and what a great way to tour all the different parts of the park. Even after this there are still corners of the park that (to me) are unexplored!
Indian Peaks Wilderness - 13er Navajo Peak via Niwot Ridge

Alpine lakes, soaring Rocky Mountain peaks, and a plane wreckage all feature in this beautiful summer outing. I ascended Navajo via the fun and scrambly Niwot Ridge, and descended the Airplane Gully to visit the 1947 plane crash that lies there. #colorado #rockymountains

Why did you only wear your helmet for the accent?
man, for a second with "Crater Lake" i thought you were in my neck of the woods! mad beautiful views, Brudda! preciate you sharing them 🤙 much love!
Same here, still good to see a dad compatible expedition out there too :D
coming from Cottonwood, this was this the South face, or a variant (Crestone Peak southface to Needle)? What are you thoughts on a 4am start from Cottonwood Lake linking to Crestone Peak, descending the NW couloir to the East ridge to pick up Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point before back tracking to The Prow for a descent to the Spanish Creek trailhead ? This has been on my list for 12 years.
This was the standard class 4 route up the Needle, just coming up to Broken Hand Pass from the west side. That route you described is definitely above my pay grade! I don't know what the route looks like between Crestone Peak and Kit Carson, I'm sure it gets into class 5 terrain though (I know the Prow is class 5 too, I suspect downclimbing that would take a long time). Sounds like a long day so certainly a 4am or even earlier start is best during monsoon season, though waiting till Sept/early Oct will give you more time/better weather.
My thoughts are that you should make another plan. It's no wonder you haven't executed your plan in 12 years; that's your instincts hard at work keeping you alive.

Beautiful video! Thank you!
Beautiful. Thank you for (1) no music and (2) no constant commentary! Part of the beauty of being outdoors is the sound of being outdoors. I’m far too terrified of heights to even consider this, so your video is as close as I’ll get!
Very nice painted mountains!
This was my CO 14er finisher this past summer! Cool to see all the bright aspens- when was this climbed?
Congrats! Last weekend in September. Yes definitely peak aspens!
Great video! When it is steep like that do you find it's harder going down compared with going up? Going down is more tedious for me.
Yeah descending is generally a little more difficult, though I also find that I'm warmed up and feel more comfortable with the scrambling on the way down
Wow... spectacular! Congratulations, and I really appreciate all your content. Thank you.
Amazing views. Great video. Thanks for sharing. sub & 👍27
My first overhung face was done on-belay above a sea cave entrance. Listening to Sea Lions inside the cave and louder crashing surf below.
Same. Worse. Easier than Longs Peak Trough?
Definitely more difficult technically. The angle of climbing is steeper and the exposure more severe. The trough has some loose rock, whereas the Needle has almost none. As far as mileage and elevation gain go though, they're comparable
Longer but on Crestone Conglomerate. Super solid, almost completely bomb proof.
Really enjoyed this
Would love to be able to do this!
Love to see this can be done solo.
I was just out there on Saturday. I discovered if you go too low on the Cracktop-Julian traverse that things get very confusing on the maze of ledges...I assume either you did the ridge proper (in which case the first bit down from Cracktop seemed rather serious) or cut down and around that first bit and then stuck to the ridge afterwards?
I stayed on the ridge proper mostly, except for one or two spots where it seemed to go class 4 / low 5, and I was able to find a kind of roundabout class 3 bypass. Maybe that's what you're thinking? Just consistently following the easiest-looking way down to the saddle seemed to work fine for me. I actually wasn't expecting any scrambling so it was a pleasant surprise
Awesome, I guess I should have done that!
VERY COOL! :)
Ata'boy nice hike! Enjoyed the vid👍
Quite the accomplishment. Beautiful area, grueling and dangerous climb. I think I've seen more UA-cam videos of people failing to make it and turning around then I've seen people summiting Gannett Peak.
John --The view on top of the 14ers is purely stunning!
Absolutely jaw dropping scenery! Congratulations on this achievement 🔥and sharing the journey! Incredible skill 🙌🏻
Good stuff my friend!
Lovely video mate!
I just wanted to chime in and say I found your videos because I’ve been researching Colorado as we are coming there to do a backpack trip in the next week or two in the Indian peaks wilderness. But I am absolutely amazed and fascinated by these climbs and I have subscribed. You should have way more subscribers. These videos are awesome. Just a girl from Michigan over here.
Thank you for the kind words! The Indian Peaks are spectacular, hope you enjoy!
Nice video! Couldn’t help to notice all of the dead standing trees. Do you know if that is from the pine beetle? Is sad to see! Congrats on your 4 14’er summits.
Thanks, yes that was the only slight eyesore on this trip. Yeah, I'm guessing it's beetle kill
Beautiful! You dodged another bullet. Congrats. For solo hike in questionable weather you look like you’re traveling light. What gear are you taking? What size pack is that Osprey?
Not much more than the standard essentials--food/water, extra layer, rain gear, emergency kit, etc. Tripod is kind of cheap/low quality, but it's light and only takes a couple seconds to set up. Pack is Osprey Stratos 24L. There is definitely room to go lighter, e.g. with a trail running vest but I'm happy with this setup
Wow! Can't wait to hike that area someday!! Love your work:)
Absolutely gorgeous out there, wow!
That hailstorm was wild.
Glad you made it through that storm safe!
Omg the views in that area are phenomenal 🤩 that is my favorite peak, followed by Wetterhorn. You captured such amazing beauty
Thanks. Looks like that trail is a class 1 or 2? pretty manageable. Also, what kind of camera did you use…looks real clear.
Only one or two class 2 sections near the very top, definitely manageable. Camera is iPhone 15 pro 4K 60fps, the 2x and 3x lenses (48 and 72 mm) have been game changers for me
Amazing and beautiful video!!
That’s a long ways.
Did you leave your tent setup while you hiked all the 14ers? Take a daypack only on the 14ers?
Yep that's correct. I just used my ultralight Durston Kakwa 55 and put in what I needed for the day
What sleeping bag do you use?
REI Magma 30 degree quilt. I've been pretty happy with it so far--light and not too expensive
@@montaneist thank you! Just went backpacking and nearly froze
Beautiful video, your best I think. If I were a younger man I would try some of these hikes. There's another Colorado hiker, Ruggedland, who posted a video on these same 14ers a few weeks ago. He took the train like you said on your way up.
Just did Audubon on Friday and had great views of Navajo but am not sure if I will try it. I am tempted to though
It's definitely technically harder than Audubon but comparable in terms of miles/elevation. The summit block has some required class 3
Did they charge you to enter the park on bike?
Nope, I parked at the winter/gateway lot which is before the entrance gate and was able to bike in no problem
nice, that is some steep country even by colorado standards
Congrats, amazing video. The Chicago basin is in my plans for next summer
Great video! I’m headed there in a few weeks. What time of year did you do this hike. Trying to gauge if I’ll need to pack crampons / ice axe.
Hey, hope I didn't catch you too late. This was at the tail end of June. I would think that by now that big snowfield would be mostly gone and easily avoided (though now OFC the first snow is flying). Probably no crampons/axe needed
Did you go up from Blaine Basin?
Nope I went up into the Blue Lakes basin. AFAIK there is a trail that ends at Blaine Basin but I know there is a couloir up there that people ski/snow climb
Nice shots!
Beautiful! This is still on my list. Nice work.
Man, every time above the tree line when it breaks into fields of broken rock and scree just gets me like it's a completely different world. You can really feel the massive power of wind, water, and time going up against the mountain itself.
Wow. Beautiful.
congrats, quite a feat. great shots, use more audio about what we are seeing
Great video. You've really raised your game with your shot composition, editing, etc and the 4k 60fps looks great. I saw a different video of climbing Sneffels where they drove a little 4-wheel drive buggy to within maybe a mile of the summit. Maybe that was on the other side? Your route seems much more scenic and peaceful.
Yes coming from the other side (Yankee Boy Basin) is like less than half the distance/elevation gain. But I thought Blue Lakes was much more scenic!
Awesome video! Epic scenes!!
