      Oh, thank you so much, I think the soup would still be tasty and super healthy with pesto. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I am really missing having a kitchen, but Mike's nearly finished the install and then the fun bit, decorating it. Hey Carla, I have not much idea how to do these things, I try to help a little, but I do keep him fed and the coffee going. 😏😃 When we were putting the cupboards together, we timed it, and it took Mike 7 minutes to put a cupboard together and it took me 1 1/2 hours 😉but I can use a drill a bit better now. Mike doesn't like his accent, but I do as well. ❤

      hehehehe, I wouldn't trust my ex husband to hang a picture frame so I know what you mean. Mike's been a tradie all his life, so he knows how to do a lot of things. And his German heritage makes him very good at finishing it all off, he is super fussy with tiling and in the end we got a perfect bench top join. He did have to redo the first one though.

    We couldn’t have afforded a new kitchen if we hadn’t tackled it ourselves. IKEA quoted us over $10,000 AUD just for the installation-and that didn’t even include the prep work you see in this video! Hi, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Just asking why put pasta in soup as you’ve got potatoes in it? Much love from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 so cold here, I will make this tomorrow.

    • @leescooking
      @leescooking 13 днів тому

      It's pretty hot here, but I still love a hot meal. Soup is so great for cold weather, it warms your insides 😉 Good point, I add the pasta for more substance, and it's a lovely texture. This soup is based on the French Soup - Soupe au Pistou. Over 100 years ago, the soup itself was comprised of only potatoes, beans, tomatoes and pasta, and it contained practically no liquid. It has evolved a bit since then, but the original version always contained potatoes and pasta. Love from hot Australia. ❤

  • @leescooking
    @leescooking 13 днів тому

    "A few quick tips for this soup! 1⃣ Want to save time? Use canned beans and jarred pesto-it’ll still be delicious! Add the beans when you add the pasta. 2⃣ Love garlic? Keep all 4 cloves in the pistou, it's very garlicky, but if you prefer a milder flavour, reduce it to 2 cloves. 3⃣ You can serve the pistou on the side, but make sure to season the soup well first-it’ll be a bit bland without it. 4⃣ To make this soup vegan, swap the Parmesan for vegan cheese or nutritional yeast-it’s just as tasty!"

    Me, being the ever curious cat😻, googled the name "Sloppy Joe". This is what I found. Some attribute the original Sloppy Joe to a cafe in Sioux City, Iowa, where, many years ago, in 1930 a cook named Joe added tomato sauce to his “loose meat” sandwiches. Voila: a new between-the-bread offering, and the sandwich's official name. So if we converted our savoury mince by just adding tomato sauce we get Sloppy Joe .😂

    I have been making pavlovas for over 55 years and have only yesterday came across the “ all in one “ recipe. So much easier and as long as the sugar dissolves it should work. I would still use 1 cup sugar for 4 eggs and it is a good idea mixing the cornflour through the sugar. Do you know why boiling water is included? I’ve seen others include it but only 2 tbs. We also tend to cool overnight in the oven. I’m so glad you turn the Pavlova over for all the right reasons. It does indent a little for the filling and if you’ve gone to all that effort to create the beautiful crunchy meringue on the outside you certainly don’t want to softened it with cream. Well done and I’m looking forward to trying it. Thank you. 😊.

    • @leescooking
      @leescooking 22 дні тому

      You're most welcome. This pav isn't probably the prettiest one, but the crust meringue to marshmallow filling is spot on. I've been using this recipe for years, it's a lot less fuss, and no need to keep it in the oven overnight. Every time I make it at work, it gets devoured. I believe the hot water makes it a nice consistency.

    They look delicious. I remember we use to call them sponge kiss, I always had one for recess at school. Thanks for the recipe, I didn't relize how simple they are to make.

      So simple and they're really light. You can jam and cream them and keep them in the fridge for a few days as well. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

    🇨🇦Well that was clever. I was wondering how you got onion leaves, I had not heard of this method before. It is a bit like making cabbage rolls using cabbage leaves. I have to try these, I love onions.

    • @leescooking
      @leescooking 27 днів тому

      Yeah, it's actually pretty easy. My mother-in-law came over earlier this year from Germany and showed me how to make cabbage rolls, they were yum too, but I found them a lot fiddlier than the onion rolls. I imagine you can stuff the onion rolls with anything. The key is cooking them until they are quite soft, then when you roast them, they melt in your mouth. Merry Christmas.

    Whats the recipe for the whipped cream? Whats items and the quantity you used?

    • @leescooking
      @leescooking 28 днів тому

      I just whipped about 300ml of cream (a small bottle) - but you can add more or less if you please. I also put a layer of jam on the sponge first, then the cream, then the top of the sponge, then I dust it with icing sugar. If you haven't made your sponge yet, tomorrow morning I have a very simple & delicious recipe for individual sponge kisses coming out. They are super easy, take 10 minutes to make and 6 to 7 minutes to cook per batch.

    Wow, my Nanna used to make this cake and distribute it to all the family and I loved it. Thanks to your video it doesn’t seem so intimidating to make now. I’ll have to try making it with gluten free flour so I can try a piece.

      Oh, that's a nice memory. I'm Gluten Free and you can use any flour, I made one for my daughter using 1 cup buckwheat flour + 1 cup GF SR Flour, worked great. I hope you enjoy it and have a lovely Christmas.

    Hi Lee, this is amazing, so delicious. I made a batch for Christmas presents and people are already asking me if I can make some more for them. It's super easy to make and better than any store brought product. Thanks for the recipe. Have a wonderful Christmas.

      @@Nicola-MaryBraithwaite Oh that makes me so happy, I'm glad you enjoyed them. They are my top 2 condiments, then in summer I always make a delicious mango chutney (we have lots of mango trees) and Mike just loves his curry ketchup, especially good with mayo and hot chips :) We normally always have those 4 condiments on hand.
