CoCo...must try to build this! Thanks for the vid
Is it necessary to remove the SD card to copy the file into the ID50 folder on that card, or... can I simply connect the ID50 to my PC via its USB-C port and then copy the file to the ID50 SD via the drive letter assigned by Windows?
I guess this filter should be used for ADS-B only since it blocks all other frequencies. Will the same filter work on RTL-SDR V4?
On sale now finally 12/16/2024 $1239.99
It is an excellent radio, absolutely worth the money.
Way to go Carlos!!! Btw, how long did it take you to write the title? 😂😂 73 Becky es Mike
Google Translate to the rescue!
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity That's too funny 🤣🤣
I enjoyed the title in CW.
I have to learn don't I?
I used to take my radio up a lot when I started having to open high due to ear problems. I worked statewide in Florida over Z-hills with 150 milliwatts on 2m and 70cm
Florida is a great place to work with radios under a parachute, I bet you had some great contacts. At the very leas you were warmer than I was on my jumps in October in Illinois! Blue Skies & 73!
This is the neatest and most unusual sub-hobby inside amateur radio I have yet seen. I love the idea of operating an HF radio while parachuting/descending at about 1000 ft/min. 73s de VA7WPX
It is a whole lot of fun! Thanks Warren.
Nice one Carlos, no way could I cope with the cold like that.
I'm an addict to skydiving, so I do what addicts do. Thanks Paddy!
“Questioning my sanity”😂
Just about every day I endure the cold winters of the midwest.
Should be interesting. Any work on RTL-SDR products? I have an RTLSDR V3 and was just looking at an RTL-SDR Blog ADS-B Triple Filtered LNA (Bias Tee Powered). That's how I landed here. 👍
I sure have. The RTL-SDR v3 is what I tested in a different video. The series has a few videos in it. I won't spoil the results but I will say that the RTL-SDR is not the most competitive item in the list.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity Subbed. Thanks Carlos (sp). I didn't realize this was your channel until after I posted this! I found your other tests and will take a look. I think I heard you on Josh's (KI6NAZ) channel and I know I've heard Jason mention you. 🍻
Bro. 164 views? You deserve 25k. KC8SGJ Edit - Can you explain what is going on while you are shaking the white peice of parachute that looks undeployed? Is this a malfunction?
Thanks Paul! Help me spread the word, I'd love to have 25k views on each video. The white piece is called a slider. It is a piece of the system designed to slow down the opening of the parachute and when it is done doing its job it gets tucked in behind my head.
Nice jump Carlos! Hope you had your electric long johns on! LOL! 73!
I needed them even if I didn't have them. BRRRRRR it was cold!
I must say it looked beautiful up there Carlos. The cameras are excellent quality. Keep up the good work spreading that positivity my friend. I feel so proud to sponsor (a tiny amount) such a decent human being.
Thank you Paddy, I greatly appreciate your support. Every bit helps.
You need to do 30m and 60m now. You must get contacts on all the WARC bands, LOL. (I'm assuming you've already done 17m).
I can only do 30m if I do FT8 or FT4, there is no SSB allocation on the band. I can probably swing 60m over summer of 2025.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity Just get the SDR app so you can do FT8 from the 705, LOL
@@MikeN2MAK Got the app. Can't get the phone and the radio to pair. That is probably going to turn into a video.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity I had some issues at first but eventually got it all working. I haven't used it in a while though and should probably revisit it.
That's really cool. Looks better than the morserino. Just grabbed a paddle key, now it looks like I'll need to hit up Vince 😂 Thanks for showing this off!
It is so much easier to see than the morserino. Don't get me wrong, I will still use the morserino but this will be my desk trainer.
Dude. You are doing AWESOME! Keep it up, practise every day is all you have to do. And thanks for the video too! vy 73 Amigo
Appreciate that, amigo! It's a challenge but the more I practice, the better I get!
Nice work dude. I still gotta explore that neck of the park!
It is a gem of a park for sure.
Geez, were you in a contest you were doing this so fast?
Because I hate watching videos that drag a 3 minute topic into 30 minutes of fluff.
Idk how I came across this but what does any of this mean?
Fall leaf peeping is the simple joy of admiring and exploring the vibrant colors of autumn foliage. As the seasons change, trees like maples, oaks, and birches transform their leaves into bright shades of red, orange, yellow, and gold. People who enjoy leaf peeping often take scenic drives, hikes, or strolls through parks and forests to soak in the beauty of the season. Think of it as nature's grand art show, where the canvas is the landscape, and the colors are fleeting, making it a special, time-sensitive activity. It's a way to connect with nature, relax, and appreciate the wonder of the changing seasons.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity I can appreciate that! What about all the radio comms and activation? That part confused me.
Still looked like fun, even in the cold!
I love jumping out of airplanes so yea, still heaps of fun.
Great video! Brrrrrr! Damn that's cold!
It is one thing to be in that level of cold for a minute or two. It is another to spend 15 minutes up there.
Do Power Splitters fail? One may think that since P.S. don't have any active components therefore they wouldn't fail.
Like most passive components, they can fail if abused.
Nice! 73,,K6ZTM
Thanks!
We’re going to activate there Saturday.
How did it go?
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity Pretty good. Think we got 50 and then moved on to snag 12003 & 12004 before it got too dark.
What’s the benefit of the TNC connection over a SO-239?
It has a weather seal like an N Type connector but it is about the size of a BNC connector. All the sealing and half the size.
Man, your videos get better and better every time. I was amazed at how much colder it was at altitude. Glad you had a safe and successful jump. Keep having fun and doing what you do!
Appreciate it! I always try to keep it interesting. Thanks Paul.
Is the data you are showing from ADSB Exchange itself or from a application to feed the network for the site? I've been thinking of setting up a feeder for the network as well but haven't seen as cheap a way to go as doing it with a SDR dongle and maybe a Pi
That data is direct from my receiver. The cheapest way I know to set one up is with a Pi. Check with the networks, if they have *low* or no coverage in your area already they will happily set you up with one for free. If you are in the USA they probably have coverage but you never know. I have a video on my channel detailing the process of building one. Super easy stuff.
I meant the display that looked like ADSB exchange website data. Yeah there is reasonably good coverage where I am at less than 2 miles from a Class D airport.
Yup, that is still my receiver's info directly being served by the receiver running on the Pi.
@ okay, thanks looks like I still have more to learn before jumping into this. Thanks for your responses
I might get one of them for my next radio... Stay tuned to find out.
Totally worth it.
Awesome job! We both worked many of the same stations. The bands were amazing that day!
It was a super day, I was really surprised how active the bands were!
I love this! This is the mashup of two former hobbies of mine. I also used to knit - Next perhaps you can skydive while knitting a scarf (use flexible needles to avoid hurting yourself with pointy objects objects upon landing)
I don't know how to knit and learning CW is *way* ahead of that. Thanks for watching.
Love how the plane stayed with you!
That pilot is the stuff of legend.
Great video! Glad you had an awesome SYP weekend.
Thanks! It's always nice to get out and enjoy the fall colors!
👍🏻 Nice!
Thanks Rodger!

Nicely done!
Gracias Mike!
CARLOS what a great Parachute Mobile. what was the mic?. sound great 73s 7Z1SJ
RadioSport headset
Great video! What was the record distance?
Thanks! There is no way to tell with a jump like this one. There were people traveling from all over the country to come to this hamfest so I have no way of knowing where exactly they were when the contact was made. In other videos I post estimated ranges based on their home address town.
Man you gotta slow down for those Alabamians.... but then again you would only have 5 contacts by the time you hit the ground lol
LMAO - I do find myself wondering why people and not just Alabamians don't understand the context of "I'm under a parachute, no real time for a rag chew".
Thanks for the contact! I have been anxiously waiting for the You Tube to "verify the QSO"...Thanks
Well now you have confirmation. I hope to catch up QSL cards by January of 2025.
THIS IS COOL AS FUCK! What does "CQ" stand for?
Transmitting the letters CQ on a particular radio frequency means that the transmission is a broadcast or "General Call" to anyone listening, and when the operator sends "K" or says "Go Ahead" it is an invitation for any licensed radio station listening on that frequency to respond.
Like @Jagabot_Esq noted it is a general call for a contact. The letters CQ are short for Seek You. As in "I seek you for a contact".
Not a skydiver, don't ever plan on it. But, I appreciate someone who's creating content. I'm still dragging my feet but it's 'about' to happen. lol. Liked & Subscribed! :)
Make the content! It takes time but if you have a story to tell others might find it interesting. I started this channel basically by mistake. Here I am a few years later enjoying the process.
Bummer you lost the bowtie. Great video as always!
No, the magnets on the parachute container caught it by the metal clasp. I still have it.
@LifeAtTerminalVelocity that's great! I saw it come off and my heart sank for you. Glad it was saved
That's always cool.
Thank you!
This is pretty amazing
