Saving Time and Money on your next RV Trip!
Some general tips I'm sharing that have helped us same time and money on our campground type vacations and planning over the years, especially since if you want to visit some of the more "popular" attractions (i.e. Yosemite Park, Grand Canyon or Yellowstone Park) you may find it expensive and difficult to plan - especially if you wait till the last moment.

Excellent video! Thank you!!
Spent a night here last week on my way to Ironwood. Did the trick....good spot!
Saving money is always a good thing❤ my husband bought his Frontier loving it!! Our son inherited his 2016 still running strong 💪🏼 Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New year!!!
Thank you for this video You covered a lot of information. When we were camping we ran into a couple of full time RVers that told us about the “Twos of RVing”. The first “two” is to only travel 2 hundred miles a day. The second is to stay a minimum of 2 days in each spot. The third one is to travel on Tuesdays. They said these tips saved them a lot of money and helped them plan their trips. Hope this helps
@@nanvaughn2258 Great ideas - thanks for sharing 😊
I am coming back to say thanks for this video. I came across it late last year looking for BLM areas to stay. It worked out perfect because we got our Marriage License in Camp Verde and we wanted to stay overnight before we heaed up to Sedona and then to The Grand Canyon to get married. We stayed off this same road in our C class. It was very helpful. This bailed me out and added to our memorable trip!
@@daver35 Awesome, glad to hear it was helpful - and congratulations 🎉 to you two!
Good review
@@TrekkingwithDebandMike Thanks 😊 I am watching it (again lol!) myself and just caught a little goof of mine! Oh, well lol!
Great video as always! Thanks for the heads-up on the road. I don’t think my 4Runner could handle it - plus my wife would freak out! 😂
Love it . Great video.
Sweet
Looks great 👍
Nice monitor!
It’s touch screen! My old one was smaller and you had to use buttons to make changes or switch modes etc. they also have a rear view mirror mount, I’ll show that later!

@@zydecco1205 great to know - thanks 😊
~ I lived in that cabin, 1981.
Really great video & thank you very much for sharing your wealth of information. I'm a Wisconsin snowbird & really appreciate all the cool places to explore & driving my UTV in Arizona.
You forgot all of the state parks. They are all the best.
what did you mean "no build"?
@@velocity800 its a term a lot of truck campers use now to describe a camper setup that has “nothing permanent added” to turn it into a camper such as wood or metal platforms etc. In about 30 minutes I can remove everything and use my truck for hauling stuff again.
I love your new truck and certainly understand the appeal of basic camping again!
@@briley7157 Thank you 😊 we will still be using our motorhome, just now we can get to some more rugged locations and camp.
@@HolidayForTwo42 I thought that was what you're thinking, nice to have options! Coming your way this coming week 2400 miles to get to PHX! Your videos have been a tremendous help!!!!
Might work until the raccoons or bears show up and start going through your containers.
@@davidk6668 🤣 lol, good point! No food in those.
I prefer Proctor Rd Boondocking over Bog Springs because you have a view of the valley and good cell signal, I even get a decent TV signal with my antenna, and the spaces are farther apart than Bogs. It’s best for rigs under 30ft because of dips in the road. It’s close to nice hiking along the creek. Kent Springs Cabin is the Forest Service cabin but it’s pretty much always fully booked.
@@jakckt Proctor Rd looked like a good spot except for the road being a little rough going through the creek area - more shade up at Bog Springs but this time of year less shade is better 😊
Here’s a link to complete rules and regulations for KOFA area - www.fws.gov/refuge/kofa/what-we-do/laws-regulations
So you are flying a drone where it is expressly prohibited. Did you read the rules posted on the sign at the entrance? Also, you have to camp within 100' of the road in designated areas, not "anywhere" as you state.
Thank you for the information.
Love watching birds there.
from WI we will be in that area in jan 2025 how's weather then ? we have a class c
If I could predict that I'd be a millionaire! lol! Just kidding - well your best plan is to be prepared for a mixture of weather - it can be warm enough for shorts and t-shirts one week to cold, rainy and windy the next! I have a video on Winter camping you might want to check out. Today, it's going to be 72H/48L in Tucson. Which means it will be about 10-12 degrees cooler in Madera Canyon. Seeing that you're from WI you should be used to cold, so that's good - just to be safe, I'd plan for all kinds of weather! A good safe bet would be to stay in the lower elevation areas (Tucson, Yuma, Quartzsite etc.) I would avoid the Phoenix Area though, just too crowded around this place!
Great campsite. Very convenient. I stay 4 days every month.
Thanks for the information your channel provides. It's nice to see some of the things we are considering when we plan. We also love off-roading. This will be our first winter in Arizona. Happy travels.
Well that's a bummer they too away the ability to boondock in the flat, paved area there by the boat ramp. Not very close and downhill to the water. Looks a little hard to hand launch a kayak there. Back to the boat ramp I guess.
@@Cyfi71 yes, the park changed the rules for shoreline camping a few years ago and I didn’t know till I went out there last Fall. Bummer for sure! I think Bartlet is one of last lakes where you can still shore camp ⛺️
@ that paved overflow was nice and flat and I always enyo
@@HolidayForTwo42 I always enjoyed that overflow spot. I guess I'll have to try Bartlett next time for boondocking. Haven't been up to lake pleasant this year so I'll take the kayak up for a day paddle and check that all out. Sure easy to go up there from our winter digs in Surprise.
@@Cyfi71 Pleasant is great for day trips and stuff but more limits now on camping areas 😒
Thanks for the suggestions. I also confuse altitude with elevation.
Just ordered the Arizona Highways book! I’ve been to both Catalina & Patagonia Lake State Parks! Love them both!
Great! I love mine, keep it in my RV now for reference!
9 year living in my trailer. I do dispersed camping only and it matters how close to what city. Not afraid don't like tweeckers
Question. Has anyone done a book on dispersed camping Arizona?
@@Bumblingdesertdweller not that I’m aware of - would be nice, but situations change so quickly it might be difficult to keep current.
The only problem is pay campgrounds often require reservations made several months in advance making planning for the season/weather moot.
@@schmonsequences exactly! Sometimes you get lucky - once in a while you don’t. Experienced that on a few occasions.

This is the route my parents like to take when they go from our house in California to their other house in Humboldt. We used to drive this way every summer to Church Camp off Senator Highway. Love the Prescott area! Thanks for the ride along and the beautiful music Dave!
It is a nice ride and a change of pace for us coming up from the Valley to Prescott as well. Glad you enjoyed it!

Great video i like the way your running boards appear to hug the frame it really adds to the coolness of your truck. i stumbled on your video as ive been searching for running boards and alot of them look too busy for me. I just bought a new ProX in Desert Storm 2 weeks ago (2024) i got a tonneau cover and fitted floor mats and your video helped me decide on my next purchase Thank You! BTW i like the color of your truck.
@@roybest8403 Thanks! I’m sort of glad now it didn’t come with the stock side rails since they ride lower and closer to the ground. The more I drive it, the more I like it! 😁 I had an 07’ Tundra for the last 11 years and loved it too, but wanted 4x4 and something mid sized. The Tacoma was a close second, but price was too high and the turbos and transmissions on the Tacomas have been having lots of problems. Enjoy yours! 😉
Thank you for making this video! We have hiked a lot in the 7 Springs area but never camped there. You mentioned there aren’t hook ups at the campground. Is there a water station? Or should we plan to bring our own water?
I don’t recall seeing any water spigot around the campground anywhere so just to be safe I would bring water 💦

Man, all my questions answered in 1 video! Huzzah! I've been researching over a couple days and ended up bewildered. Now I'm informed! Thank you sir, you are a gentleman!
I was just there a couple of weeks ago. You can buy the Tonto pass at the ranger station but it is 12 dollars there, If you buy it ahead of time somewhere else it is 8 dollars. I buy mine at Big 5 by my house. So I am not sure about all of those other places you have mentioned, but I can confirm that you can buy the passes for 8 dollars at Big 5.
