    just started strongman and stones, glad I found this vid. Looks like I was one motioning correctly :D did a lapped rep with a 110kg stone and then just kinda manhandled it the next few. That motion feels SOOO good and smooth when done well, even got a few reps to kind of pop off my chest and get some air over the the yoke bar, just makes you feel like a beast lol I'm so happy I made the switch from powerlifting, these movements are more fun to execute since there's more skill involved. My log is pretty solid, but my axle clean is a fucking nightmare. The 150kg axle I pressed it like it was air, but the clean itself was a 30 second endeavor lmfao it's fun struggling again. Gonna binge your channel today and hopefully learn some cool stuff, I'm gonna try doing vipers on my log warmups like you said, all about that nice smooth flow. I've actually never done a viper press, looking forward to it now lol

    As you're gifted with good genetics, has there been any diet or exercise program that didn't work for you? Or does literally everything just work well for you? I'm the opposite such that almost nothing works lol.

    • @victorianstrengthclub6858
      @victorianstrengthclub6858 5 місяців тому

      @@davidbusuttil5955 thanks for the question I’ve thought about this one lots! Most everything works for me especially if I’ve researched the diet or training protocol I’m about to follow, as it gives a sense of belief. I’ve tried high fat high protein low carb and literally felt horrible in 24 hours. I’ve learned when going low carb you need to place extra importance in salt which I didn’t do. Exercise wise, I still believe training hard is the key ingredient, so when I’m tried different programs or strategies there’s always been a benefit. The best thing to learn is to listen to your body, and what works for now may not work forever. Thanks again! I don’t think I have gifted genetics btw. Fortunately I’ve never had gut issues or disordered eating growing up. So a healthy metabolism allows for more freedom is my opinion

    If someone is eating 1800 calories and moving around a bit throughout the day, this will NOT result in morbid obesity. It's not like we all of a sudden selected for the genetics that create more and more obese people. We did not suddenly change the genetic predispositions. There is some truth to the "obese metabolism" issue in that certain hormonal regulatory pathways are usually damaged. That can lead to more hunger, decrease in lipid oxidation, increase in insulin production, etc. etc. all of that will affect the overall balance. But the overall balance is disrupted by lifestyle choices as a first step in the overwhelming majority of cases!

    • @victorianstrengthclub6858
      @victorianstrengthclub6858 5 місяців тому

      I agree Yes. For me the main take away or most important part to learn is the advice we give someone who is suffering from this damaged metabolism. Expecting them to now be able to move more and eat less is going to be extremely tough if we understand the hormones involved. Perhaps eat more pro metabolic foods and move as much as you feel you can would help with adherence

    • @justaname999
      @justaname999 5 місяців тому

      @@victorianstrengthclub6858 I agree 100% that starting with realistic goals and advice is important. My comment was mostly directed at the crowd who likes to say that overweight people undereat and generally eat less than skinny people. Granted, I have never been really obese but I've gone through a phase of 50 pound weight gain, which is a lot for me (I was 120-130 my whole life before). And it was so easy to fall in the trap of "I am just not losing weight, something must be wrong with me." Meanwhile, it was "forgotten" snacks that kept me at the same weight even when I felt like I wasn't eating. Again, this is not a general case, I was not massively overweight, I always exercised and walked at least 10k steps a day, I never had high blood pressure, nor bad blood work in general, which might mean that my hormonal balance was ok. I am not trying to go "if I could do it, anyone can." But even so, given the massive weight gain, some aspects of my metabolism and/or hunger signaling would have been messed up, and maybe I would have reacted worse to some intake than a normal weight person would have. However, in the end, actually changing the mindset, correcting the stress factors (a.k.a. finally getting through my tenure procedure), and really paying attention to my caloric intake eventually helped. And that has to happen, as you say, in a gradual way. But people also absolutely *must* understand that results will take time, and that it's really about a permanent change and not about a "diet." But yes, interesting take :)

    • @victorianstrengthclub6858

      @@justaname999 absolutely mate well said. Someone with an obese metabolism is actually stuck in a cycle, where the hormone leptin let the Brain know the stomach is full is being released as it should be, but Grehlin the hormone responsible for hunger is also being released! Because the cells are starving for nutrition Due to the starvation , the whole body is Down regulated to preserve energy 😯 So an obese person is literally been told by the body to eat more and move less ! When I’ve tried to put on weight in the past, this has not been my experience at all . I have to force feed and go to bed with a sore stomach from eating so much. But that is because my metabolism is not damaged or obese. Absolutely though, it is a mindset shift like what you said!

    • @justaname999
      @justaname999 5 місяців тому

      @@victorianstrengthclub6858 Those are actually very important points people should be making because both "it's all calories in and calories out" as well as "it's not about calories" are wrong statements because they are very reductive. This is also, why it was easier for me to lose weight, in the end than many people who also carry 50 extra pounds. I was never an overeater. I would have unhealthy late night snacks when writing or coding, which sneakily add up. But I'm very good at not eating much during the day. So I've never understood the "hunger" issue people talk about. Every person needs to understand their own patterns and adapt slowly.

      It’s true, I don’t believe great eating habits and exercise have it will cause obesity But once the metabolism is obese, it doesn’t seem like following the habits of a healthy individual Will yield same results Perhaps a better approach to obesity is to encourage pro metabolic foods without limiting the amount Also encouraging movement exercise with an understanding that the individual feel like moving more once their metabolism becomes less obese

    Hey nice video mate. You mention the donut has almost equal fat + carbs, but then avoiding it due to the high fat content. I'd avoid it because high fat + high carbs + little protein is the formula the processed food industry have found by trial and error to make junk food as highly palatable as possible and stimulate overeating and increased consumption. If you think about what foods you can overeat that are fat + protein, or carbs + protein that you can binge on, there is very few, and the unprocessed foods which are fat + carbs such as nuts are also easy to overeat. Makes me question why dietitians all recommend a balanced diet.

    • @victorianstrengthclub6858
      @victorianstrengthclub6858 6 місяців тому

      Valid points for sure. My argument would be someone with a healthy and functioning metabolism will be less effected by overeating than someone with a damaged or obese metabolism. But I hear ya!

      @victorianstrengthclub6858 5 місяців тому

      @@davidbusuttil5955 my personal opinion is that there isn’t one thing definitely causing it all. But if people quit the junk/processed food and began cooking all their meals with real food, I believe the Issue would slowly lower to the obesity levels we had 50+ years ago. My hunch is seed oils in the food are the worst culprit. Some of the added sugar and refined flour isn’t helping, but that doesn’t mean I believe carbs or sugar or to blame.

    Knowledge asks the "What´s" and "Why´s", Wisdom asks the "When´s" and "Where´s". This means that knowledge devoid of consciousness about the place and time to apply it is unwise, knowledge must conform itself in action with the pace of the universe or else it is anti-universe (anti God´s Will), and by extension, anti-self as we take ourselves out of the cosmic pace, we disintegrate and deny ourselves and our essence/bliss by not conforming to "What Is" in the present moment (the current place and time we find ourselves in) and to "What We Are" in it, meaning, to not chose the self expression that will bring us more joy as a whole in the present situation. Joy stemming from the self as a whole is contagious and should be shared with the world. This is our purpose in all times and places.

    Great words and explanation my friend. I find that sandbags may have even an effect that yoga, meditation and others don´t have as much, which is the vascular-relaxation-effect that follows in the days after the workout, because the unique pressure one develops in training in the body is a kind of flowing-yet-isometric endeavor that both promotes the blood circulation throughout the body and a continuous expansive effect on the blood vessels and heart output (paired with superior nervous system engagement/focus). One becomes much more relaxed than if practicing any other physical activity, patience goes sky high. It is really an antidote to modern day comfortable life in which we neither contract fully nor do we relax fully. Sandbags resets the mind and body because the body is holistically contracted at his peak while the mind is also focused at his highest (engaging the brain-body and breathing control and activation system like no other activity).
