Sleeping Dogs: Walking on Water
Hey everyone,
This is a video about a thing in Sleeping dogs and Sleeping dogs definitive edition called "walking on water" I'm not sure who it was coined by, but there are videos going back as far as 2012 with the games first release.
As this is the first time this map can be visually seen, I'd like to call this room "Kuri's Room" until a real name for it is located.
This video HOPEFULLY explains what this place is, what it used to be, and why its there. Enjoy :)
This is the last video that I'll be working on for a while due to personal situations and having to move, gathering funds, etc etc etc. I figured, I may as well post what I have prepped. which is just this.

    Have you looked at Brotherhood stuff? Some builds are public and somewhat playable on Xenia. I just want to play those numerous cut VR Missions :( They pretty much cover every game mechanic But I don't know how to access the mission loader

      I have looked at brotherhood stuff, unfortunately, there wasn't much there :( to access map menu, load the release. Xex and then press in L3 and select.

    Now that I come back to this, I feel like that a lot of people would've drawn similarities to Hitman blood money, since it has a (while not exactly like this) similar mission where you're protecring a political figure from assassins.

      @@kuriatsu I did some digging I tried running scimitar_profile_engine on xenia and a modded jtag xbox360 I get a black screen any way to run the May 17, 2013 ac4?

      I'm not sure to be honest. Try resigning the xex. I suggest reaching out to obscure gamers discord server or alpha archive. When do you get the black screen? How long do you wait on it? Have you tried making sure the time clock is set correctly?

      @@kuriatsu It turns out I need to convert my jtag to a dev build by using rgloader. Thanks for your help as soon as I launch profilexex I get a black screen, and it’s impossible on xenia.

      Some work on Xenia, but most don't. Those that do are excessively unstable.

      It is not available anywhere that I am aware of. However it's also a major pain to work with due to its unique copy protection :( I don't remember the exact specifics I mentioned in the video, but I booted it in a psp on disc, works fine. I boot it as an iso on a psp1000, it crashes if it goes to a new map. The same happens on vita-1000, PPSSPP, and so on unfortunately :( I'm not sure if booting from a DVD on either a devkit or PPSSPP would bypass this or not though or what separates the umd boot vs the iso boot.

    I never thought I’d see any kind of documentation on sleeping dogs.. ever. Does the game actually have anything interesting inside or is it kept squeaky clean? Great video as always!

      There are 4 debug menus, and a "model viewer" but it's really more like a singular non-mobile 3d art room that is just under a freeway. It's weird. Other than those it's basically retail from what I understand. There is the invisible room in the video, the E3 trailer that I showed too, but there's also some benchmarking stuff, I think debug symbols and maybe a few other things. Nothing too terribly exciting sadly

      I'm reasonably sure that the invisible room was in the tc era, likely early on because it's so simple in terms of polygonal models. But I think that's it sadly for the tc era :( sorry :(

      it is. I've been working with 13thvessel to convince dragmire to release it. so it was agreed eventually to put it up for the fundraiser. I hope its what everyone was expecting it to be.

      Did you play the debug build on a CFW Ps3 or on a Tool/Test console? I've been trying to run it on my CFW Console but it just doesnt want to Load into the game select screen.

      I was able to load into the game using my decr devkit. I only ever played it on my decr though before sending it back to dragmire. I could try loading it on a dech console I guess since the data is public now. I can also try loading it on rpcs3 I guess. It sounds like there's intermittent problems with that though.

    seeing the water fluctuate like that at 3:00 reminded me of the glitch 10 years ago where the water would sink down and cause the jackdaw to ascend out of it, could this perhaps have something to do with that interaction? like the game sometimes loads the interaction for the water by accident?

      I would agree, however that effect doesn't actually happen in the game from what I remember. Logically that's what should happen though.

    There's something really funny about the stage mashups in the prototype needed to be activated by k*lling the invader itself before it invades the stage, but I much prefer the more convenient automatic transitions from the final game, it's less clunky, more organic and doesn't cut off the pace of the match (it alerady has enough troubles on its own)

    There's an assassins creed panel where Kaniehtí:io Horn explains that originally Ziios name was Ari:sawe, which just translates to Elizabeth. She told the writer how theres a lot more cooler Mohawk names, and they ended up just going with the actresses actual Mohawk name.

      I do have a video on AC1, but its not to the same extent as these videos. Unfortunately though, I am unaware of any build of AC2 that has ever surfaced.

      @@kuriatsu the debug menu was found and it has a e3 build slide but it does not work it’s missing a few files to work idk much about making games or files but can the files be forged to be like the ones used to make it work or is it not possible till the files are found? Also the debug menu is on nexusmods.

      I appreciate the offer, but I found it. That's a debug menu called" mapmenu" Mapmenu can be useful, but most of the time it's just for quick access to a specific mission or forgefile. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide any more than that :(

    Oh my goodness. For many years I have wanted to look what the Rhodes maps appeared from the outside, especially the area you visited right outside of the Harbor of Rhodes, at the start exiting the Knight's Hospital map, and particularly Naillac Tower and the Saint Nicholas Fortress. I am a bit surprised that the Naillac Tower exists outside of the Souk map. As for the barriers you crossed at 22:45, the answer is simple, they exist as they are the barriers of the Knight's Hospital map. I genuinely wonder if they had made the whole city for the Singleplayer, but then repurposed it for the Multiplayer. It is such a shame that they did not make it possible to free roam all the city - even through MP modes that would cover the whole massive map. Very curious that in the Castel Gandolfo map you found Donatello's "David", well outside the map, especially that being so far removed from the map that never would a player even see it there.

    This was great, thank you for your contribution to the fanbase. A slight correction though, I think from the interviews of Nolan North the point of "Desmond in a spaceship" was not that he would be taken with Lucy to a different planet, to become Adam an Eve, but actually they would be raptured from the Grand Temple and Juno's sight, with her believing them gone, but they would become "Adam and Eve" as in the leadership of the Human resistance against the Enslavement of Mankind and the return of the Precursors.

    Hi again and thanks for the uploads! Why is the game title named “comet” even as far as having its own logo? Also was Shay with the hood on his Templar outfit ever a thing or was it just made for promotional material? As for another question pertaining Arkham asylum, how much do we actually know about the 2007 alpha build? Is it accessible in any way? Strangely no real information exists about Arkham game builds apart from origins, so I can’t wait for them to be covered on this channel

      The game is titled comet as that was the codename of the game. Something about the original story that was intended for the game prior to what it is now. Something about a comet falling is all I know. based on that, there was probably an evacuation which is why the office is a mess. Eventually that was changed to safeguards or a computer virus being put in place or something upon finding Shay's data. which honestly never made sense to me. Who the hell puts a computer virus in proprietary data about 200 year old memories thats supposed to be more secret than Torchwood? I bet rebecca crane would, but I doubt she has the fundamental understanding enough to create a virus. Modding; yes. virus; probably not As for asylum, I haven't heard of anything in asylum. I figure that because Batman is a sort of flagship for DC, they'd probably require all info upfront before the game authorizes, so they probably knew exactly what they needed before the game even started development in code. As for origins, sadly, my builds are the second iteration of them. what I mean is that there were at least 2 versions of Arkham origins. 1 where Arkham was actually early in the game, and another where Arkham is late in the game. the former, is out there, somewhere, but I don't really know where. I think those are january 2013. not sure. I'll do some quick research. I still need to actually play the game to see if they're of any value in covering them. Debug for sure, but anything more than that, I'm not sure yet. for rogue with Shay's hood up. I'm almost certain I've seen it before, but I'm not 100% on that. I see a lot of things in the builds that I end up forgetting, sorry :(

      ok, so for arkham, there are some pieces of info on Arkham asylum and arkham city, but not much sadly. there are also prototypes of origins out there, I know that much, but where they are, I'm unsure of as the usual resources only have multiplayer online. I'll check a resource to confirm something about arkham city though.

      @chilling5858 OK, so there IS a debug build of arkham city out there on PC. But its effectively a final with partial debug, because its in the final released game. Its basically the equivalent of "mapmenu" being in an AC game. I could definitely make a video about it, but it'd be like...5 minutes. There are some dev map choices in arkham city, but they are no longer in the game, as a consequence, the game crashes immediately upon selecting them. But I wouldn't mind bundling that into my coverage on arkham origins, whenever that happens.

      these builds are natural debug builds. based on what I've seen, it'd be incredibly difficult, if its even possible to access debug in a non-debug ac build such as retail. sadly there has not been an origins, odyssey or valhalla debug build that has surfaced. Map menu is possible in varying AC games in retail, but unfortunately, I don't know a whole lot about accessing them directly. sorry :(

      unfortunately, that's not really something I can talk about. I can tell you for my rogue, aciv and AC3 builds, I got them from a private seller. for the one in this video, when it goes live on the 4th, I can tell you that its on steam and does require a legitimate license from having purchased the game. That's about all I can say.

      yes, I do have one for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but unfortunately, there wasn't much in that as it was pretty much final. but with debug, even the dev freecam didn't want to work with me... :( was there something specific you wanted me to check for in there?

    Very cool! Rogue is my favourite AC game, even though it was really rushed. Also, Haytham doesn't seem to say anything in the demo; the person talking about disposition is Gist. Which makes sense, as I don't think Haytham joins Shay on the Morrigan unless in specific memories (Men o' War, Bravado, and Non Nobis Domine) - all of which are story-related missions. I don't remember Haytham having any ship-/captain-related comments, unlike in AC3, where he roasts Connor's skills.

      Yeah, looking over the video as it was debuting, that's what I came to as well. I think the only reason he roasted connor is because he recognized connor as his son, and planned on continued interactions through necessity. whereas with shay, he saw him as an idiot, rolled his eyes and just kept saying to himself "after this, I'm never seeing him again, maintain a working relationship..." or something.

    It’s interesting to see that the same demo/build was made for ps3, when the actual presented demo was for the 360. Also why do the button prompts have this background outline or shape to them? Further do you plan on covering the other parts of the demo (unless this was already covered as I currently have no audio access)? Great content once again and looking forward to the Batman build videos whenever it’s ready!

      Being honest, because rogue would constantly crash, I didn't really do a lot of investigation into it. Rogue would crash constantly regardless of what build I loaded. so while I wanted to show more(like achilles basement in rogue being empty, or areas outside of their unique missions) I settled on just showing dev maps. I hope I can find interesting batman content, I still need to work my way through batman origins retail.(and asylum...and city...but origins is the primary target for batman stuff. What do you mean by "the button prompts have the background outline or shape to them?" also, you didn't miss much for the audio :( it was just the game audio for the most part. I wanted to recapture the appearance of the demo as much as possible(fumbling aside) so I didn't say a lot. I could type up what I said if you want.

      @@kuriatsu as for the button prompts, look at the controls on the top right. They have rectangles to sort of outline them, as if they were subtitles if that makes any sense. The same effect can be seen when the game gives contextual button prompts (Press O to board, for example). Maybe it’s some kind of cut visual element they thought would look good?

      also, a very popular fact or statement said about the game is that the ai for wildlife is supposedly reused from kingdom in ac1, where wildlife was also planned. is there any truth whatsoever to this claim or is it just a myth said by an ubisoft dev?

      This build, is from August 26th 2012. This is considered to be a final with debug for purposes such as minor big testing as far as I am aware, as well as adding in launch dlc and multiplayer, such as the Benedict Arnold dlc. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the wildlife AI being used for kingdom :( sorry

    what is CTU in the final map with all the props? Also, are there any explicit mentions or leftovers from assassin's creed 3 since as far as i know a lot of the caribbean exploration was reworked into this game. great content as always!

      Thank you :) I put a lot of work into planning this video series, so it means a lot to me that people like it :) Being honest, I'm not 100% sure about CTU. Maybe Cinematic Timed objects(or a synonym that starts with U? Maybe Unit?) Those specific climbable props remind me of the Mayan ruins almost from the assassin settlement, so they may be related. I did not see any ac3 leftovers unfortunately. This is much too late in development for that sadly. The date of the build in the footage was either July or September 2013. Sorry :(

    11:15 I was waiting for this! (Although it is a bit eerie to see Edward walking across the ocean floor like a desolate wasteland in the Bird Bulk.) Also on the Old West idea (~17:20), I'm not a big fan of the period, but quite a lot of people have suggested it! It would be interesting to see something during the Gold Rush era. (No pun intended with the "Golden Age".) I do think it might be a bit too gun-heavy? Speaking of railroads and Syndicate as well, I was a bit disappointed they scrapped the side-missions with Ned in Syndicate. It would have been interesting for Assassins to work with an art/jewel thief. Anyway! I just recently found your channel but I've been binging them because I love seeing the development of these games. And I gotta say, I love AC3 stuff, so I certainly don't mind how you much you showed off from that either. (It was especially interesting to see the earlier Haytham & Ziio bits!) Thank you for another video ❤

      I'm glad that you are enjoying the videos :) Unfortunately, ac videos will be ending soon for the most part. I may make some videos here and there but by and large, I'm not sure what else I could cover that people would care about. However. I am expecting an xdk sooner or later, and there may be some more AC material. There are going to be some more videos for ac, but only up to December or so. Sorry :( I will absolutely be making more videos once I get a new computer, other things are onimusha 2 and 3, castlevania lords of shadows 1 and 2, character models in .hack g.u, and batman Arkham origins, among others.

    3:56 love the fact they used parappa's paper design to their advantage and had parappa turn the other way and teleport (or walk in his eye) in this concept art.
