Well done OB...I bought a cable from Ebay with CH340 type driver, no luck being able to connect to HRD with that, might build what you did..73's
Thanks for the demonstration!
You can eliminate all that by using an AOIC board a Rpi and a cheap Baofeng 20.00 dollar radio.
Really great from start to finish. Hope to hear you on air. HL1ZIX
Excellent instructional video I have been trying to build a shoort dipole in mmana had did not knbow how to add loading coils and calculate. this is the best video I have seen on using mmana-gl thank you sir. brilliant! 73.
It´s possible with IC706...????
Great technique! I like the way the antenna thinks you're part of it when you touch it! 😂 73 de 2E0HJN
Could you please clarify the following. 1] for the coil diameter -3/4 inch [ 19mm] diameter mentioned but the input in the calculator indicates 3.1cm? Also, the actual coil shown is closely wound, but calculator indicates imm gap between turns? Diameter of actual wire used is 2.5mm but calculator indicates 3mm?
Nice presentation. Very clear. Thanks!

I have not been able to get Droidstar to work. I'm not sure if it is a problem with my local install, or a problem with my phone model, or a problem with Droidstar edit: or a problem with the user end of the user interface. I will have to dive back in and give it another try. As far as I know, I had everything set up. I waited many days for my login to populate. But, I never could connect. Wish me luck; I'll use this video by the letter as best I can lol
Thank you
Hi I downloaded and installed. When I try to connect IC-718 it locks up the program. I'm using com2 at 9600 baud any ideas.
There are certain settings that need to be done in the IC718 also (like baud rate and device address). I hope you have done that as mentioned in the video. Also I hope you are using the correct cable. It's a simple setup really. Working fine at my end with windows 11. Please also make sure the address of your IC718 is 5E because that's what the software is looking for. I am sure you will figure it out. Many people are using it successfully.
@@AniruddhaBokilVU3FML Thanks for the quick reply, as soon as I hit the connect button it locks the program, I have to go to task manager to close it or restart pc. My PC is running Win11 using the Comport 2 at 9600 baud on a USB Serial Port cable with the FTDI Drivers. On the radio IC-718, CIV TRN is OFF, Using 5E and the baud rate of 9600. Your program com2 baud of 9600. Locks when I try to connect. Tried a second PC the same locksup, used the putty program cable is good. Yes its plugged in at rear of radio. Even did a radio reset. Maybe someone here had the same problem and can let me know. Anyway looks like a very cool program for the IC718 Thanks ve2xxm

VU3FML de VE7KKQ I have the same unit, I will try this out soon, I never knew about this feature, thank you for your video.
very good thank you !! just to make it clear; i thought if measure attenuation you only use the shield of the coax but you use shield and inner conductor..?! 2nd: if i use safer-software do i have to calibrate the vna device also or only load the calibration file from my pc which i have made with the calibration assistant? again thank you for reply!
Yes, to measure attenuation of common mode current choke, I shorted the inner conductor and shield on both ends. This is to simulate the common mode current since the current direction needs to be same in inner conductor and shield for it to be common mode. I had calibrated in the device and just read the data in nanovnasaver.
@@AniruddhaBokilVU3FML ok i understand, i will do the same as you from now on. thank you for quick reply, regards!!

after going half way thru, i get the error that "PLL not locked" in the sdr section (using a rtlsdr v4). after that the wxtoimg does not install any file at all on my win11 pro. very disappointing esp after going thru so many steps. dont you have a simpler solution using sdrangel or some other software! thanks

Hello Aniruddha , Thanks for this very informative video, when i divide the wire to 3 sections and try to make the middle wire as source , i dont get that menu option at all. how to do this ? Can you pls share this step?@aniruddha
Three ways of doing it: 1. If you are in wire editor, select the middle wire using the button " edit wire" which is on the left of "new wire" button by which you drew the antenna elements. You may have to zoom in first. The wire would turn red if selected. Then right click on that middle wire and select "add source". 2. If you are in "View" page. Zoom in and select the same wire. The wire would turn bold. Right click and select "add source". 3. If you select wire by above methods, you will get the wire number on right hand side columns. In "geometry" page under "sources" section enter w2c (if it is wire 2) and press enter. You will get source added to the center of middle wire.
@@AniruddhaBokilVU3FML Thank you for quick response , i did the first 2 steps ,sometimes i see the source option enabled othertimes its not visible , i will do the 3rd. Thanks a ton !! very good videos
You did a video about hooking the ICOM IC- 718 to the computer for FT-8 mode. Thank you. On that video I wish you had shown the face of the IC718 when you were talking about pushing the buttons on that radio. I have a special reason because the read out on my radio has deteriorated and some of the display items, I can no longer read so if you have the face of the radio on the instruction screen, it is a big help for me and I'm sure others. I have ordered the special patch cable connecting to the USB socket on the computer TO the back of the radio (mini phone socket. Jack is called Remote and here is the far right side socket looking at the back) from a vendor on EBay. probably know USB in ham radio means "upper sideband" And computer talking"USB" refers to the universal plug-in socket with the socket on the computer. I think we need to repeat that description as often as possible. Thanks very much for your instructional video.

Sir, can you pl suggest a power supply for uBITX which is portable (with battery storage so that it can be used outdoors without connecting to AC mains)
You can use a two wheeler battery (12v) , no power supply required.
Great video explaing things. Thanks. How do I model antennas?
Use MMANA software.....I have videos about it.
@@AniruddhaBokilVU3FML I got tired of the performance of my dipole. Made a QFH this weekend. Great signals even without an LNA.
Hi Aniruddha, myself Rini and a newbie here. I have following queries if you could answer. 1) If I want to elevate the antenna from 3 meter to 6 meter in height, where should I place the reflector? At 0.5 meter from antenna or at 1 meter? 2) Are both the legs of the reflectors connected to the antenna? If so, how.
1) Still 0.5m. 2)Both legs of reflector are electrically connected to each other.
Hello, this is VU3VMG, thanks for the videos! I am trying to model slim jim using this software for 2m band, but I am not getting proper SWR. Can you please tell how to attach source as the slim jim has two different points of connections, 1 for center core and 1 for shield of the coax? Please let me know if you tried!
You need to draw a wire between the matching element and the radiating element at suitable point and add a source at the centre of that wire.
@@AniruddhaBokilVU3FML Thanks for the reply! I made changes according to your input, now SWR came down to 2.1 but not reducing any further by changing the feed point location.
@@haroonsyedmohammed8430 Two ways u can do more: Manual way: find where you get lowest swr. Enter that frequency and calculate again. Then go to wire scale button and there enter the new frequency which is your desired frequency. Select all x,y and z, press ok. Now the software would have adjusted the element lengths to your desired frequency. Calculate again by entering your desired frequency and now you will get good swr at that frequency. Automatic way: At your desired frequency, Go Go to optimisation button and slide the swr bar all the way to right. Press ok. It will optimise the antenna parameters to match a better swr.
Today I tried again, not able to get proper SWR. The imaginary part of the antenna impedance is very high negative value. I tried different feed point locations, antenna dimensions etc. I then tried Jpole antenna as well. Optimisation is also not working. I am not sure if it's the software limitation or I am doing something wrong. You can try and post a video if it's working. Thanks. De Vu3vmg.
@@haroonsyedmohammed8430 ok I will make a video
Thanks sir. clear guide to understanding.
Great video! At 12:51, you can increase antenna height to get more gain toward horizon. Of course, it is easier to say than really attach antennas that high. Keep good work!
