I felt your pain! Our Canter was a snow plough so the chassis clean up was the same if not more time consuming. Had the same problem getting our duals off too - the inner nuts were reasonably easy but the inner and outer nuts wouldnt fully separate, so the wheels had to come off as pairs!

When thinking about the box layout, have you considered turning it around (slope at the rear)? If you have a large roof rack or storage box over the cab it won't make much difference to the aerodynamics. On my RB44 build I'm considering doing that, with a wind deflector/storage box over the cab. Being a bit of a geek I ran some CFD analyses on both slope at the front with no wind deflector and slope at the back with wind deflector. Slope at the back actually came out slightly better. In my case I want the bed at the rear so having reduced headroom over the back is less of a problem than having it at the front.

Honestly try picking up a can of Bulldog BDX. It’s an all in one lubricant and penetrant. Makes rusty bolts and things succumb with a little spray and soak. I bet those tipper rails weighed a fair amount.

Looking forward to watching this build, it’s something I’m thinking about for the future but maybe not in a Canter though (for reasons we discussed - limited support, limited 4x4 options etc). Can’t remember if you said, but have you seen True Blue Travellers on UA-cam? They convert a fridge box similar to yours, albeit on a Sprinter chassis. Can the chiller not be repurposed as air con? Will you reuse the exterior door -nit looks sturdy and well insulated? Don’t forget ear protection is a good idea when working with noisy tools, especially in a confined space..

I am in the planning stage of my overlander and this video is why, I want to go places others cannot any time of the year. There are tens of thousands of miles of National Forest (NF) roads in the US that are not maintained in winter and go to some truly amazing places with tremendous views. It will be great to go to some far reaching destination and enjoy it all alone in true peace and quiet.

No camping just the driving, at least there was no cooking!!!

That's given me a few ideas so some new locations next time I get over to Wales. I made it to Penmon & south stacks. I stayed the night at Penmon Lighthouse and it was great to wake up in a great location. I went over to South Stacks too for sunset but unfortunately it was too cloudy so I missed out on that. Maybe next time. Looking forward to seeing your many adventures 👍
