5 HABITS I Picked Up in SWEDEN That Only Swedes Will Understand! *am I turning Swedish?*
We've talked a lot about Swedish people, their traditions and customs over the past year on this channel, but today we're going to be digging into some of those giveaway signs that someone must be Swedish! How can you tell someone is Swedish during your first conversation with them? Are there certain behaviours, activities or customs to look out for that all Swedes do? Since this is going to be my last upload for a while, I decided why not dig into some of the customs and traditions I've learned to associate with Swedes. I guess you could call it the things I myself have begun to do that confuses all my English friends!

When you see Swedish movies in Netflix for example you dont get the impression that all Swedes are "stereotypical". They brake laws, cheat, booze up, and get into fights. Maybe all those movies are just wishful thinking of a lifesyle they would prefer. My son dates a Swedish girl and she was loud and feisty.

You are absolutely right about the costs for a "regular" haircut with no extras - it´s just insane! They charge as if it´s something extra... count on the hourly rate.... more than a car repair with all their costs for a garage, tools and computers!

Be careful not to generalize an entire country from the few friends you've met in your new Swedish town (is it Västerås? Like in mid-Sweden, Stockholm area?) I am not specifically talking about this video, it's just the impression I get from having watched a few of them. What you have experienced in your town doesn't necessarily translate to most of the country. There is actually quite a difference from the Samis in the north of Sweden to the Scanians in the south. Imagine me having spent some time in Scotland and now I tell people how most British people are fond of their bagpipes and haggis. Instead of telling the world how Swedes are, maybe you should talk about how you see people in your area of Sweden.

You don’t need to run or do anything like gym. If you don’t like coffee don’t drink it. What city do you live in? Yes I had a hard time with winter darkness. During winter sun, more daylight, starts around 8:30 to 9:00 and goes down around 15:00 to 16:00. During the summer the sun gives diwn around 22:00 and upp around 2:00. So I had problems sleeping att first when the sun came in the room making everything bryter. Yes swedes drinks a lot of coffee and eats a lot of candy. And those who like alcohol, beer, whisky etc, you will have to bye it in systembolagets shops. I will give you a tip. Speak slower so everyone can understand you. You seem hipper have you been drinking to much coffee? 😂All countries has some good and bad qualities. Take care 😊

Dane here. Interesting video but lot of the things you say are not correct. My corrections: 1. Languages are very similar. A Dane, Norwegian and Swedish person would be able to speak their native language and have the other person be able to understand it. It's so similar that some Swedish universities allow you to hand in your work in Danish despite the class being in Swedish. 2. Unpaid lunchbreaks exist in many jobs in Denmark too just like Sweden. 3. The freetown of Christiania is NOT an autonomous region. You claim they can do what they want and they are not under rules or regulations which couldn't be more incorrect. This is very misleading. The same laws applies for Christiania as the rest of Denmark and the Copenhagen Municipality governs them. 4. As for the happiness index it is simply not accurate. Many things don't work in Denmark as opposed to Sweden. Thoughty2 a very famous UA-camr did a great video on Denmark and the happiness report. It's called "The Happiest Country in the World is Hiding a Dark Secret". He explains really well why they score so high and how it is misleading.

You should visit smaller towns in each country to really feel the difference. You'll see the economic difference clearly. A small town in Denmark with, say, 5000 inhabitants has a lively shopping street, a big library with multifunctional purposes, a train station with trains departing at least twice an hour, several sporting facilities including indoor public swimming, and more. A similar town in Sweden would have a pizzeria, a secondhand shop, an ICA supermarket with local drunkards on the parking lot, and an outdoor football field, as well as a bus station with buses departing a few times a day.

Corporations are VERY quick to be punchable by saying that their employees.. "steal".. from them.. Anything that USED to be considered a perk of the job (like free pens) is now the equivalent to breaking in to the corporation at late night and run off with their computers. .and.. the same goes for. ."being late".. you come late repeatedly then they will add the numbers up when it comes to how much salary they would've payed you for those.. "three minutes every day for two months" and say that it is. "Theft". What corporations DON'T seem to understand is that THEY usually steal a SHITLOAD more from their employees.. They call us when we are NOT at work because they want to get a head start on some problem that will be next day (f.ex. someone who called in sick). .that is time that I am NOT employed NOT getting paid for. .and they are stealing from me.. Same goes for staying after closing hours or (worse) expecting that you'd even come in on weekends WITHOUT getting extra pay for it (NOT only a matter of the hourly wage, but in many jobs that SHOULD be overtime pay).. so.. no.. I do NOT understand how people THINK they are somehow doing something morally good and "prove" how "good workers" they are. .when they let the corporations steal from them. I have OFTEN been flexible. I have taught people things where I had NO obligation to teach them.. I have organized job when I did NOT have the salary of actually being in any form of managerial position. .hell, my LAST employer even REFUSED to give me the RIGHT salary and did his best to just pay me the lowest salary he thought he could get away with (I had a shitload of experience so I would be in the absolutely highest salary).. and. .he STILL just felt like.. me getting my fair wage was something he should try to skirt. .and THEN accuse me of stealing because.. I did my job CORRECTLY. so.. In Sweden we aren't "inflexible". but seriously.. to actually quit doing your job when your employer refuse to pay you any more is literally the RIGHT thing to do and people who accept anything else are weak-minded people who do WRONG.. I don't know HOW people find any form of "pride" in working for freel. you are harming society, and you are accepting being a slave.. that is NOT a sign of strength or morality.. quite the opposite.

BUT having gained a bit of a perspective - I AM AWARE that both my lovely little town and SWEDEN has BOTH Pros and Cons! I would LOVE TO be your GUIDE to the MALMÖ/Swedish psyche and mentality! And/or being a resource and "Sounding board". I am retired so I call myself a "time millionaire"… SO I would love to be of help and perhaps I can be of use and helpful! Also I have a GOOD network of Expat friends that live in the Malmö/Copenhagen area! I myself have considered moving abroad to become more of a Polyglot and Polymath! PLEASE feel free to contact me! As a foreigner, I see one particular drawback in terms of "not pretending that you're better than anyone else" plus your current progressive tax rates. There are some domains/fields of knowledge, where you MUST be better than anyone else and work HARDER than anyone else to develop yourself up to a desired level. Thus you need to be encouraged to achieve the superiority. E.g. to become a Chief Engineer / Solution Architect you have to do better than a regular engineer. This might not be true, yet from what i've heard, people tend to stop their learning and to stop their progress because of two reasons: 1) they wont be compensated enough for their efforts 2) even if they do, they gonna feel shame for their achievements.

Well stockholm mentality is not typical swedish mentality. Just goto Norrtälje in the stockholm region and you will find that is more close to british mentality! Stockholm is the worst example in fact. Swedes are negative, afraid of conflicts and in general has no temper. In Rimbo 56 km you will discover how direct people are compared with stockholm in general. I will dare you to come here and you will see?

Christiania (that "no rule area" you mention) is in deep crisis as it is de facto taken over by drug gangs. Christiania might have contributed to someone getting stoned by the drugs bought there, but has never been a contributor to Danish happiness. On the contrary a lot of us have been pissed by them being allowed to just claim the area and be a parasite. But anyway the dream is over now and they are crying for help from the Police and surrounding society. If you look for reasons for happiness it would rather be the Danish combination of mutual trust and being laid-back - plus being quite outspoken, bordering to being rude. Sweden is not totally different, but is a tad more German. I.e. being much more cautious about what you really mean, and focus is always on being very polite - that will say until a sufficient amount of alcohol has been consumed, then they say/do things that even will have a Dane blush. Swedes/Germans usually are quite formal too, and take rules very serious, and as soon as you see a new problem you imediately invent a new rule - and expect that everybody, just like yourself, will start right away to look for loopholes. In Denmark we more take rules as a guideline, but God have mercy on the poor soul that can't behave without reading a rule! Anyway I love my Swedish brothers and sisters - in the end we are far more alike than different, and I find it an independent source of happiness that in these days the Nordic peoples have for the first time in history voluntarily become members of the same alliance - even the right one!

egg cooker is weird... I'm swedish and i have never even heard of an egg cooker before... everyone except one in my extended family are swedish and they live in different parts of the country (none live in the norther third of the country though). It seems like just making something simple very complicated. My parents and also my brother even have their own chickens and get their own eggs and my brother even sells his eggs so he talks about eggs a lot and i've never even heard him ever mention such a thing.

i'm swedish and i don't know anyone who has an actual sodastream but i know many who have other generic brand water carbonizers, my father drinks this fizzy water every day... i mostly get hydrated by tea so i don't own one... and i don't like carbonated water that much, I like some sodas and i like making doogh (yoghurt and chopped mint and salt with fizzy water), but then i just fill up a few bottles of fizzy water when i visit my parents and have it for making doogh.
