NIKON D6 a GIANT STEP ABOVE THE D3S - The last Nikon Pro DSLR
As you know I sold my D3S one month ago and I told you I had a D6 to replace it since more than one year.
it was time to let the D3S go and today I present you some reasons why I consider the D6 as a giant step above the D3S.
Not saying D3, D3S, D700 were bad cameras... just saying the D6 is so so better in every considerations.
let's check tis together in this new episode.

Hi Didier, thank you for making this video. When shooting when there's plenty of light, do you notice a difference b/w D6 and D3S? I think where the D6 shines is shooting in very low light and not missing a shot in sports or wildlife photography. Also, the eye autofocus is a good improvement for moving subjects. But even a 10 year old Fuji mirorless that costs a lot less than the D6 does eye autofocus and costs much less than the used D6. If the D6 costs below 1,000 USD, I'd go for it. D3S and used Fuji mirrorless won't break the bank. I do appreciate your inputs though. I love your content.

@@RvSun thanks for your comment and your appreciation The D6 has much more than the low light capacity compared to the D3S. It’s so fast and improved in all perspectives but the D3S remains a very good camera. So good that I bought another after selling mine 🤣 Regarding the eye tracking, you have to take in consideration that it is a DSLR and not a mirror less camera. That’s why it’s so unique ! You have the brightness of an OVF with eye tracking.. Enjoy photography and stay tuned 😉

For now I only have the 18mm and I sometimes use the 35mm APO SUMMICRON SL but it’s a little big for this body. I remember the 35 1.4 TL is amazing and as pleasing as the 50 1.4 SL on the SL body

@@DidierMOULINPhotography I have a wide array of lenses I use, I found that the L-Mount is crazy adaptable. So I use all kinds of old relatively cheap glass. I also have three actual L-Mount lenses. I have the 18mm and the Leica Apo-Macro-Elmarit-TL 2,8/60mm, the latter is an amazing lens but quite big and cluncky. I mainly use manual focus lenses and right now that is the TTArtisan C 35mm F/0.95 and the Konica Hexanon AR 57mm f1.2. Both have a very wide aperture and you can do crazy stuff with them and during normal light they are pretty easy to use if you stop them down a bit and do some street photography (which is what I really enjoy). It is a very pleasant photowalk camera that let's you focus on the photo and the process and not so much on the camera it self. I use the evf a lot ande while I am looking through the evf I can control my Shutter, Aperture, ISO and I can zoom in to check if everything is sharp, it is just me and whatever captured my attention.

Except AUTO ISO doesn’t always work that way. If you set minimum shutter speed and maximum ISO and the exposure still needs light it will go beyond what you have set as minimum shutter and use an even slower shutter speed to ultimately get the proper exposure. Spectacular image quality and good speed. The 105 f2.5 which you mentioned. I have the last version of this before it went Ai. This version has more rounded aperture blades. Very good lens. I have others but Nikon excel at longer focal lengths compared to other makes. I would like to buy a newer Nikon camera and then I can adapt some of these autofocus lenses but not much in the way of good value second hand mirrorless Nikons at the moment. @@DidierMOULINPhotography I tried an S5II yesterday. It's very good but much more expensive than an S1. The size of the S1 concerns me a bit and if you want VLog you have to buy an update but even then, it's still ridiculously cheap. One thing I love on the S1 models is that EVF. What I don't want is a Sony. I've had problems with them and my Sony is now totally broken. I have to buy a camera soon but I'm still not sure which one. An S1 would give me a camera for the moment at cheap price. Ideally I would like to go Nikon because apparently their adapter works really well with older mount autofocus lenses. I don't have any of those but I know many of them are great and a good buy second hand. The Zf is appearing second hand now. I though that was great. I tried one but I'm not sure about the retro style and ergonomics. Have you ever noticed any moire problems with the S1? I know you concentrate on photography but obviously you do youtube videos. The S1H has an AA filter so should not have moire problems but it is even bigger. I'm thinking to separate video and photography so I can have a much smaller photography camera. I don't like the idea of taking any of the S1 range out for landscapes for example and they wouldn't be discreet for any street photography. I don't think it will be too long before all the cameras have great autofocus and IBIS but it's still a bit limited if you are buying second hand.

Second hand Nikons would be great except for the fact that Nikon have been years behind with mirrorless so second hand options are not great. Some people have found that using an adapter with electronic contact but non electronic lens attached causes the eye detection to work but then stabilization is not working. It doesn't work with Nikon's own adapter either. It will work with a newer manual lens like say a Voigtlander which has electronic communication. A great thing to do is buy old manual lenses. I've been doing this for many years. I have some very good lenses some of which are over 70 years old. Obviously Leica lenses are good but expensive. Schneider Krueznach, early preset and auto Takumars, Nikons and Zeiss are great. The worst buys are Sony cameras or at least the larger full frame ones. Wonderful video - refreshed my mind on many things, and showed me things I was not aware of. I bought my D3 from B&H Photo, from the first shipment to them, and I've owned it ever since. I started using newer Nikons (D750, D780) but I still had my D3 (along with my earlier D2x). Are you still using your D3s ? I see you have an INFO button, that my D3 lacs. Anyway, thank you for making this video. VERY useful!!!!

6:16 ….if I don’t consider the technical details, my D3 is one of my favorite cameras, all the controls are quickly available, and everything I might want, only the INFO button is missing. I wish it had 24 megapixels but as long as I fill the screen, it has more than enough. My D780 is “better” in many ways, but the D3 becomes part of me, maybe from so much use/experience. Why would you want a D3 again if you own a D6 ? I would like to buy a D5 or D6, but other than more megapixels, I’m not sure why I need one. I bounce one of the first 10 D3 cameras sent to B&H when the D3 was released. So by now it is a part of me. I guess I should check what firmware updates may have been released?

"Oh! Ship"...LOL! Great capture and print production. I still shoot with many of my old digital CCD cameras, some with only 2 or 3-megapixels as they have so much character and are just fun to use and they can start conversations with other photographers on the trail or street, and the camera curious public. Some of these cameras are approaching a quarter century and back in the day we didn't think they would hold up near that long, but surprise... they are still here and still produce great pixs just like my near 70- year old homemade wood Pinhole camera I built as a kid.
