Balance is a massive part of skiing and your arm position really makes a difference.
Very useful series Darren, extremely well made videos and very high definition. You almost nailed this at 3:12 to 3:20 in the Video but it is still a little vague. Might I suggest: ua-cam.com/video/1mCdMezMypE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared. Just gives the skier a definite point of reference & I found that the "exaggeration" works wonders, but that just might be me. All the best.
Darren, I’m trying to rid myself of the dead spot in transition that you mentioned is a common problem with good skiers. I’m puzzled by what the causes are of this interruption in flow. FYI - I enjoy, with the focus on balance and flow, the “zen” to this series of videos. //Marshall
I’m absolutely thrilled to see you’ve started another series, Darren! I’m a L2 ski instructor in Canada, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve recommended your earlier series with Elate/SKNG to my clients, because the stuff in that series is just top notch-after all, it helped me get from absolute beginner to where I am now. I expect even greater things to come! (From you at least, and hopefully from myself too) ;-)
I often relax on the flat and let hands drop a bit but when its game on I get them out front.. great advice.
Good stuff!
Hello. I have a question. When I am making parallel turns, should my body facing downhill along with the fall line and looking down the fall line regardless of the direction of travel of my skis (as it is making the S turn)? Or should I align my body and eyes with the skis and where the ski is going in that moment?
Great info ! Cheers 👍And nice footage / edits etc
Glad you enjoyed it
Just actually say something! You talk about fundamentals but never get to the fucking fundamentals
Thank you
You're welcome
I have this issue of looking down, even when walking, so I’ve been working on maintaining posture and eyesight up. Thanks for the tips.
You're so welcome!
That was a funny finish to the video that also resonated 😂
Thanks Gman
Really excellent content and production. I just know most of my failings will dissappear tomorrow...😅
Let me know how it goes. Hope it works.
Thanks for all your new (and earlier) vid’s: so much valuable info! Found this new series during my skiing holiday and they help me focus on the important bits of technique and keep on improving my skills. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks 👌👌
The OG of skiing lessons. Thanks for making this channel, buddy.
👍👍👍👍thanks
I watched your old videos every beginning of ski season and always learnt something new. Thank you so much and very excited to watch your new videos!
Great to hear!
“Mr or Mrs Viagra” 😂😂😂
Don't be too stiff😂😂😂
Like they wouldn't trust Nature. Like they wouldn't trust flow.
exactly
Also the state always must do something as the things wouldn't be clear enough. Around children
I was waiting for your series Darren. Thanks a ton. 🎉
Hope you enjoyed it!
This is a great lesson... thank you... only my second day... It's a tough one... being older and heavier... the kids are amazing.... why?! Haha
Hope it helped
These instructional videos are fantastic. Really useful tips. Unless you are a true expert you can learn something here. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
On my way to ski vacation in Austria, watching your video's again and again. Great tips. Thank you!
Very welcome
Never knew this. From now on, hands in front 👌
👌👌👌👌
Summary; Right body position: Have the right body position: - soft and relaxed ankles - knees flexed and supple - hips flexed with slightly rounded back Stay over your feet. (Don’t lean too much forward!) Usually slightly more forward at start of turn.
👌👍✌️
Look down the slope. Very excited to implement this first thing tomorrow!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@DarrenTurnerSkiing I did! It was so awesome, I went from beginner having trouble on blue to easily going down red slopes and even blacks (not so easy) partly because of your videos in the two weeks I was in Austria! I noted all your tips down and when I was on the lift I read my notes, picked one tip and tried applying it. Did it all day for a few days. Especially the looking down the slope tip helped me, but also the don’t lean to much forward (just center) and be flexible. Things just clicked. Now feeling like I’m hitting a plateau tho. I’m not really comfortable on rough terrain with huge bumps (moguls?) in it, and I have no idea yet how to ever learn that! Seems impossible😅
How to slow down?
As a ski and bike instructor, I fully concur, especially the not looking down at your material (skis or bike). I usually tell the pupils their skis or bikes are with them all the time, so no need te check...😅
👌👌👌👌
Hi D.T., this is the most helpful video for me to correct my skiing mistakes, thank you so much!!!
You're so welcome!
Useless video, no instructions - waisted time!!!
Thank you! ⛷️
You’re welcome 😊
Hi Darren! Happy to hear from you! Great advice on eyes up! ❤ To support the channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
great skiing
Thank you so much
One of the best course ❤ watch it after 6yr of ski to learn, instant improvement, never engouh 🎉
Glad you enjoy it!
The legend is back!!! I still remember back in 2014 how I devoured the SKNG Ski School videos in a Reno hotel room, the night before my FIRST day on snow! This year I started skiing black runs with confidence. Thank you Thank you Thank you! P.S: People may think I haven't made much progress in these 10 years. Well, actually, I only really skied in 2014 and 2024. LOL. Life happened in between.
Thanks for the feedback
How to overvome fear on more steep hills? Red and black slopes? Any hints Guys? Ps. Your menthal advices looks really good. Never thought this way. Thnx
is that menthol or mental 😂
Hey, What model of boots and skis did you wear when you recording this video? :)
Very poor instructions. A lot of mistakes in his statements. You don’t push on the skis, you support yourself. ..
@natvlash You are wrong, it’s excellent instruction for those who are at a high enough skill level level to understand it. Someday you may get to this point, but don’t criticize when you’re not qualified to do so.
No, it’s very good advice actually. Just not for beginners. Eventually you’ll get better and then be able to understand it, but I doubt it.
This video really, really helped me. Thank you!
I'm so glad!
I love your nomenclature! Words are so important in teaching. Comprehension from the students is based on comprehension. Your handle of the English language and best using of words are great and directly in line for movements and concepts of skiing. Great videos and very inspiring for me as an instructor in Canada.
Wow, thank you!
Love your intro! The secret of best skiing, there ain’t one! Great intro!
Thanks so much!
Just on a skiing trip in Val Disere, Watched this video and "implemented" the eyes method... Whilst skiing today - It really made a big difference - Thank you DT.
Fantastic!
Great stuff Darren. I took an advanced ski lesson earlier this week and it’s refreshing to see a lot of the same concepts in these videos. Will definitely come back here to reinforce those principles. Looking forward to your new material.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm starting to ski moguls! Boy are they fun. What you said about intimidationngkt me thinking. Mentally, I wouldn't consider myself intimidated as I am confident, yet your words got me thinking about rushing the turn. In the bumps, you tend to have a much more definite line choice and precise turn locations. I think this had led me to rush the turn because I dont want to miss it and lose my line? Fall? I guess I'm not sure. Regardless I think i might be rushing turns. It seems like a good idea to practice short turns on a groomed run with an emphasis on making them smooth rather than just fast! My intuition tells me that it is less of an ability issue and more of a mindset issue, and that a but of practice will change my approach to the situation
Experiment and practice..
Absolutely the best sko instructor! I became a huge fan of all his videos. The way he is learning is so aproachable! I’m gratefull for that! ❤️⛷️
Thanks 🙏 🤩
I am new to skiing and learned much from your fundamental videos. As a result, I improved my balance on the slopes and started doing much better. Thanks a lot for sharing
Very pleased it helped👍👍👍
Earned yourself a subscriber. Thankyou!
👌👌👌
He’s back!!!!!! Omg you’re the best ski instructor on UA-cam
Thanks so much
Great video, thanks! Have been using your previous videos as a "prep" every year before we head out for our one trip. Thanks for excellent instruction!
Glad you like them!
THIS GUY IS THE BEST INSTRUCTOR, I AM LEARNING AT THE MOMENT AND ALL HIS MATERIAL WORKS A DREAM
I don’t think so! To much bla bla bla!
That’s why English guys never ever will be excellent in skiing! They are are always making only bla bla bla, not presenting clear instructions or solutions… I can not hear this new non consent bulb blubber blurb
Thanks very much. Glad it helped.
This video series with "phrases" approach are easy to implement during skiing. Very easy to remember "See the light", "Hands in front", "Don't be mr Viagra" etc. It really improved my skiing, for first time I was sometimes driving the skies instead being the passenger trying to catch up. Amazing feeling with less muscle pain! Still alot of exercising to do, but improving on each slope! Thanks for sharing this amazing series!
Thanks so much for the amazing comment👌
Amazing series! Helps me a lot ❤
Glad you enjoy it!
