Exploring the US northeast while living in a van.
Erie Canal Road Trip
I spent a weekend exploring the entire 363 mile length of the historic Eerie Canal, from east to west, with stops at its most spectacular locks, irregularities, and I even took a boat cruise on it!

Visiting Every King Philip's Rock in New England
Переглядів 30314 днів тому
There are ten rocks, caves, and overlooks in New England named after King Philip - also known as Metacomet - the Wampanoag chief who waged war against England in a last ditch attempt to save the New World from becoming an English Empire. I visited all of them, in the order he did from 1675 to 1676, and in doing so followed the last year of his life. Each one is a beautiful place and tells a fas...

Five Van Life Things I Wish I Never Bought
Loved the video. Subbed
New subscriber here in Massachusetts. You're very easy to listen to..First video I've watched.
get rid of the disco lights !!!
Great video!
Thanks 🙏
So much of this reminded me of the Hudson River School of painting, which makes sense because this is where it originated. Thanks for showing me the real life version of their inspiration! You really do a great job with your little tours for us and I know we appreciate it so much. (Loved that "hour and forty-five minutes" foraging diversion comment, LOL! Those grapes looked insanely delicious!) That sunset was spectacular! ❣
Thanks for watching! I never tire of the landscapes of upstate NY. I still haven’t explored the 1000 islands region yet, but I will!
“Clinton’s Ditch” I seem to recall named after the person responsible for it in part.
Dewitt Clinton! Governor of NY during the construction 🦺
The canal is the border between North Tonawanda and the City of Tonawanda. Originally the canal went all the way to Buffalo but they filled it in in the 1930s due to disuse because of railroad traffic taking over. I've climbed and dove off that swing bridge long ago. Also off the bridge over Delaware Avenue.
Same on the eastern end, it originally went to Albany, but they filled most of that in
awesome video
Thanks for the visit
Love this!!
Thanks - It was a ton of fun!
I love American history and I really enjoy your videos
Thanks!
Erie canal
😂 Fixed - thanks!
I live in Asheville NC. Enough said 😊 views, good people, food, weather is perfect right now
Will stop there 👍

Love Skinny Puppy!!

If you see police cars it should tell you their there to pickup a shoplifter
Why not just call and ask if they accept discreet overnight parking? I do. Most tell me which part of the lot they’d like me in. (It does vary once in a while.) Some locations even ask what brand my vehicle is, and what state issued my plate. They’ll give that info to security so they’ll make sure I’m ok. I’m not a Vanlifer but I am on the road a lot for my job. I’ve used that method above for probably 20 years with no issue. Yet.
Because they might say no, then what are you gonna do?
@@undertheradarvan I look other places. (e.g. Bass Pro, casinos, Cracker Barrel, etc.)
I really enjoyed your video!
Thanks
Loving your videos man. Keep grinding and killing it bro. Super underrated youtuber
🫵
Florida is full of fun stuff and oodles of birds and flowers. You will enjoy it much more if you come in late October!
Sounds like paradise
can anyone really claim, " stealth" these days?
Great video, I appreciate you sharing your journey with van life and especially all the cool places you take us along. The disco ball is cool
Glad you appreciate the disco ball 🪩
Pro tip- Find a Best Buy then park next the Geek Squad vans. That’s where I spend the night when in the city
i am officially as of today, 1 week in to full time van life. im already finding myself not knowing where to go or what to do. flagstaff az is great but it still gets over 80 in the day, and 5 minutes ago some strange old man was walking around my van out in the woods. i popped out with my pistol and he asked me if i wanted a spatula.........he was scoping me out. i need to move. idk where to go. i have enough savings to last me a little while but the freedom oddly, has me stuck. cheers. idk why i shared all this
The paralysis of limitless options. Good luck with your new life, you'll settle into a rhythm!
I don't love disco (well, maybe just a little) but I love your disco ball light. Also, take your sweet time coming to South Florida. The heat and humidity is at its maximum until November. Even then, it may be a sweaty affair. The black coloring of the Death Star may be a factor, too. (Yes, I'm going to keep letting everybody know your van was originally named, "The Death Star." Perhaps, you could assuage me by renaming it, "Dark Star." That would be exotic and astronomical without all the bad press of the infamous Star Wars planet destroying spaceship.)
Aren’t we glad he’s stayn’ alive 🕺🏻
$15 now? Monadnock is my closest hike but I usually go from the campground. Cheers!
I could get a campground for $17!
Yes. Ours is Northlake in the Catskills. I just saw your sticker. We ski hunter mountain so we are in that area all year round. Our last two mountain hikes were out of Northlake. It was only 5 days ago and I miss it.
LOVE north-south lake!
Check out the Devil's Millhopper trail in Gainesville.
Will do thanks!
Smoky Mountain National Forest is exceptional for hiking, backpacking, and camping. Nantahala Outdoor Center near the borders of North and South Carolina is a world class river rafting and adventure company that does tours if that's of interest as well. I did a river rafting trip with them back in 2005 but when I just looked them up I discovered they're doing a lot more now. National Geographic Adventure has also called them "One of the Best Outfitters on Earth," so there's that. I don't know if you've already been to the Smokies, but I would definitely return. Florida isn't a place I would want to be this early in the year, but I know some people are there year around, LOL, so to each their own. If you can catch a launch at NASA, that would be cool. Whatever you do, I'm sure it'll be fun. I anticipate sharing your trip vicariously. Oru makes incredible carbon fiber foldable kayaks that people rave about. They're lightweight and fold very small. They also have the advantage of not needing to be inflated. ;-) Gorgeous sunset! Thanks for sharing!
I love the smokies, its actually the only place I've ever gotten a tap on my window in the night and asked to move lol
Very nice. Covered a lot again. That red flower by the wetland is a cardinal flower. And Groton (pronounced grawwwten) was emptied of settlers during King Phillip's War, btw. LOL. Doncha miss me? It's miss know it all! Good choice not to stay overnight where you were that last night on the Nashua. I boycott the fifteen dollar fee for Monadnock. Probably my loss. Anyway. Thanks for the video. Hi to Boston for me.
That cardinal flower is beautiful - thanks for naming it for us!
Glad to hear from you again Bonnie! I really need to explore the nashua river more!
Awesome Adventures and I look forward to seeing more. Eric
thanks
How often does someone tell you that you look like Rob Lowe?
Pretty sure you’re the first
Next time, try hospital parking lots...or casino parking lots.... or college dormitory parking lots... ..
"this party might shut down very quickly" LOL loved that. nice video thank you for sharing.
Actually my man you can see a bit of light when you were moving left to right across the front of the van you saw red lighting
Just go up to the cops and ASK THEM! Don’t overdramatize the whole thing!
They will invariably say no.
Nice little park you were at that you could cook your food on a nice big fire. I don't know if you waited for the food to cool before putting it in the bags as it's hard to tell but if you need the pan quickly put your food in a bowl to cool then place food in the bags. This way your bags don't melt and you can continue to use your pans.
It cools in my sink with the baggies partly open for about a half hour, then goes in the fridge
Also a good place to park is at big hotel chains because they don't really check parking and you can use the restroom nice and clean hotel lobby R/R
Great video as always very entertaining and informative and educational. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks dude
Why would you buy clothes like that from Walmart when you can get often cheaper but higher quality at Outlets? Honest question
The short and pants were $9 each. What outlets has them cheaper?
@@undertheradarvan Bealls, Burlington, Ross and even Premium Outlets if you have some luck.
First time here... Question.. WHY... do you cook 8 meals in one day? I can see the fact to save money. But I dont understand why. Again.... First time here.
7 meals. To free up time and save money.
You're not stealth if I can see your van. You're just visibly camped in a parking lot hoping you're invisible. You see a van like yours in a Wal Mart parking lot, we know you're in there.
Stealth does not mean having a literally invisible vehicle. It means drawing as little attention to yourself as possible. And definitely no negative attention.
Very nice . If they knock though I'd answer. Sometimes they get the tow trucks out . Good video my friend
From 6:13 to 6:21 I saw the red light show through the far edge of the passenger side of the van then as you walk around I see the red light at the top of the van. This is the part where you were showing that the blackout curtain blocks any light from coming through outside the van. Enjoyed the content and will be watching. Take care
You can make fire starters with dryer lint. Way to persevere the weather and keep working out your meal prep.
I don’t have a dryer in my van lol
Wow, that's a lotta onions. You might want to get a mandarin or chopper type tool for that job. It would also make quick work of your carrots, celery, potatoes etc.
Definitely need some chopping aid
Where to sleep is the easy part. I sleep in industrial areas or by apartment buildings. As long as you stay in your van and don’t bring attention to yourself, you’ll be fine. And leave in the morning.
Ive slept in apt complex parking lots yrs ago. Left very early
This is the way 👌
A deep wooded spoon, check weather forecast first lol good luck stay safe ❤
Yes! Thank you!
Good job with your "Stealth" Camping.. You had fun making this video and I enjoyed watching it..😀
I think you are overthinking it bro. I don't think Walmart is too worried about van lifers as long as you don't tie up the parking lot in peak hours.
Depends on where you are located. In MA most of the Walmarts have active security and boot people nightly. It’s far more hospitable in the Midwest by comparison. I prefer to err on the side of knowing I won’t get a midnight knock because I value peace of mind too much.
