      Oh yeah! It would be great to open the rear bonnet and make at least part of the engine visible 😀. Or... you could create a diorama with the car standing in the paddock and the engine next to it 😀. Did you order the detail-up set as well?

    Thank you for sharing this excellent video on UA-cam: 👍👌👏! This model is very popular in scale slot car racing as it is very wide, probably too much so. All my 917 Fujimi bodies were askew to a different degree. Glueing the top and bottom body parts together before painting and mounting the chassis helped a lot 😊.

    • @AdHocCars
      @AdHocCars 2 дні тому

      Thanks a lot!! 💪 I didn't know that they can be compatible, for sure not plug'n'play, but I'm surprised that it is popular to convert kits into slot cars. Actually, I have some old Carrera Uni 132 slot cars like the Porsche 935 or BMW. 😀 They don't work for sure, but maybe one day I will do some video about renovating them. 😀 The slot car body seems to be more durable compared to plastic kits. Is it then easier to brake during racing?

    Nice work by you❤, but it's a shame that Tamiya made such bad models of both 959 and 961... Unfortunately, they are so wrong that I never started building these when I bought them in the 1990s. I had the opportunity to do a direct comparison with both a real white and a red 959 and was very disappointed.😮 And in 961 there were only pictures but it wasn't good either.... So these are not something I would recommend. These were not made with 3D photography like today's models, hence the large inaccuracies

    • @AdHocCars
      @AdHocCars 3 дні тому

      Thanks a lot! :D Agree, many times the pictures on the boxes are not accurate when compared to either the real car or even the kit inside. I really like this 959 as it brought me quite a lot of fun to build it. There were no issues with the assembly and everything fits perfectly. Have you seen the latest news that Tamiya is going to release a brand new kit of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS? There are rumors that it will be available this year!

      Thank you for your kind words! The Fujimi kits definitely have their quirks, but they really do bring out the beauty of classic cars like the 917! I wonder whether new Fujimi kits are equally challenging... Have you had a chance to build some new ones? :)

    A question, if I may: I am not used to Tamiya acrylic paints. I find that they dry "soft" compared with enamels which dry hard. With Tamiya acrylics, are you supposed to then apply layers of clear coat to protect the underlying paint before polishing and buffing? I've tried polishing the paint directly with the result in one place down to the undercoat which I won't bother trying to fix.

    • @AdHocCars
      @AdHocCars 13 днів тому

      Hi John, sure! I'm happy to answer. :) When it comes to acrylic paints, I cover them with a clear coat only when applied to the car body. If I paint other parts with them, I don't take this additional step. I've read some tips that it's always better to cover them with a clear coat as it protects the paint better from dust or fading, but I don't find it a must-have since I don't build roadsters that dust can easily lie on the seats. Also, I don't find it necessary to cover the chassis parts with a clear coat. When it comes to the car body, I always apply a clear coat. That clear coat fills the uneven surface of the base color, and with polishing afterward, you can achieve a really nice glossy finish. 😀 Actually, I haven't heard of the approach of not covering the base color with the clear coat (regardless of the type of base color), but it might be that I'm missing some knowledge as well. :)

      Odpalilem niepublikowane fragmenty na których widać moją nierówną walkę z tymi lampami. Mozesz sprobowac na dwa sposoby, albo pomalowac ten pierscien z zewnątrz albo od wewnatrz. Wybralem malowanie od wewnatrz gdy poległem przy pierwszej opcji. Przy malowaniu od wewnatrz wystarczy ze w miare dokladnie zamaskujesz samą płaszczyzne reflektora od srodka oraz dodatkowo jego niemalowana krawdz np. za pomoca pattafixu, ktorego zwałkujesz i rozlozysz po krzywiznie lub najpierw przykleisz fragment tasmy, ktory potem natniesz po krawedziach nozykiem tak jak przy maskowaniu szyb. Nadlewki mozesz wyprostowac potem zmywaczem do akryli. Oczywiscie lampe wtedy nalezy zamaskowac od zewnatrz tez, ale to juz jest o wiele latwiejsze :)

    • @Chris_Kokkalis
      @Chris_Kokkalis 16 днів тому

      @@AdHocCars Its fair to like this car! I personally chose to paint it with the "speed yellow" which i think is the most popular, since it is the one on the cover of the box(its pretty decent). However if i had seen your video before i had started that project, i would have painted it at this beautiful color in which you painted yours for sure (or something similar). By the way i painted the body with a spray can (two layers of gray primer and one layer of the paint) and i think that this was not supposed to be a thing😅. But that doesnt mean that im not serious about the project overally, i always try to give as much attention to the details as possible, its just that i dont have money to buy the equipment you have to paint it nice and smoothly. My next project will probably be a papercraft model (you know, using templates). I know it may sound kind of ridiculous but thats what i do when i dont have any saved money left for such kits, i still go to high school😂. So anyway im planning to buy a cerrera gt for Christmas i think its from revel. I will keep you updated if you want.😁 (P.s. sorry for yapping so much, its just that i love this hobby a lot its a passion for me and its one of the only things that make me escape reality.)

    • @AdHocCars
      @AdHocCars 12 днів тому

      Hi Chris! Actually, it's weird. When we're young, we don't have enough money to spend on our hobbies, but we do have enough time that we could spend on them. Then, when we're adults, we have money, but we don't have so much spare time. 😂 There's something wrong with this world order for sure! I really like your plan! Christmas is a perfect time to buy yourself a present or... to ask Santa for it! 😀 I agree, tools can help with achieving better results, and some tasks will be easier for sure, but you can still have fun with paint cans and experiment with them. And this is what a hobby should be for: to have fun! :) Keep your projects and go back to them once you save money for an airbrush! I was told at a hobby shop that I should start with an airbrush as it's much cheaper in terms of the cost of paint. So the entry point is expensive, but it pays back with cheaper paint, as a small jar of Tamiya paint is a lot cheaper than a Tamiya can. :) And I follow this advice. 😀 it all depends how long would you like to have fun with scale modeling 😀

      I used to glue windows with Micro Kristal Klear and got really nice results, as you have enough time to position the window and wipe off the excess glue with water. Then I switched to CA glue and accidentally spilled it on the window. It didn't frost it, but the only way I could fix it was to sand it down. I used BSI Super Gold Plus, which is odorless and foam-safe. It is really great, but due to the nature of CA glue, I will probably stick to Micro Kristal Klear😀

      Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked the blend of Japanese heritage with the Castrol livery. It was a fun project, and I'm especially pleased with how the weathered tires and exhaust pipes turned out. The black in the body lines was definitely worth applying. I thought about using grey in the body lines as I was afraid that black would be too eye-catching, but it turned out pretty nice. Next, I'm planning to work on a Revell Porsche 356 model kit with some LEDs! I will put my effort into the electrical area, then focus on the livery. I hope it will be fun to watch as well! At that time, I couldn't find any in stock at a reasonable price. After your question, I started looking again, and there aren't many to choose from. Most of them are discontinued, out of stock, or just a bit too expensive. Great work! Oh, I've had decals peel off before too. But you didn't give up. That's amazing! One of the things I like about your work is filling in holes. It was fun to watch you carefully fill in the depressions in the hood. By the way, does your painting environment produce any dust? My painting environment produces an incredible amount of dust, so it's difficult to apply a glossy paint job.

    • @AdHocCars
      @AdHocCars 2 місяці тому

      Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one who experienced this. 🙃 Actually, I didn't have any other idea on how to fill those gaps that were initially planned for air vents. I took a PLA sheet, measured, and cut off two pieces, then tried to fit them. The thing I would change, probably, would be the putty. Next time, I would go for epoxy since the regular one shrinks a lot! I needed to apply it a couple of times to get the correct smoothness, and even after many layers, it's not perfect, so you can still see the edges... but lesson learned. 😀 I have a lot of issues with dust in the spray booth! I tried spraying the interior with water, then moistening paper towels, and vacuuming the filter... it's actually impossible to get rid of it. 🫣 I've seen some spray booths with a water cascade. Maybe that would do the job, but... they're a bit expensive. 😀

    I have just found your channel, I have to say that I probably wouldn't have looked at your channel with out your build up of the beautiful 442. That got my attention just seeing the thumbnail. Watching you go though the painting process with the added info on mixing and products used, really is appreciated. I've been a life long modeler, but I'm still learning at age 65, I hope you will build many more American muscle cars from that wonderful era in automotive history. Your Porsche builds are amazing as well, but we just don't see that many on this side of the pond. There are so many great kits being offered of muscle cars now, using your talents to bring them to life would be well worth watching to learn. The muscle car era started in the USA in the early 60's with the Pontiac GTO for 1964. Big block engines in (at that time) mid-sized cars started the ball rolling. Then "pony cars" came to life via Fords 1964 1/2 Mustang. GM followed suite with the '67 Camaros and Firebirds. Chrysler jumped up their little Barracuda as well. The Muscle car era was in full swing with all the American car companies by the late 60's with cars like the Duster, 442, Chevelle SS, Torino, GTX, and Javelin just to name a few. I hope you will investigate this venue further, your talent would really be welcomed by myself and many more modelers everywhere! My 2 cents from an old modeler from North Carolina. :D

      @@AdHocCars of I were to give one car, it would probably be the 1969 Dodge Charger made by Revell. It's one of the iconic muscle cars of that era. For a more challenging build, I would recommend the MPC 1967 Pontiac GTO. Where it is an iconic car, this kit is plagued with fitment issues.
