I just found this yt channel. In my opinion all of the singers of this iconic song of this iconic movie of 1973 - ' Jesus Christ Superstar ' sang well in their own right. But I would say zubin varla, Tim Munchin comes close. Still the legend - Carl Anderson rules the roost because he was literally part of this iconic movie. And the music composed by the iconic and legendary - Andrew Lloyd Webber will remain evergreen for all generations to come.

Wise to put Philip Quast last in these comparisons bc literally nobody can (or wants to) follow him.

Oh man, the greatest of all is missing: the stunningly gifted (and tragically short-lived) David Carroll from the Broadway 1988 cast.

For me, it’s the first one, Jason Donovan. That version is the one I have listened to a million times and will always be the best version to me. Donny is a close second though.

I like Alfie Boe's singing, but his performance of this is just so stiff. There's not even a hint of rubato, zero stretch in the line. It almost sounds like he's just singing with a metronome, and thinking "here's the forte part". Honestly, you might hear that and think he doesn't speak English and doesn't actually understand the words he's singing.

How could you leave out Terrance Mann, who originated the role on Broadway?. And why did you even mention Russell Crowe? As for your list, it's a tossup for me between Norm Lewis and Phillip Quast.

Tommy has a steel to his voice that few has.. Tom Jones has it, that's the only one i can think of..

Phillip Quast IS Javert. If he ever returned to the role I'd fly around the world to see him again. My personal second favourite is Earl Carpenter, and I'm surprised he's not on here, and Jeremy Secomb comes in third.

Quast is... well Quast. I also liked Jeremy Secomb. Well acted , no Quast quality but well done. Recordings a pretty different qualities. nic, screams it way out of tune.

There are three that I would put up as near to Donny, but he’s the only one that gave me brain tingles.

It's a little unfair since some have really bad audio so I don't think we are hearing them at their best. That said, I think no one did it better than David Carroll. Although it's entirely possible I think so because I grew up listening to the Broadway cast recording so his and Judy Kuhn's versions are the definitive ones for me.

Listen: I have a very specific option up that I haven’t seen anyone do in person but it would be the dream. Joe McElderry does a very cool thing right before the climax that I’d like to see followed up with the next part how Donny Osmond does it but then jump back to the final few notes the way Joe does it. Idk if this makes sense but I want to see someone sing it that way so badly

I’m old school, so much so I remember seeing Hugh Panero as Marius in Les Mis and then as Raoul in Phantom before he actually played The Phantom. It’s Michael Crawford and Colm Wilkinson for me. I know everyone’s golden child is Ramin but I find him so overrated.

Burton's version is absolutely incredible! It's absolutely incredible how he just sucks the energy, mayhem and life out of the original song, absolutely incredible!

Ive realized that hitting the note is not the hard part is bridging it with "good" It's an uncomfortable place to switch voice

Maybe have some professional audio clips so they can be compared evenly. Most of these suck.

For someone that bought the 1974 studio version, and listened to and learnt every song nore than 100 times, I simply have to say Gary Bond. He was for me the best, though all of the others are still good. Can see why majority go for Donny Osmond, but he is 2nd to Gary Bond for me

Loved Carl. Everyone was amazing. I kept wanting to hear the next lines. Brilliant record, and I am an Atheist.
