Orton Glow Utility
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 місяці тому
My new Orton Glow Utility has reached version 1.0! I finally got a functioning preview, which makes it so much more useful. I removed the LRGB the development version was applying. I felt that the whole point of the Orton effect was that dreamy glow and the LRGB was muting that, so instead I have changed the recommended opacity values to make it a nice and subtle effect. In a future version I w...

Many thanks for the script! Works great!
Thank you for the great script! Installation method with repository doesn't work, I had to download script and install manually.
Nice video mate, This is the first time you have been recommended to me on UA-cam which seems ridiculous considering we are both Aussies putting out content on Astro living on the east coast of Australia. My search results should have led me here long ago. I have just bought Pix Insight and have started playing with DSO imaging on my Dobs after being predominantly planetary for the last few years. I tell all my subs to practice, practice, practice your processing, as most people will see the biggest jump in their imaging results in this discipline and i too am no exception. All the best mate. Damo
Great video as always. Thank you. I´d be interested to compare an Adam Bloch method image to your FORAX method - Clear Skies!
Superb, Paul. My new go to workflow. I like the way you explain things as well. Easy to understand and follow. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mike. I’m glad I could help.
Thanks for this very well explained video, Paul! I have one question, since I am using the radian triad ultra filter for my images do I need to do anything different when it comes to creating the 3 channels since the filter has 4 band passes? Such as not having to create a synthetic 3rd channel? Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. I haven’t used the ultra but I guess in theory you could try splitting the channels and using the Red , Green and Blue channels as is. The red channel would include the Ha and Sii data, the green technically the Oiii and the Blue the Hb. In reality I imagine there would be a large overlap between the green and the blue channels. Can’t hurt trying it though, maybe with SetiAstro’s continuum subtraction script. If it doesn’t produce what you’d like then you can always fall back to keeping the red and blue channels and creating a synthetic green channel.
@@PaulymanAstro Thanks for the reply! Seems like keeping the red and blue and creating the synthetic green is the easiest and still reliable!
Thanks! It was useful. As for as future projects concern, it will be great to show how to use Photoshop blending techniques. For example, to show how Eric Cole technique (bouncing something (I forgot name)) works. Clear Skies.
Thanks. Photoshop definitely isn’t my area of expertise. Craig Stocks does some amazing work over on his channel Utah Remote Desert Observatories using Photoshop. I have done a video in the past though where I demonstrate how to emulate Eric’s method using GHS in PixInsight.
Thanks a lot!!! Clear skies forever for you and for Seti Astro!
Nice one, dude. Loving your content as always.
Thanks mate.
Thanks, Paul! This was great. Looking forward to the StevenMillerStars Script! I've been using the technique manually and having a script to do it would be very welcome!! Thanks for working on that for us. Much appreciated.
Best explanation that I've found yet! Thank you so much, for taking the time to make this video!! I've learned gobs from this, and look forward to seeing anything else you have to offer!
Thanks Wayne! I’m glad I could help.
I found your channel today and sent the link to all my astrophoto friends. You are a genius in my eyes and what you do is very informative. Thank you very much Tibor Altmann
Thanks mate. That’s awesome to hear. Clear skies.
it's so good that there is someone who shows everything in such detail. Thank you !!
Thanks mate. Glad you like the content.
Nice work Paul!
Thanks--watching this after seeing Adam's a few times, you have brought out the adjustments in ImageBlend a bit more clearly, at least for me. As much as Adam deserves kudos for his work, I think the real unsung hero here is Mike Cranfield for his amazing scripts. Not far behind is Frank quite honestly. We all owe them a lot! And you as well for creating content like this that helps us lesser PI users learn and improve our processing skills.
Absolutely. I’m trying to recall if I acknowledged Mike? I hope I did, I know it was in my rough script for the video.
thanks! this is great, and frankly more useful in learning how to do it compared to the more lengthy original from Adam. Excellent.
Thanks mate. Glad you liked it. I love Adams work, I made sure to just create a barebones simple intro to his technique.
Wonderful tutorial. I have all the scripts and now can put this into practice.
Awesome. What about your Forax palette. It doesn't work anymore (only with pixelmath)
As far as I’m aware Foraxx Palette Utility is still working. I’ll have to check and see if I need to update the repository files.
Thanks Paul another great video
Thanks mate.
Thanks Paul ! I’ll try this on my next image!
Nice Paul Thx for the simple tutorial ! like that
Thanks mate.
Thanks for this easy and fun method. Can you please tell me where I can find the StevenMillerStars Script??
The script is complete but I’m still testing at the moment, I also need to add error catching and correction before it is released into the wild.
Thanks for this tutorial Paul, do you have plans to make the star addition process based on Steve's method available at all? Many thanks.
Hi Peter. Yes it’s in the works. It is functional at this point (as you saw in the video), but I haven’t tested it with many datasets yet and haven’t built any error catching and correction yet.
awesome Paul. This made more sense to me than AB’s video. How would you approach getting more detail in the structure?
In general, I would create a luminance layer to work on. That way I could independently work on the sharpness and contrast. In the case of my data I would have combined the Ha and Sii for the luminance as they had some really nice structure. To boost the fainter nebulosity in my data I would produce a mask to isolate it and then do some careful stretching with GHS. I’d do that for both the colour data and the luminance data.
Amazing!!
Thanks Thomas.
WOW! Love how fake it looks. Great job!!!
Fantastic. I just tried this out on an image of Dragons of Ara and it's stunning. Your way of using Ghs is brilliant. I now understand it much better. Thanks!
I’m glad I could help. I love the Dragons, they are so photogenic.
Finally able to install PI. Thank you so much for your help in working through this program!!
Glad I could help Patti. Clear skies.
Link doesnt work ...
Perfect explanation of Math. THX :)
Great video, but you talk too fast to digest.
Thanks for the feedback. It is always a fine line between talking too slow and talking too fast.
Just tried it on some old OSC data. Works great!
Thank you! A very useful video.
Hey, i added the repository link in the pixinsight and on clicking on updates, i dont find any updates, how can i install this?
Unfortunately the PixInsight update process can be a massive pain. I flush the cache on my web server each day to try and ensure any updates are served out but otherwise it is just a case of waiting and hoping PixInsight notices there is an update.
@@PaulymanAstro ohh.. tried reloading all the scripts, even reset the updates but nothing happened... I dont see a folder of orton glow in the Pixinsight script folder..
If the youtube algorithm had just half a brain to understand the value, simplicity, and effectiveness of your videos, you would get so many views.
Thanks for the kind words.
Great explanation. The first video i've seen that actually helped me understand the workflow. Thank you so much.
Thanks. I’m glad it helped. Clear skies.
Whats the music on the intro? Still working on finding an appropriate image that really shines with this script.
Honestly I think it won’t start to truly shine until I can work in some masking. The Orton Effect as it stands will apply equally to the darker regions and the lighter regions. So if you have any nice dark nebulosity in the image it can brighten that as well. That’s not to say you can’t create your own mask now and apply it to your image before applying the script. The music is a piece of stock music from Envato Elements.
Hey Paul! I came to your channel to install the foraxx utility script after installing the new pix and found this awesome video! Cant weight to give your script a go and hopefully be able to stay in Pixinsight. Thanks for the video plug BTW. Really appreciate the work you do!
Thanks mate. Hope you like the script. It wouldn’t exist without your inspiration. It isn’t on par with PS at this point, but I have just learned how to apply masks within scripts so I’m hoping that’s where the more subtle magic can start happening.
@@PaulymanAstro I'm actually have a bit of trouble installing it. The link is cut off in the description, I'm sure there's a work around but i haven't figured it out yet.
@enteringintospace4685 I’ve just updated the description with a shortened bitly link. I hadn’t realised but apparently if your links are too long UA-cam shortens them for you and that can get mucked up if you ever edit the description in the future. The bitly link will hopefully work. Don’t panic if you get a 403 error when you get to the page, just copy the web address from the address bar and add it to the repositories list in Pix.
@@PaulymanAstro dont panic on a 403 error...check! Thanks for making the adjustment!
