Man, Saturdays used to kick ass in the 90's as a kid. Saturday Morning cartoons, then tune in to the Busch Series race on TNN or ESPN (maybe TBS or CBS depending on the event) and from morning to the mid-afternoon my day was set. Then Sunday morning was church and the Cup Race or IndyCar or whatever I could find on an off weekend. That's when TV actually had great programming produced well... Also, this race had one of the better intro songs of all time. SRV's Tightrope.

Dale Jarrett should have won the Winston Cup this season. A terrible call by the officials at Watkins Glen forced him to make a pit stop because they “saw” and problem with his car that didn’t exist. He was running top 5 at the time and the stop relegated him back to about 30th place. He ended up finishing the season 14 points behind Jeff Gordon for the title. That blunder cost DJ at least 50 points in the standings and ultimately sank his chances at winning the cup. He was an absolute threat to win every week in 1997. Even though he ended up winning the title in 1999, in my opinion, 1997 was his best season.

CBS starting airing more NASCAR races when they had no NFL football on Sundays in 1995. CBS coverage was good but not on par with FOX or NBC when they took over in 2001.

CBS' coverage had significantly degraded by the time we got to 1997.

Texas Terry LaBonte says, "I win race with Dale putting me in wall." Today Chase Elliott puts Logano in wall after Kyle Busch puts him in the wall and Chase goes in pit road with 2 laps to go.
