Combat Tai Chi - It's Not Park Tai Chi

    How did you actually test this in a fight? Were you a correctional officer who had many encounters, or did you test under similar conditions. I knew two persons who had extensive real world experience. Both believed, based on experience and observations that chin na was extremely unlikely to work unless the attacker was already subdued or was cooperating. Against an adrenalized, wild, attacker the odds of chin na succeeding are about the same as catching a fly with chopsticks, no matter how skilled at chin na you are. That was their opinion and it seems far more reasonable to me than yours.

    Hmmmmm. Agreed. I was a bouncer for years to strengthen my control. Seven star position never failed me. Couple that with my lessons under Malcolm Su, I earned a reputation and no-one ever asked my core style. I posted my Australian certification. The stamp was done by the man from China/Tibet who did my examinations.

    I appreciate that T'ai Chi was originally developed as a martial art, but to denigrate anything that isn't what you call "Combat T'ai Chi" like that is just stupid. Respect people's choices and stop putting people down because they don't do or know what you do and know.

    Sun Tzu stated, “When men go to war they use weapons.” Whether one is doing Tai Chi in a park or in a studio it’s their ability to fight that makes it effective. This ability may or may not be present in someone doing Tai Chi in the park, as it may or not be present in someone doing Tai Chi in a studio. To say a person doing Tai Chi in a park can’t defend themselves or if wanted, to effectively attack someone is totally not understanding reality.

    Great principles. I tell people all the time. Tai Chi is not a fighting art, It is a finishing art. You notice that the student threw the first punch, but Sifu landed first and was in position to finish not continue fighting. Fighting involves at least 2 adversaries. In my Tai Chi I don't fight, I finish, he never gets a second chance.

    Funny looking gentlemen, obviously having a very superficial idea of what the real fight looks like. I mean not a spontaneous profane attack of a boozer in a bar, but a professional combat assault which this system was initially supposed to counteract. But everything worthy fades away in time and with the followers..

    • @ShaolinArtsAZ
      @ShaolinArtsAZ 4 місяці тому

      We understand this is not a fight. There is a difference between demonstration and an actual fight. This is not a sport like the MMA where the intent is to entertain. An actual fight goes so fast you wouldn’t be able to see anything.

    • @ДмитрийЗорин-я2п
      @ДмитрийЗорин-я2п 4 місяці тому

      @@ShaolinArtsAZ Actually I've never had such a problem in the real fight- not to be able to see anything.. The system makes you ready for that, it is one of its purposes.That's why I believe that you have a.. not quite clear knowledge of that. As for the MMA mentioned I used to advise to try them in the nearest gym, just for "entertainment" and to get rid of some illusions on one's account. Though I agree with you that it is sports with conditions, limitations and far from providing profound knowledge. If your demonstration is not a preparation for the real fight, then why is it put as "combat"? What is it for then?

  • @cogybear

    • @cogybear
      @cogybear 3 місяці тому

      @@ShaolinArtsAZ point is, it’s not an ‘actual’ fight and anything I’ve ever seen in tai chi which is mostly drills and grappling with some throws and locks… it belies its original name ‘supreme ultimate fist’ there’s no boxing, so it’s useless in a real fight against someone who can box PLUS there’s no ground game, so if you get in a fight against someone who knows jujitsu you’re going to get taken down and destroyed. So not much use in real life That’s why there are no tai chi champions of mma, they don’t have an adequate range of skills to combat a multifaceted warrior Sure they can wave a sword in fancy ways and impress children and the gullible. But it’s an obsolete and gentrified ‘art’ The core principals of taichi combat are great, but it needs a serious overhaul and modernisation

    The biggest problem with all Chinese Martial Arts is that they don't account for the timing and distance. All techniques do work, but only if the timing and distance are calculated appropriately.

    Well done. Good practical Tai Chi. Something that seldom finds on the internet or real life. I spent years finding all this essence that was shown here because there are not many Tai Chi instructors who know how to use Tai Chi in a fight. There are thousands of teachers who teach you the form only. The main principles are relaxation of the mind and body, always in the balance of your body and emotions. Be fast.Defence, and attack are simultaniously done. Act without plan and feel the opposite force so you can use or distribute in your favour. By the way, the Russian "Systema" is using Tai Chi as a base, so if you are smart, watch them and learn. Even when they hit they are relaxed.

    • @dalehill6127
      @dalehill6127 4 місяці тому

      I completely agree. The best Systema I've seen is Mikhail Ryabko (short and fat but very dangerous!😊), and his systema looks like tai chi done for real _fighting._ His deflection footwork is like quicksilver, his locks are inescapable and full of pain control, he punches like a train. His disciple Vladimir Vasilievich (still alive) is not, in my opinion, in any way the equal of Ryabko. You'll find plenty of vids of Ryabko on UA-cam and despite his needing an interpreter, they're all well worth watching.

    • @gancho030169
      @gancho030169 4 місяці тому

    Have you see Mike Tyson training video, when he like 15 - 17 years old? Or seen a Division 1 wrestler shoot in with a Power Double, Josh Koscheck comes to mind, NCAA Division I 174 1b - Champion out of Edinboro University (2001) or Randy Couture Pan American Championship Greco-Roman Seniors 90 kg - winner (January 1, 1991) & Pan American Games Greco-Roman Seniors 90 kg - winner (August 6, 1991). Have you ever had a Greco-Roman grab a hold of you, it sucks. Until you answer those challenges you going to have to deal with MMA fanboys crapping all over your traditional martial art/s. One....two more, Rob Kaman and Ernesto Hoost two of the best Kickboxers, at least on my list of all time great Kickboxers.

    • @ShaolinArtsAZ
      @ShaolinArtsAZ 4 місяці тому

      I’m sure you’ve heard this, but consider that MMA has rules. Martial Arts designed for self-defense or war do not. So, yes, if you tell a traditional martial artist that you have to fight, but you can’t use most of what you know in the fight, I wouldn’t expect the outcome to be different.

    It’s super cheap to try to make your name by attacking people who practice in parks. More “holier then thou” nonsense from people who don’t even understand the art but want to get clicks and make money. I did Tai Chi in a park on my way to the subway. There were people there doing stuff I still can’t understand. There was an old, old guy open hand slapping the cast iron swing set poles. Let’s go find him and criticize “park tai chi.” Unprofessional and disrespectful to others in the community. You’re embarrassing.

    • @ShaolinArtsAZ
      @ShaolinArtsAZ 4 місяці тому

      I’m sure you understand that it’s not about the location but the content of your art. If the old, old man is doing real tai chi while standing in a park, that is not park tai chi. Those are two different concepts.
