Great tips! We are currently searching around to see if we can lower our bills. And yes, love tip number 5!
Tip #5 - so good!
Cant now. Eggs will break your budget.
True, eggs are insane right now 😭
I'm trying to clean out my aging staples. Making new recipes to get them used up.
That’s smart! Always good to clean out / use up the pantry every so often.
You have neglected cost of cooking the food against eating out.
That would definitely be interesting information to know. I don’t think it would make the cost per serving go up all that much though.
I know you want to try to spend less and cut corners to make things even out ,but remember to take care of yourself because you are important. Sendimg Love and prayers your way!
Thank you, I appreciate you saying that ❤️❤️
We love no peek chicken and marry me chicken so good tonight im cooking pork chops and rice in beef consumme soup it is delicious have a blessed week
Why has it taken me so long to try these recipes?! Marry me chicken was definitely amazing and I’m looking forward to trying the other one, maybe tomorrow! Your dinner for tonight sounds delicious!
No peek chicken has become a family favorite in our house.
Ooh good to know! I’m looking forward to making it!
This is the first week in a while that I haven't meal planned but I'm out of money in my grocery category🤣and we have some meat and pantry items I would like to use up so that's what I'm doing. Tonight is gumbo. 😋
Nice job just figuring out how to use what you have! 👏🏻
👍
Thanks! <3
Cards and games baby wipes lots , yes crank solar radio , a lot more water if you cant afford a big generator get a portable one .
Thanks for the tips! I forgot about adding baby wipes to my list!
Michael and I were just talking about this! We've both had single friends tell us that eating out is less expensive now with the groceries being higher. We're like, um, no, not really. 😂
Haha yeah, I know it seems that way to people sometimes but when you do the math it’s amazing how much money you save eating at home!!
Wow! Pretty mind blowing how much cheaper it is to cook and eat at home!
I know! 🤯 Kind of an encouraging thing to think about too when I feel like I’m spending a lot on groceries 🙃
Do you need a Thumbnail Designer?
No but thank you!
You might want to use a Sharpee type pen to write the Use By Date onto your emergency Tylenol and triple antibiotic cream and other meds.
That’s a good tip, thanks!
Great haul and meal plan.. Your son is too cute! They are predicting snow here on the Texas gulf coast. Thats rare! I pray we dont have a repeat of 2021 with the power grid crashing. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thank you! ❤️ Oh I hope not, that was crazy in 2021 and I know so many people were out of power for a long time!
Great haul. I'm a Sam's club girl. But I do go to costco once in a while. They have a few things we like there. R. Chicken is the best! I take all the chicken off and freeze the carcas until I'm ready to make chicken broth.
@@angiesteuckI love using the carcass for broth too. I have some going in my crockpot right now actually! 😄 I’ve never had a Sam’s membership - we don’t have one near us - but I’ve always been curious how they compare to Costco!
We are doing a family challenge this year of only 2 meals out a month. This allows us a celebration meal and 1 family meal. So far so good. Also we have 10 cook books and want to use some new recipes. My wife is a fantastic cook, so we are eating well. ❤
I think that sounds like a great approach! I’m not sure what we’re going to do after this month but maybe it will eventually be something similar. I also love that you’re wanting to use your cookbooks - I have some great ones that I need use more as well. It’s definitely easy to forget about them sometimes and just use Pinterest or whatever.
We eat out once a month and only fast food.
Once a month is nice! We may plan to do that in February.
Having a meal plan in place is essential for us. Not only does it save money, but it also helps with the whole eating out. I made this month (January) as our no eat out month and so far we have done great. My husband and I did go out for lunch earlier this month with another couple. But, other than that, I have stayed pretty good on just making sure we have a meal plan each week in place. Next month will be eating out 3 different times as we all have bdays next month. But the place we go to still does free bday meals. So that's our treat. We go to this place once a year, usually on our bdays. I need to be better at meal prepping. I have gotten away from that. Thanks for the great tips!
Great job! Yes, meal planning helps me so much, as well as prepping ahead when I can. Sometimes I have a great meal plan but I make all the easier meals earlier in the week and then towards the end of the week I don’t feel like putting in the effort of the harder meals and that’s when I’m tempted to eat out ha ha. That sounds like a great birthday tradition! 😁
We try to only eat out Friday night. We tend to eat out Saturday breakfast, too. 😅
That’s a happy tradition and way to end the week! 😁 Not eating out at all this month has made me realize how often I’m tempted to! 😆
Read the blog post with all my tips here: www.thetexmexmom.com/20-strategies-to-stop-eating-out-so-much/
Get your family the large heavy duty beverage containers we have two and that gives us 10 gallons of water that is stored in our pantry. The clear bottles can lead to an algae build up. We also have a five gallon bucket with a trash bag liner to use for a potty and that is where we use the clear bottled water. A case of adult whips for washing up. Most important to us is our generator and extra fuel both gas and propane.
Those are things I wouldn’t have thought of. Thanks for the tips!!
That's a great start!!! I might suggest a power station that can be powered multiple ways, water purification items (like water purification tablets, straws, and water bottles), an emergency radio, solar/hand crank power banks, a solar battery charger, rechargeable batteries or usb batteries, a solar panel (for charging a power station & usb batteries) headlamps, and things to keep you warm (clothes, coats, wool blankets, cold weather sleeping bags, etc.) Hand crank/solar flashlights are good things to have on hand, as well.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I definitely want to get some sort of power station or solar charger and a radio!
Here in Tampa we stock up on solar power stations and duel fuel gas/propane generators. I run my fridge and chest freezers 24/7 365 days a year on solar. I've had enough blackouts from hurricanes. Lots of backup supply's, coleman propane stoves etc.. It's nice to be able to run some portable ac's etc.. after these storms. You want to make your family's life as normal as possible and its rewarding to help your neighbors as well. Start off small and just make it a priority to keep investing in it a little at a time.
Great advice, thank you! Sounds like you really have a great system in place, that’s awesome!
Here in southeast Texas we also stock up on solar and trifuel generators.
@ Should be obvious at this point to prepare for the grid to be out its kind of the new normal in America. Earthquakes, twisters wild fires blizzards you name it they just keep coming.
Does the lemon lime seltzer water taste like Sprite at all? I haven’t tried that one yet!
Yes it does a little, just without the sweetness! ☺️
Are your glasses new? They look very nice on you. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much!! ❤️ They’re not new but I’ve been wearing them more this month due to a cold in my eye.
Our power is always going out. We live in a rural area with lots of trees and they take out the power lines every stiff breeze.
Oh dear, that would be so frustrating! 😩
@TheTexMexMom It is! Luckily we have a generator!
@@HomesteadHavenCo that’s smart. We had the electrical installed so that we can easily plug a generator in, but we have yet to buy one ha ha 😆
@TheTexMexMom Yes! Being able to plug the gen in makes a huge difference! That's our setup. Helps so much with the well and septic pumps!
No blizzards in Texas??? I remember winter a few years ago, the power grid collasped, everything came to a stand still for weeks...and there was blizzards.
Ha, true, we lost power here that time, that was crazy! I just meant blizzards as in so much snow falling that you can’t see in front of you 🤪 But yes, we’ve had some crazy ice storms and snow here in TX for sure!
Yes we live just north of Houston during that time. We were without for about 3 or 4 days. Obviously not a normal thing for Texas is what she means. Blizzards like they have in Michigan, which i've also experienced was more normal up there. Praying we dont have to go through something like that again. Stay warm!
That was not a blizzard! There was 2-4 inches of snow but way more ice. Not a blizzard.
You do a great job staying on budget. Do you have any budget Tex-Mex recipes? Not sure if you do any cooking videos! Im here on the Texas gulf coast. I always try to be prepared. Now tornados are becoming more common. At least a hurricane you can evacutate. Thank you for all your hard work. 😊
Thanks! 😊 I haven’t done many cooking videos - I would like to do more, I just need to get better at figuring out how to film it. This enchilada recipe I made last week is really budget friendly, it only calls for 2 cups of chicken, although I often use 2 1/2. www.thecountrycook.net/creamy-chicken-enchiladas/ That’s hard having to prepare for both hurricanes and tornadoes! As a child in Ohio we could just go to the basement for a tornado, but here where we are in Texas no one has basements.
Great start. Little tip, depending on how long you take to get to your peanut butter, store it upside down so when you open it, the oil is at the bottom.
What a great tip, thanks! Going to go turn mine upside down now …
Love the snowman pic! ⛄ Your stockpile for emergencies looks like the perfect amounts / . of foods for your family
We were very proud of our snowman haha 😄 Thank you!!
The worst outage we had in Lubbock in the last 20 years was 2 days. Thank God for sandwich meat.
2 days feels like a long time when it’s really cold (or really hot!)
Stay safe & warm!
Thank you!! ❤️
Were you able to get a raincheck at Kroger for the chicken that was on sale? Would you mind linking the white enchilada recipe, please? It sounds delish!
I didn’t even think about asking for a rain check! Is that something you do? I’ll have to remember to try that next time! Here’s the enchilada recipe! It only calls for 2 cups of chicken, but I like to use at least 2 1/2. www.thecountrycook.net/creamy-chicken-enchiladas/
@TheTexMexMom Thank you!! Yes, I've gotten rain checks before. It depends on each individual store's policy, but it doesnt hurt to check :)
@@shimmerysummersun good to know!!
Thanks for the enchilada idea! It's been snowing, below freezing temperatures here this week. 🥶 ❤😅
Sure! 😁 My kids are hoping for snow here tomorrow, but we’ll see! 🤞🏼
Hello sis. New friend here, I enjoy following you around shopping for dinner. Keep in touch sis. Wish you good luck and Happy after new year.
Thank you, happy New Year to you!
One of the new things we're trying this week is lentil tacos. We shall see if we like them! 😅 I haven't cooked with lentils since 2020 when the stores were out of beans, but we were reading about how healthy they are, so we're gonna give them another try. 😊
Oh interesting, good for you! Do you add meat as well or just lentils? I really need to cook with lentils again!
@TheTexMexMom this week we're doing just lentils, no meat! We shall see! I'm thinking we'll probably mix with meat in the future haha.
@@jonathanandhannahsmith7009nice, that sounds really economical! I th ink Pablo would revolt against lentil tacos though haha 😆
@@TheTexMexMom 😂
Spaghetti, pizza, ravioli, beanee weenie. Salad with the Spaghetti. The Spaghetti lasts us two suppers. How do you make your quesadilla's?
My quesadillas are nothing fancy - I just make them on a pan or skillet with flour tortillas and whatever cheese I have on hand and then serve them with salsa on the side. What is beanee weenie?
@TheTexMexMom Just canned baked beans with cut up hot dogs in with them. Nothing fancy. Uncle Robert just had hankering for them lately.
@@joanthomas7082that sounds like a good, comforting meal for a cold day!
Your eggs are even cheaper than ours! Yay!
Always interesting to see how our prices differ! I was glad for an egg sale, they’ve been so pricey lately 🤑
Random- but I have the same printer and we love it! I’ve never done a sheet pan meal. I’ll have to give one a try this year. Thanks for the ideas!
Oh cool, we haven’t had it for long but I love how you can refill the ink, it’s different than what we’ve had in the past. If you want to try a sheet pan meal, one of the best is “change your life chicken” (just google it!) SO yummy!
The food industry is doing this intentionally
You sold your homemade bread? Love it! And so many great tips here, Rebekah! Sometimes we think we have to make it more complicated than it is - when we have so much to learn from our moms and grandmas. I think Frugal Fit Mom was just talking about variety is a luxury. And it is so true!
That’s so true, it’s not really all that complicated - we just have to go back to the basics. Definitely a lot of wisdom to be learned / remembered from the older generations. Oh good to know, that must be who I heard it from! Thanks! 😁
So fun to see your Aldi Christmas finds! And you are right...those candle toppers are adorable!
Right?! I was so tempted to buy more of them just because they were so cute but I restrained myself 😆
We all have the same problem making ends meet at Christmas wishing to give your children all that you can
Yes! It’s just so fun and special to give our kids gifts 🥰 Thankful for sales and second hand to make it a little more doable 🙌🏻

Ahh that’s nice 🥰 I think I was probably pretty proud of myself too haha 😆
