The Lucknow-Shahjahanpur-Gharana Archive (LSGA) presents historical archival recordings of its glorious musicians from a bygone era of instrumental Raag-music on sarod, sitar, banjo and surbahar including the likes of Ustads Asadullah "Kaukub" Khan, Sakhawat Hussain Khan, Yusuf Ali Khan, Walliullah Khan, Shafiqullah Khan, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, Umar Khan, Ilyas Khan, Gulfam Ahmed and concert videos of the gharanas current khalifa Ustad Irfan Khan and related artists & disciples.
The channel is curated and its audio content carefully digitized, restored and remastered for optimum sound by german sitar & surbahar player Matyas Wolter under the guidance of his teacher Ustad Irfan Khan whose vast collection of cassette & spool tapes, 78 rpm shellac discs, photos, videos, manuscripts and other gharana memorabilia is the main source of this channel. Sitarya Ustad Ilyas Khan (1924-1989) -second son of the legendary sarod maestro Ustad Sakhawat Hussain Khan (1875-1955) of Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana was a phenomenal musician with a huge repertoire of Ragas and compositions. Most of his life he was teaching music at the Bhatkhande College in Lucknow and lived a life devoted to music.
"Ilyas Khan was roughly a contemporary of Ravi Shankar, Vilayat Khan and Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. Yet few listeners today have heard of him, let alone his recorded music. He added to his gharana’s knowledge bank by studying, in addition to his family’s repertoire, more gats and dhrupads from the sitar gharana of Kalpi, near Lucknow. His non-family teachers had been the ustads Abdul Ghani Khan, a dhrupad singer, and Yusuf Ali Khan, a sitarist and sitar maker (also the original designer of the kharaj-pancham sitar that is today synonymous with Ravi Shankar)." Very difficult it is for the family, we all miss him so much.
This is unlike any sitar I have heard in my long life of of over 70 yeqars of listening to the best of Hindustani Classical Vocal and Instrumrntal Music. Those who enjoyed fame and patronage in the days after Independence were no match for Ustad Ilyas Khan , Ustad Yusuf Khan and Ustad Irfan Khan of the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana. The tonal quality is closest to a beautiful human voice. The progression is masterly, unhurried and bows to the wishes of the Raga and not to their own moods. Listeners are induced into a trance of enjoyment. This is a treasure of India. Honoured to learn that this great sitarist is Irfan Muhammad Khan's Uncle. Ramesh Alvar

We students of the gharana have learned this gat from Ustad Irfan Khansahib and it is part of our repertoire. I am sure it has been notated several times. I hope you are referring to the audio quality here?!
