Ustad Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan - Raga Bageshri
    Kabul Radio broadcast; early sixties
The great sarod player Ustad Ishtiaq Ahmed (1920-1967) of Delhi was one of the finest but least documented instrumentalists of his time. He was the son of legendary sarod pioneer, composer and writer Ustad Karamatullah Khan of Lucknow and was employed at All-India-Radio Delhi.
Ishtiaq Khan Saheb had two sons: Mukhtar Ahmed and Gulfam Ahmed. The elder son Mukhtar Ahmed was an All India Radio Artist at Patna. He expired in 1994. Presently the younger son Gulfam Ahmed is carrying on this tradition of Lucknow Gharana on Sarod.
Even though we are sure that there are plenty of spool recordings of his music rotting away in some radio archives very few of his recordings have actually seen the light of day.
The Bageshri is from an early 1960ies Radio Kabul broadcast. Apart from this there are no further informations about the track available.
One of his most regular accompanists in Delhi was tabla & pakhawaj maestro Prem Vallabh, who could be the accompanist on (some of those) those tracks.
From the collection of Ustad Irfan Muhammadkhan.

There is some very peculiar sound-issue with this piece which i can´t explain and never experienced before: if i listen on my mobile device it sounds indeed like an inaudible defective file. When i connect to speakers it sounds "normal" (far from good because the original source was poor but at least very audible). In fact this is the second upload of it after many hours trying to fix it but aforementioned issues remain. Sorry for the inconvenience.
