We 3D Printed FILAMENT BEARINGS for a Go-Kart. Will it work?
This is an (impractical) test of our Filament Bearings that are made using PLA filament as the rollers. We also test a much smaller size and different filament types. The results were surprising 😅🔥
All files are available on our Patreon, including the Bearings which are completely free to download and use.

    PLA is the strongest plywood You're only issue with heat if you can manage heat you should be okay also you can get 2.85 mm filament if these work it'd be worth getting a roll just for that it would basically last forever

    man, you're probably using the worst possible plastics possible for this project + you're printing them VERTICALLY !! (just cause its easier), i mean it would be easier to build a house in cardboard instead of concrete, but no one in their right mind would do it cause it is not strong enough for the task anyways, the idea 10/10, the engineering decisions -99/10 :) + i mean you got a bambulab printer, why didn't use a some plastics that would be more suited for a propeller, like PET-CF, PP-CF, PPA-CF

    Surely carbon fibre rods, with a suitable diameter, cut to length would make sturdy rollers? I don't know how round they are but it might be worth a look.

    Plz go for a Polyurethane/PU-molding: Print the outer form (multi pieces) with a resin printer as a molding. Then use PU to fill the mold. -> Should be much more precise. And as far of my knowledge there are bearings made of plastic/Polyurethane.

    I encourage some minor cheating. For the bearings themselves, use parts of nails or something equally cheap to get ahold of. For smaller ones, paper clip parts. My consideration is in obtaining things. Particular size bearings are much harder to source than standard steel parts. Try the nails from pallets (which appear to be abundant across the globe). They may make good bearings.

    Stop trying to fix what isn't broken. Bearings are great and cheap. I just bought 20 for like $7. They work exceptionally well, are very strong, compact, space efficient and have a very long life. Plus they are metal which can be easily recycled.

    I recently created a perfectly functional ball bearing design that uses BBs. BBs are *way* more effective for a bearing than trying to use anything 3D-printed for the actual bearing part of the design, and they can be bought very cheaply by the thousands.

    • @CK3DPRINTS
      @CK3DPRINTS Місяць тому

      @@purplecowadoom That's a great application for sure. I probably should have put more emphasis on this test being a "can we do it?" project more than a "should we do it?" project 😅. My goal was to make a bearing by relying completely on the 3D printer and what any 3D printing enthusiasts may have laying around (filament). Bbs, along with many other cheap materials, are definitely a better option in 99.9% of cases. The ultimate goal of any of our engineering videos is to spark creativity and by creating something, all while not crossing into spam/click bait territory. This video did 1,000x better than I expected and the ideas I've seen in these comments are exactly what I hoped for. Cheers 🤘🏻

    I use small bits of electricians pull grease as grease on plastic though you probably dont need it. Water based, won't slowly dissolve plastic or rubber over time. Though sometimes dry lubes are needed, graphite and that white powder work fine.

    I don't understand what these rates are for. I do overhead videos of soccer games, edit in 4k60 do color, cuts, and play by play zoom-follow and I have an AI program I created myself which analyzes the video and gives a play-by-play analysis for each player on the field based on position which they can pull up and follow the time stamps while watching. It takes like 6-7 hours for everything except uploads and processing I charge $200 as my "learning rate" since I am still new at the editing software so I am a bit slow still and still mastering hotkeys to speed up. Your calculator says I should be charging like $900+ not even including the AI analysis. That's... crazy. Nobody is going to pay me that much. I would be embarrassed to even ask for it.

    • @CK3DPRINTS
      @CK3DPRINTS 2 місяці тому

      Haha, I remember thinking the same thing when I was starting out. Very cool system/business model by the way 😎 When you are first starting out and learning, there's nothing wrong with finding a reliable local gig that is only possible if the rate is extremely low. You most likely won't ever get high schools and parents to pay you what you're worth. You can however use the experience and money to expand on your knowledge, skills and eventually gear. (Gear is the least important). Also, the type of work you do is more in the category of event coverage, at a school, which means you don't have much room in their budget. I would advice expanding into more wealthy clients. I never dreamed I would get $2,500 for my first wedding video (in a small poor town and for someone I knew that wasn't loaded either). Now I won't do a wedding video for less than $5k. Our drones don't leave the shop for less than $1k anymore. Even for the simple stuff. (Unless we are just having fun lol) This calculator is meant to be a baseline and you can always adjust your hourly rate in the beginning to help offset some things. It also helps remind you of all the work you will have involved in a project like this. Sure, it may be too high, but in my experience, I've almost always bid WAY too low for business owners and other corporate clients. They are paying you for 5 main things: 1. Your experience, and knowledge 2. Your creative eye filming 3. Your equipment, software, insurance, and licenses. 4. Your editing abilities 5. Your licensed assets (music, etc..)

      One last note: I'm still embarrassed to ask for large amounts on a contract. You'll get used to it, and it's almost entirely a false fear. I had a cemetery that I did drone property coverage for and I was embarrassed to ask for $2,000 (first 6 months with a 107, flying a mavic pro). The manager of the cemetery said I should rethink that number and ask again. They paid us $3k 😆

    Crazy that I had to find a 2 year old AVATA1 tutorial video to explain why my AVATA2 has now self-destructed TWICE where minor crashes putting the drone safely on the ground suddenly resulted in it going berserk when the shut down command is given. You NEED to be able to disarm the drone for safety and the fact that these drones STILL have this problem today is kind of mind-blowing. These should be default settings. You can't convenience your way out of safety by putting barriers between the pilot and their ability to control the drone.
