Cheers, and always good to hear from older personal relationships. The channel is about drinking in moderation, and trying to find the various flavor notes of whiskey. I do not support drinking into excess. Fun fact, Elijah Craig, the "father of bourbon" was a baptist preacher from Culpeper jailed several times in the region for preaching the baptist faith without a license from the Anglican church.

I haven't done a review because I haven't seen one released in a while. But hands down one of the best bottles on my shelf, and I would buy multiple backups if I could. Its old barton juice as cask, so to find out if its worth it to you would be to try other older barton releases, or on the more available side 1792 full proof (way younger and not the same animal, but similar base notes). The closest thing I can think of is the Lux Row Double Barrel 12 years they release only at the gift shop. I'm not as big of a fan of the other Lucky 7 products, but if I could find more of the proprietors, I would buy. It is pricy at $200.

@@BourbonRetriever thanks for the response, I could agree more! I have over twenty different barrels of the 14 year proprietor’s, have a couple of the 15 year as well. They are discontinued now from what I heard. My favorite bourbon by far

That’s tough. Wish they didn’t do the bundle as I don’t really want the others, but does stop flippers and help other get the bottles. I probably would have passed too and just hope to find it another time outside a bundle

@@BourbonRetriever It was in your video. 00:05:07 Smack dab in front of the camera. I have to hide that bottle from a friend. Every time he comes over he wants it. And he has a collection that goes back in time and is phenomenal. It's one of his fav bottles. Me, I love his 2016 Lil Book that is 43yo Canadian. It's like drinking a Coke a cola.

@@BourbonRetriever I messaged DMV Spirits asking if the opened bottle was for sale. This is his reply: "Unfortunately not it was for sale at the time but all gone. I can bring in a sample for you though as I have an open one at home. Thanks for reaching out!" I won't drive up there for a sample but you may want to. I'm down in Chesapeake, too far away for an ounce or 2.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Sagamore DO (heresy to say in the DMV), but it has too much of the rye funk for me. I like more bourbon friendly ryes, like JD BP Rye. I don't have a RR10 bottle, but I might have to see if i can find a pour at a bar to see if I should go back to it. I love the RR sib. The ERs can be hit or miss, and have a huge variance between bottles.

@@BourbonRetriever JD BSBP (bottom label bottles) are great. I have their large bottle rye that is 133.x proof). I have two of the bourbons, one 127x, then other is 13x.x. I don't get into them often as they're wonderful but hot, even compared to other bottles of the same or higher proof. If you haven't had RR10 you can always find it at a bar. The RR SiBs are better, so much better that I stopped by WT KyS. I have a LOT of KyS due to the exchanges carrying them. I have 2 bottles that were two barrels apart (one barrel between them) and another 2 that were right next to each other. The flavor differences are eye opening. I have close to a dozen KyS's so need to buy more. That said, KyS is now pricier than RR SiB. I think the RR SiBs are better and they're cheaper. Then of course, there's WT RB, which is one of the best on the shelf. It's cheaper than RR SiB at the exchanges and VABC, if memory serves.I have backups of the WTRB and RR SiB. I bought a lot of the RR RB when they changed labels and annotated the ones that were the last of the old label that store had. Who knows, in a few years people may say the old labels tasted better and go looking for them. Worthy investment? Maybe.

Do you think the Larcney BPs are getting better? I'm starting to dig them more with the ECBPs dropping thier age statement. I normally drink whiskey neat, but in these summer months, I've been doing some over ice. Forgot how nice a big ice cube can add to a drink.

@@BourbonRetriever I think so, yes. Earlier ones were good but not as spicy; maybe a bit more mellow. At my age I don't remember what I had for breakfast. As to ice, I don't like the LBPs with regular ice cubes. It has to be a big chunk of ice. I can't explain it. It's not a good flavor or mouth feel with regular ice maker cubes.

Thats a good get for getting there 45 mins before open! sorry you were disappointed. I've never tasted a sample from the old squaty bottles. Your review makes me want to chase the older bottles now.

@@BourbonRetriever The friend I gave it to said it did not taste like the W12 by BT he had 4 years ago. He gave me a nice sample of VW12 Lot B. I made a DIY recipe of MM 2 parts MMCS to 1 part regular Larceny (94pr) and let them marry for 6 weeks). I then tried them and preferred the DIY. I then blinded them to friends who had no idea what they were drinking. Every single one of them chose the DIY over Lot B. One lady near cried cause VW12 was her fav bottle, one she paid big money for on the secondary market. I also made a poor man's pappy with OWA and that bottle of W12. It's undrinkable, unless you like gagging.

Congrats on the snag! and at a great price too! its still a great nice sweet pour, and didn't get as oaky at batch 1. I prefer it to batch 1 still. Don't worry about chasing the fomo between batches, you aren't missing out. They all taste very similar and its more nuanced difference

Very true that it will be hard to find at a bar, but hopefully with the larger release it will be easier. Its just hard for me to recommend to a general audience who enjoys older bourbons because its a different animal. But Found North does the best job at blending Canadian whisky.

Thanks for the input! I've thought about doing that (SLB style), but the video would have so much more dead space while I'm tasting it. The video would be double as long. Maybe if I planned my notes prior to the video I could do it, but I'm afraid it would feel unnatural.

It’s originally in an American oak barrel, but when it gets to finishing, they did choose only French oak staves

@@rhayes458 I’m not sure. I was trying to find differences, but struggled. Seared v toasted. Maybe the batching or how long they finish the whiskey.

Some brands like Willet are hesitant to enter ABC states because they only get paid when it is sold to the customer as opposed to the wholesaler (like most states). So I think this was a compromise to help push their product faster if they entered ABC. but that is just my theory.
