Great video and explanation of your experiences. I recently tried a store pick of some WR 2x oaked and for a lower proof point it was packed with flavor, more so than their standard shelf offering. A great go-to for anyone being introduced into the bourbon world.

I haven’t had a WR double oak store pick. But I’ve heard great things. If I see one in a store, I’ll have to get a sample to see if I should buy it

@@BourbonRetriever It’s worthy of a pour. My drive home tasted like pancakes and maple syrup, if you’re into that kind of thing.

      @@BourbonRetriever,
Just passed on a WRDO store pick at 75. I've never had a store pick of that but heard WRDO store picks are often overoaked. (The store doesn't give tasting samples.)

That’s a shame they didn’t do samples. I pass on picks I can’t sample. Not worth the risk

Nice video. Just drank my own OWA for the first time. What a sip; agree on that being the perfect proof point.

Thanks. I love that bottle so much. Congrats on the grab. Cheers!

@@BourbonRetriever thanks. I’m not new to bourbon, but there’s still a lot I haven’t tried. I did things in reverse. My third bottle ever was a WLW back when I could find it for 60 bucks. And that C923 is really good. Was lucky enough to have one this year too. Get to try my first Stagg tomorrow.

@@spitefulbumm that’s awesome. Never owned a WLW. But you will love the stagg jr. So good

If you still have the OWA, compared it in a blind with MM101 and Southern Star Paragon BiB. Thank me later. The two winners sit on the shelf and can be had any time. The loser, you have to tater for.

@@hoobeydoobey1267 I have both (kind of)! I got two different Paragon cask strength sib instead of the bib. Thinking of making of video on them as they are a great value at $60. I’m not the biggest fan of mm 101, but only way to really know is a blind. I’ll have to try it!

If you ever get another OWA compare it in a blind to MM10 and Southern Star Paragon BiB. I've done them in true blinds to friends. Every one picked OWA last. For me MM101 beats the other 2. Southern Star Paragon CS is magnificent. No need to tater for OWA, a lesser product, while the better wheated are readily available.
EC A124 tasted like earth. It was OK when I cracked it. Drank it down a 1/3 and couldn't stand the flavor of it after it had sat a bit. Gave it away. EC B524 is really good. Have backups of it.
If you enjoy DO's you need to find Sagamore DO rye. It's on every VABC shelf. It's better than the Woodford DO.
Blantons is light, very light. SFTB is OK, but still light. I had it years ago and did not like it. I have an opened Vet pick which collects dust.
RR10 is far better than ER10. ER10 has a bad licorice flavor. I can get it at base exchange drops. I buy them for friends. No upcharge. I really don't get the attraction of ER10.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Sagamore DO (heresy to say in the DMV), but it has too much of the rye funk for me. I like more bourbon friendly ryes, like JD BP Rye. I don't have a RR10 bottle, but I might have to see if i can find a pour at a bar to see if I should go back to it. I love the RR sib. The ERs can be hit or miss, and have a huge variance between bottles.

@@BourbonRetriever JD BSBP (bottom label bottles) are great. I have their large bottle rye that is 133.x proof). I have two of the bourbons, one 127x, then other is 13x.x. I don't get into them often as they're wonderful but hot, even compared to other bottles of the same or higher proof. If you haven't had RR10 you can always find it at a bar. The RR SiBs are better, so much better that I stopped by WT KyS. I have a LOT of KyS due to the exchanges carrying them. I have 2 bottles that were two barrels apart (one barrel between them) and another 2 that were right next to each other. The flavor differences are eye opening. I have close to a dozen KyS's so need to buy more. That said, KyS is now pricier than RR SiB. I think the RR SiBs are better and they're cheaper. Then of course, there's WT RB, which is one of the best on the shelf. It's cheaper than RR SiB at the exchanges and VABC, if memory serves.I have backups of the WTRB and RR SiB. I bought a lot of the RR RB when they changed labels and annotated the ones that were the last of the old label that store had. Who knows, in a few years people may say the old labels tasted better and go looking for them. Worthy investment? Maybe.
