    Very good video. My stuck problem, is my latest book. I just finished it. It’s really good in my opinion, but my problem is I’m only at 60,000 words and now I’m stuck to come up with quality chapters to match the rest of the book. I dread just having to ride a bunch of junk that the reader hate just up my page count.

    I have noticed the more rules about writing, rules about structure of a story to be correct and accepted makes it very hard and mechanical. That takes away all the creativity and spontaneity and joy out of writing. Those techniques!!!

    I really wish that I had had a way to make permanent records from my journals from the pre-internet age. I remember writing down things in My Diary (a wide-ruled spiral notepad) from the last half of the 1970s, but I don't remember the words that I wrote. I've also moved around a bit and have lost most of what I wrote in high school. I have a solid journal from 1999 through today, which would be great if that's what I were writing about. :D

    For me, it's the absolute re3verse of everything you're saying. It's when I have limitless free time that I feel the burnout the most. I have no energy. None. I don't want to do anything but stare at UA-cam all day, or, at the most, read. It's so TIRING sitting in this stupid little room of mine, and I CAN'T write because there's just nothing at all going on in my brain. Nothing.

    • @PageandPodiumPress
      @PageandPodiumPress Місяць тому

      I think you've got the answer right here! :) If you're feeling like you have too much time, try an inner child date (I talk about this toward the end), go for a walk, etc. Then it sounds like the little room and the screen are just not doing it for you! Can you change your format? I find that writing by hand can really get me unstuck. What happens if you just force yourself to handwrite three pages worth of whatever? It can even be, "Ugh, I don't want to do this, this is stupid, why am I doing this," just as long as you keep your hand moving. Usually, I find that there are things hiding in my brain that I wasn't even aware of, and once you find them, you can push back against the negativity there. I'm cheering you on!

    So glad... we have met, Amanda! You are the epitome of a book writing mentor of 'memoirs,' especially to a person like me who is not necessarily a celebrity, but like anyone of us who wish to meaningfully share their Story to the world... to inspire, and to share the ups-and-down road they have walked and thus, motivate them to write their own Memoir! Thank you, Amanda and your team!

    Thank you for your video. This is the situation I am in. I keep procrastinating. If someone keeps telling me I have to write it a different way, I get confused and unsecure. I then stop writing because I am scared to write it the wrong way or write it in an imperfect way. I already published one book, but the publisher told me to hurry, and hurrying is not my thing. I finished it with only about 32 pages, which was way too small. Paperback and my memoire is only from the age of about two years until 13. Now I am trying to write my expanded version and am already at age 16. There is just so much that went on in my life that I sometimes can hardly remember the dates and times. I am 64 going on 65 this year and do wish to finish my book. If I only had a little help. I have a person who is also an Author, but she charges me a monthly fee if I take her advice, plus she confuses me at times, and that is why I stopped writing. Yes, I need a community to help me keep writing.

      @@PageandPodiumPress I'm structuring my novel as a series of interconnected stories. The first story has a memoir method outline. The second story has a 3 Act outline. The third story has a 3 Act outline. The fourth story has 3 Act outline. The fifth story fits nicely into the 12-step Hero's Journey outline! The sixth story fits into the 3 Act outline with a saggy center. And in the final chapter the villain is finally captured. Thank you again for your videos!! So helpful.

    Honestly, this is the best information I have seen or read that succinctly typifies what a memoir is. Until your video I had no idea how to portray my antagonist without transferring my intense rage onto the page and exposing their manipulative behaviors. Excellent question, @christinatillotson8270 ! This depends on the author's goals, audience, etc. I typically suggest the first BISAC code come from the "Biography/Autobiography" heading, but it's really a matter of thinking about who is looking for your book and where they will go to find it.

    • @PageandPodiumPress
      @PageandPodiumPress 7 місяців тому

      I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! I can't give legal advice, but I would take your contract to a literary lawyer. Unfortunately, many book contracts do not give the author legal authority to pull the manuscript, particularly traditional presses whose business model is based on continuing sales. A lawyer will be able to advice you on the best course of action, but I don't think you'll get far without legal representation. You may also be able to offer the publisher a buyout for your book, but I would not do that without a lawyer either. Good luck!

P&P uses Scrivener during development and drafting, and we love it! There’s definitely a point where switching to Word makes things easier, since Scrivener files are difficult to share with others, but early stages, Scriv is our favorite!
