Our relationship with the Lord is always first. Unless we place that first we can’t discern what God is really saying because we pass it through our own personal “filters” first. You just can’t filter God. If we have questions we go to the Bible and weigh them against scripture. Awesome Devotional!!

My dad used to take me squirrel hunting and fishing alot of great times. Wished I just did what you said and slow down and enjoy that time I had with my dad because now he's gone.

I enjoyed being outdoors with my father when I was a child. I very much wish I could walk through the woods with him again.

It is important to keep this faith, so we may remain united as a people. Sharing this faith with others, helps preserve our unity.

Thanks Joel! I came to the same conclusion the last year. I could have bought 40 acres in the White mountains last year for $35,000, but I will be 79 next month and like the fact that everything I need is close. 40 years ago I came home after 20 plus years in the Air Force and have been blessed greatly by the Lord. I was told my civilian job was only going to last 6 months but lasted 30 years. Because I work on old cars I wanted someplace with a workshop on a large property but I have a 10 foot by 50 foot side yard with tarp covers that work well for me. Plus my Mother will be 100 next month and still lives here in El Cajon on almost 1 acre by herself, so I am needed here. Jim

Joel, thank you for the devotional. Amen, God plants you where he wants you to serve. In my Wife and my journey, we've had many roles, USAF, Parent, Teacher, Mentor, Neighbor, and Friend. Our ministry changes with the seasons but God's love for us is forever. God's blessings from the Blue Grass.

Joel, what an amazing delight to discover this channel. I've been subscribed to Gun Guy for some time and had a suspicion your were a follower of Jesus. Your study in Matthew 6 is timely. In the course of life, we all encounter tests and trials where our faith and trust in the Lord is challenged. I think of Job's 'friends', maybe 'well meaning' but lacking in the vital relationship with the Lord. I think of Noah's friends and neighbors who 'advised' him for as long as 75 years that an ark without ocean is a waste of time. When we choose to 'let our light shine before men' we expose our priorities at some risk to our public safety. But all is good, we are in His hands! In my own study over the past few days, I came across two verses in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (ESV) 'We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.' The words of John 16:33 bring comfort: I have said these things to you, that 'IN ME' you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.' Excellent message! So very true. I am guilty of that. When I was young, I had that attitude. As I have aged, I have shed that attitude. God is perfect. We are not. It is impossible to try and corner God to do this or that thing in your world. I learned to humble myself before God. Ego is good, but when it is too large, it gets in the way.

We're reading Twelve Ordinary Men by John MacArthur at church. I want to re-watch The Chosen again after reading first-hand again about each disciple and the scriptural references about them. I want to compare the scriptural basis vs. that fictional items in The Chosen. Obviously with any fiction they're filling in details we don't have any info about, but I want to re-verify that nothing conflicts with scripture (I don't recall that anything did when I watched it the first time).

God has put a lot on my plate. But I have to trust Him that he's going to help me through it or if not, to help me see the lesson in it.

What a pathetic excuse for being the victim-turn it over to the cause (god) because you cannot handle the Reality you co-created. It is about personal responsibility-for thought, feeling, and action. Blaming things or relying on some fantasy of a Sky Ghost is NOT going to resolve things. If the premise is true (god), then it created your experience in the first place-so how does giving more power to it fix things?

Some time ago turned it all over to the Lord, pray, look for signs of his will, proceeding. Been an interesting ride, all obstacles dashed, path cleared. ...thou close calls. Evidently, God put me in charge of saving my family and friend.... ....along w countless homeless Soul's.
