Mortal Coil 3 String Cigar Box Guitar Build
Excelente trabajo Master !! ,siempre aprendiendo ,muchas gracias. Saludos
Love the headstock bro!
DIG IT!
Very nice!
What router bit are you using there?
Sounds better than I thought a two string gitty would sound. The gold looks right on it to
Get yo self a Robert Byrd Cigar Box 2 string chugger, 3 string, 4 string, Physco Alice orrrr just get all 4! Variety is the spice of life! Another great build. The Marine Corp EGA on the back is a nod of respect to a military brother. Gotta care enough to know your customer and give them a lil Lagniappe when possible. Sounds great as well!!
This video has been in my watch later playlist since shortly after you posted it. Good work and some great tips as I slowly make progress with my builds. I have basic hand tools and a few handheld power tools and limited space. The few I built look "authentic" as if they were built by an impatient non professional in 1930! Getting better though and having a lot of fun
Thank you! I learn something on every build. That is the key keep learning and keep building!
She REAL pretty!
Thank you!
It seems to me that it might be easier, more aesthetically pleasing, and more secure to add width to the neck, and use the bridge screws to secure the neck to the box. Of course that would mean adding the width after the neck is in the box, so scratch the easier part from my description, but still might be worth a try.
I have done it both ways. Both have their pros and cons.
Awesome, just awesome
Thank you!
It looks and sounds great! Are you going to showcase the one you received?
I did a FB video on it and my revisit it on youtube at a later date.
They look and sound good. I like the ebony accents. I just found your channel and subscribed.
Thank you!
I wonder if you could ghost a pickup inside of an ammo can.
Might be doable.
DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan both make single coil humbuckers that should fit super easy, look and sound great for that setup.
Thank you, I'll check them out.
Ask this question I have a 25.5 inch kneck and two 27 inch boxes .and a 27 1/2 ,cld you resets the kneck bck in to the box ,25 from nut to end of kneck at bottom cheers ,
The distance from the nut to the bridge is your scale length.
those are some sweet looking and sounding gitties
Thank you!
Awesome builds! You have discerning customers with great taste. You are definitely the guy for these builds. Get yo dang Robert Byrd gitty! You won’t be sorry.
Thank you!
Just finished my first "Ammo-Caster"... Made a few mistakes, but it plays good, or atleast as good as it can with a beginner ...
That's so awesome!
I was the lucky recipient of the second guitar. Great work! I love it!😍
Awesome! Congrats!
I snagged it. 😁
Nice! Enjoy!
Nice! Enjoy!
That's so funny - at 4:00 I'm thinking, wow, could you put the two lids together...? And then at 11:12 you're like: I'm going to put the two lids together!
Great minds!
Excelente trabajo Master!!! Saludos
Thank you!
Both builds are gorgeous. What watt is your laser cutter? I have two 3D printers and i rarely use both at the same time any more. I was thinking of converting one to do lazer cut/etch.
Thank you! I have a 30 watt engraver, sort of cutter.
Bro~SUPER COOL!
Appreciate it!
That is one fancy fretboard, great job!
Thank you!
Robert how and where did you get your logo designed for your CBG necks? any help would be appreciated, like your channel and helpful build tips.
Thank you. My brother had someone he knows draw it up in photoshop. I'm not sure if she still does design or not, I'd have to ask.
@@robertbyrdsguitars Thank you for your reply, i plan building for the next CBG build off.
That is a FANCY box, you do awesome work!
Thank you!
WOW WOW GREAT BUILD
Thank you!
real nice. i like the double lids the best
Thank you! Me too, I just had them laying off to the side until my neighbor started messing with them.
"IYAAYAS" Ammo !! love it man. I'm a Chief Navy Aviation Ordnanceman ret. , we're "IYAOYAS". My last tour in the Nav I was at Eglin AFB, the Fleet liaison for the AIM-120 AMRAAM working with the Air Force Ammo troops. Just started with CBG's. So far I have one Snowden and a Ellbogen. Great video, lots of good info on the set up.
Thank you! Wow that's awesome!
First time seeing your channel, thank you for the build background. I also thought it was interesting to see that you play right-handed and write left-handed. I have a very strange mix of things I do either left or right-handed, and this is the same for me, playing right-handed and writing left-handed.
Thank you! Yeah, I wonder if many people pick up on that and to be honest that's why I sign them on cameras... 😆 probably a product of being a lefty but being taught how to do things right handed.
brilliant idea keeping the neck straight to the box!! 👍🏽😎
Thank you! I struggled with this when I first started building.
nice, will be nice when you can show those
You could probably also tune that as a Tenor Guitar, which is the same tuning as a banjo, but an octave down...
Awesome, thanks. I would like to do one like that with nickel wound strings instead of nylon.
real cool man
Thank you!
Sounds like the solid body does help the sustain. Sounds great. The lightening bolts are killer. You need to do the 2 tone neck more often, great look! Get yo thunderstruck gitty!
Thank you! I think it does as well. More two tone necks are on the way.
Thank you! I think it does as well. More multi wood necks are on their way!
Robert this may be the best build I have ever seen. The thought and execution was right on point. For me you used a hardtail bridge and put the pickup in the neck position where the vibration is the most active and the multi wood lines really set it off. This is all the things I like and more. Well done Sir! Like and Subscribe to this man He's Earned it!!!
Thank you, that is so awesome to hear! I really like the multi wood design and plan to do more.
Where do you get the locking tuners?
Amazon has a good selection of locking tuners.
Amazon has a good selection of locking tuners.
never use paste flux . if you are soldering that will make the world explode .

Nice. What do you think about a bolt on neck? The box is certanly strong enough. I have a grandson who is really into vintage military stuff, and he plays guitar. Seems like a perfect blend. Thanks for the idea and tips! What is also cool is that you don't need to disassemble the whole guitar to get inside.
Thank you! I am not a fan of bolt on necks, I like the neck going through the box for a 3 or 4 string.
@@robertbyrdsguitars I'm just learning. I'd love to hear why. I'm finding out one reason first hand. I have a bolt-on from another misguided adventure. I thought just bolt it on and go, but getting it square is a challenge
The metal of these ammo cans is a bit thin and the neck would bend around too much...
@@mikehunt8968 The neck extends inside the box so the metal is not bending. Bolt on would not work for sure.
Excellent video, great camera angles. Good info! 🎸
Thank you!
What’s the estimate price for a two string cigar box guitar?
Shoot me an email with specs and I will get you a price.
Hi Robert, enjoying your video. Where are you in Virginia? I moved from the Richmond area
Thank you! I'm in Hampton, not far from you.
Well, I think this is the best way to use a amobox. 😍
Yeah!
Now that would go beautifully with my 52 Jeep Willys!!!
I think it would!
Very nice, I was wondering, where did you get the brass/gold pick up covers? Looks very sharp! Love the videos ! Thanks!
Thank you! I get most of my parts from CBGitty.com.
0:53 ... those Cohiba boxes can't be beat!! ❤❤❤❤ 1:57 ... I use toothpicks... same when I glue the fretboard to the neck ..
I really like Cohiba boxes I have a couple of favorites but Cohiba boxes are at the top of the list. Toothpicks, that's a great idea as well!
Great information, thankyou for sharing.
Thank you!
Clip On Tuner Bro
Have one, the pedal works better for initial setup.
