If you knew what is the meaning of the Chinte 'fist in the palm' technique, you would not need to wonder what is the meaning of the three hops. It is quite clear and rational, not some stupid 'jumping with an armbar'.

The real fuckup was going with point karate rules rather than knockdown karate.

Western sport karate is a great sport for both children and adults. It is rarely dangerous as very few schools train with real power (often quite to the contrary where "pulling" kicks and punches is drilled regularly.) Additionally, at no time are training matches held where real speed, power and aggression. This is why there are very few successful karate practitioners in MMA, forget the UFC. Incidentally, there are even fewer Aikido practitioners in MMA, for the same reason. This has given rise to Jujitsu experiencing dramatic growth: fully-resisting/attacking opponents. Ironically, US boxing and wrestling are incredibly useful in a real fight for the above reasons.

Even my sensei(who was one of the best in our country back then) told us how Sport Kumite these days is a joke....And honestly, I believe him with all my heart. Seeing this solidifies his point.

What a silly sport.

Jiyu kumite is meant only to be a platform to showcase one’s skills. Not to hurt your opponent. Those skills include being able to show an effective technique that if fully executed without control would take out your opponent. But jiyu kumite is supposed to be done WITH control. Many schools have taken it to various interpretations of “control”. However if an opponent is knocked unconscious clearly that is a lack of control. In no way is it the defender’s fault that he didn’t block the attack in any way. That’s a ridiculous rule and simply shows that said technique got inside the defender’s ma and caught them unaware. I agree with giving the gold to the defender in this match. Unusual circumstances sure. But he lacked self control and was justifiably disqualified. That’s just the way tournaments go

Why would you, go to a KARATE COMPETITION, and expect not to be knocked out? Like, sure, okay, he was knocked out, that's a shame and it cannot continue. But why would you disqualify the person who knocked the other person out? I get the rules, they're there to protect them, but this is a fighting competition where karate is used, why are you going to give the victory to the bastard who got himself knocked out? Even if it was a purposeful kick, how on earth do you expect karate masters to be so careful, when they are shitting themselves with the most anticipation that they've ever had in their entire life, that, when they throw a kick, which I must repeat, is a kick from a KARATE MASTER, the most powerful muscle in the body, from a *karate master,* that they would be so fucking careful that they wouldn't knock the other person out, when that person did something they don't expect. I get the rules, my teacher is very much one of these people, we spar, we grapple, we do sword fighting, but he makes it very clear to be soft, heavy hits are done sometimes, but protection is on. But for fuck's sake, this is something I cannot understand.

A clear 7:1 stand shoulld have been taekn into ACCOUNT BY AWARDING A SPLIT MEDAL, however, establishing a clear line betqeet full contact or light contact could have been made clear for all. I’ve been teaching Goju-Ryu for 25 years, bud, they don’t.
