Ford 8n breaks down in the field mowing. hydraulic lift 3 point hitch repair opening the top lid.

In this video, the Ford 8n breaks down while mowing grass in the field to make hay. After closer inspection, I need to repair the hydraulic lift arms that control the three point hitch. Thankfully, I am able to use the new Grimm Tedder to fluff the hay and rake it into Windrows with the old international rake, Before we have to tear the tractor apart. If your 8n 9n 2n etc. is having issues wi...

Do you still have/use this machine?
I would love to put my naa to work like this... your 8N sounds good.. great video
Reflectors are in the wrong location!
Sorry for my ignorance but what guage steel for the sides and floor?
1/8” if I remember right.
This is so awesome.
Same way I did my little shed floor. Takes all day but a floor you can work on is always an improvement.
Yeah what a difference it makes 😂
Very nice job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Man you aren’t scared of them big jobs are you!? Nice work as always! Anyone watching who hasn’t purchased a shirt is missing out btw I’m literally wearing it right now most comfortable shirt I own! And stylish too!
😂 mine is weirdly comfortable too! It seems to fit me right too which is rare, oh I should ad a link. Here too.
@@SteddieProjects yeah!
Trying to grab that strap was inches froM losing fingers or worse dude.
cut it too soon, a proper first or second cutting you shoot be shooting a bale out minimum of maximum of 8 seconds. we have fields that will shoot a bale every 2-3 seconds an thats each cutting
That hawk was lookin for mice running from that tractor! Great video!!! New sub!
Oh yes that air cleaner not good wish i could find a good used bush hog for my 35 mf might just purchase a new one
What is the hot water source?
The hot water is just tapped into our house, hot water with its own valve, and a drain valve in the basement. Come fall/winter time I blow it out with an air compressor.
@@SteddieProjects Thanks. So I want to put an outdoor shower on an exterior wall that has no dedicated hot water plumbed anywhere near it. How would I deliver hot water to that shower then? I guess I don’t understand.
I bought an 8n two years ago off a neighbor. According to him it sat 20 years. I paid $300, that is what he said it was worth in junk. It runs well now. He has another one that needs the engine rebuilt. He said I can have it for free. Thats my next project.
Awesome 👏 another one saved from the scrap yard! Use that old iron 😁
I loved how this turned out!!!
I used to bale with a old McCormick international B-47 baler and a IH 674 back in the 80s/90s, great memories 👍
Awesome 👏 good times😁
Thanks for getting right into the video instead of having like a super long intro like most people
Nice job. I have the same jig and got it from the same place. My instructions were not as detailed as yours though. I have mine all apart painting everything right now.
Oh nice 👍 that’s awesome 👏
Very informative engine swap video. Lots of repair videos on your channel, Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines and maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.
No real view of the PTO shaft ... so if you haven't already, make certain to convert that non-live PTO with the over-running clutch adapter. I've been pushed through a 4 rail fence while not knowing about the inertial effect of a bush-hog on a non-live PTO. Oh sure ... people might say, but there's a disengage lever ... but routinely that lever won't function with a load on it from the PTO. The adapter is not expensive and can save your life.
Yeah I have the pto over run adapter, with these 8ns it’s a must! Thanks! the info is always good to share though so everyone knows. 👍
It cuts poorly because you are going way too fast. Slow down. Let the mower do its thing.
Boy lucky you didn’t get serious injuries when the gasket blew but in a long run it gave you the opportunity to fix all those issues and now that should be good for a very long time!😀🇨🇦
Definitely hot oil came flying out but thankfully ok. 😀
I’m gonna grab me a shirt! The mean green looks ready to make hay! Long as the weather holds, time to bail it up!
The easy way is to take a hunk of 2x4 with the other front tire that holds Air drive it up on top of it and you don't need a jack. 👍 Yes definitely there were springs on the toolbox lid. Thanks Michael
Oh that’s a great idea instead of a Jack!💡 and I’ll have to see if I can find some of the springs. Thanks Michael!
You can really get yourself in serious trouble real quick with a tractor with a tricycle front end on inclines even shallow road ditches you can overturn them if you are not careful stay safe green horn
Yeah, I’ve seen some pretty bad accidents with narrow front tractors. I do have a wide front end on the parts tractor. Maybe I should swap front ends sometime. 🤔
my butt puckered when you were reaching for that strap.
I have a question I have a 1954 ford naa600 will this equipment work and if so what is the name of them all
Yeah the naa has quite a bit more horsepower, I have a mcCormick international Harvester 14 rake and a new Holland super hayliner 69. And I just added a Grimm Tedder to the hay lineup. And I use a Ford 501 sicklebar mower to cut the hay down.
@@SteddieProjects thanks
that chain hanging over that open PTO shaft is making me awful nervous
Yeah …… safety first 👍
Thread in reverse semi reverse or clockwise counter clockwise? Makita FTW! Also merch when?!
Merchandise should be ready soon!
Awesome. This brings back memories when I was a young teenager out in the field all day loading bales of hay on the truck for cash 😁
Yeah it’s definitely a nostalgic feeling. 😁
Thanks for the confidence boost! I'm trying to get started baling, and was worried the old 8n wasn't going to be up to the task.
Yeah, just take your time and enjoy the process, if your in a rush the 8ns will struggle. But they can definitely do it! Best wishes!
When I was a kid growing up my dad and uncle cut hay with an old tri frame John deer and we rakejwd with 8N then baled with that old Jon deer trip frame. Used both tractors to pull trailers to haul hay from field to barn
Just ordered that Jig from Just 8Ns. thanks for the tip Noticed that my Lift when in the lever is in the up position I have to move the big lever almost all the way to the top to get the lift to even start going up.. And it goes up vary slowly. when the little lever is in the down position it doesn't even work at all. Also noticed the oil in the gear /hydro case the oil is clear at first but after running it it becomes a slight milky texture.
Nice 👍 i love little tips and tricks shared to keep these old tractors running!
A ton of trees? 2000 lb of trees? A ton is a specific amount of weight! Not a generalization that has no meaning!
Your right 👍
I love watching the 8n work
My best friends dad farmed with an 8n, did it all with that tractor. I have a 1949 8n I am using and slowly rebuilding.
👏 awesome! 8ns are great, keep ‘em running!
Pressure testers are your friend
For sure!
Eddie ! That is amazing work day you had , keep it up with your working ! Rebekah Tuckey your aunt becky
Thanks!
Where did you get the rocker panels I have same issue dang Chevy issues ..
eBay! Takes a little looking but type plastic or slip covers in the description when your looking. I think they were pretty cheap. And a easy fix. 👍
I was thinking when you were saying the baler hadn't missed a single bale, better not say that when I am baling and not missing bales I don't say anything seems like if I do it will start missing bales and I've been baling hay for many years, had several different balers and they all will miss bale eventually
😂 lol! Yeah pride comes before a crash I guess, looking forward to next year with the new more powerful Oliver 88 row crop for baling.
How’s them teeth not moving while tractor in gear?
Was the PTO off then? There’s a small switch under the seat to shutoff
Ain’t no way I’d clean that sickle bar by hand while the tractor is idling.
That’s a good idea, you’ll probably keep your fingers a lot longer 😂
I have the same engine on a trash pump. It can sit over a year and start first pull. Stupid reliable!
Yeah it is surprisingly reliable! We’ll see as time goes on, but I’m pretty happy with it.
I’m curious how large is the field in acres? Going from 115 to 15 bales is a big difference.
It’s roughly 2-1/2 acres give or take.
It's a corn cob elevator that's why there close together. The slats
Ok that makes sense 👍 thanks for the info😁
Brilliant down to earth videos, they are my guilty pleasure, you are a great watch 😊 keep them coming and I can keep watching 😂
Thanks! Positive feedback is always encouraging 😁 thanks for watching!
I literally live right down the road I would have so helped pull you out! The 7.3 is itching to pull its first Chevy out the mud! Plus I’d do it for the kicks! Good video mister!
Lol! Getting pulled out by an excavator is less embarrassing than getting pulled out by a ford. 😂
@@SteddieProjects 😂 yeah I have a hard time just being the driver in a ford!
My brother had that same sink in his old house. They loved it. #1 2.55 #2 2.45, clean Alum 0.40/lb Stainless 0.30/lb lt iron/hms-prep or unprep 0.055/lb cars 0.0575/lb batteries .15/lb ac coils clean and dirty 1.25/.90. Looks like NY pays a little better on some, worse on short steel. I went last week, I got $12.10.
Wow thanks for the prices Jim! Ok I feel a little better, I know Tin/long steel was even higher a few weeks earlier. But had been dropping every time I went in. Thanks for the info.😁
That truck did surprisingly well with summer tires on it.
Yeah, 😂 I was surprised too!
Since you put the original air cleaner on there, you're probably sucking a little bit too much gas because of the resistance of the oil in the air cleaner, so you might have to reach your car rare on fuel side.
Read just your Car.b
That makes sense, ok I’ll try running a bit more lean on the fuel side. Thanks 👍
ear corn you could every other paddle out for hay
That’s a good idea. I wonder if hay would go up OK they had a mini round baler on that farm it made round bales the size of small square bales.
