Silence On Narcissus | Mothership RPG | Character Introduction
Listening to this episode with my headphones on -“Tony’s gonna stare at Harper for the remaining 45 minutes.” I burst out laughing in the middle of the convenience store in Japan. 5 Japanese people suddenly stare at the odd foreigner with muffins and sake in his hands.
😀
1:02:25 So the minotaur and Monarch are enemies. MKBH and Monarch are enemies. And finally MKBH and the minotaur are enemies. MKBH really is an enigma.
Machines building machines building machines building machines....
1:06:20 Absolutely bonkers. Why isn't Arkady disturbed by the fact that he apparently transferred someone out of The Deep that he's never seen before?
Old' Arkady's memory isn't what it used to be! 😃
That also explains why he seemingly(!) forgot to tell the newcomers about the golden rat rule.
54:40 It also probably knows WHY you're there, considering your "chance" encounter with the guy who directly told you that you're looking for the map.
It's great to include the timestamps, makes it easier to know what you're referring too. Cheers!
@@nwtbpodcast It's a habit of mine, since I tend to watch fairly long videos. :D
58:00 Or, and hear me out on that one, because it comes totally out of left field: Cryo sleep.
Fantastic stuff , loving Tony lol
48:40 This is a taunt.
8 characters. Who has the scanner!?
This is the sesh where the group realizes that out of all things, the rat wasn't homebrew.
You're smashing through these!
50:40 Yeah, they're starting to seem like a better employer than Mercer by now.
Clapping and cheering as soon as armand picked up the cigarette 👌 Is the iconic drop you've been using at 1:10:16 from freesound or homemade? Ive been coveting it lol
Here you go! freesound.org/people/smokinghotdog/sounds/584921/
Such visceral reactions to the colon descriptor! Love it!
They just cant get enough of Warden's colon!
I know the entire thing by heart, each syllable in the correct key
Nice.
I don't think you were too harsh on trying to reign in the comedy right after a horrific scene. You have tried to set a certain level of... professionalism for want of a better word, trying to set up an atmosphere and desiring a certain level of buy-in from your players to help maintain it. I have noticed how often you try to get them to make decisions quickly rather than contemplate optimal choices at length, but I have also noticed that they very specifically don't want to play that way. You are trying to cultivate a very RP-heavy style of game, and some of them do seem into that but some of them want to sit around a table and play a game. I'm with you. Even when I'm a player I try to just act on whatever the character's first instinct is based on the situation and what just happened in the round before mine. A lot of times other players will question the action my character takes for not being optimal for one reason or another (we all have our own ideas what that even means), but I agree with you that considering your characters' actions like you're making a chess move utterly robs the moment of tension and drama. That said, there is no wrong way to play a TTRPG and some players just have different expectations. Sometimes you may feel like a player is disinterested because they are quiet or don't engage much, when really they are enjoying watching the story unfold and only interjecting when they feel they have something to contribute. Sometimes you will have a player who is just there to crack jokes and make references and hang out with friends. What matters is that you as a GM and even as a player are comfortable with everyone's style of gaming at your table. In my experience you can't force players to feel something in your game. You can present situations and scenarios that you think will elicit certain emotions, but MOST players are too detached from their characters to feel it especially in a public moment with others around (and I'm sure knowing they're being recorded doesn't help). It really just depends on the player. You either need to cultivate your table to have the type of players who respond the way you want, or you need to relax your expectations and just enjoy the rare moments where everything comes together and you get some deep role play out of it. The best you can really do is lead by example and try to be in character and serious and emotive as much as possible and to pull them back into the game when they start going to excess in the wrong direction. I think you did kinda lose your temper in that moment, but you're only human and you had anticipated everyone being shellshocked from the room so the sudden moment of levity rubbed you the wrong way. It happens. Normally you are very good at just calmly getting everyone to refocus and be in character after you allow them to have a second to decompress, let's call it. I'm sorry this got so big, I have a tendency to ramble when trying to express myself. The TL;DR is that from watching these playlists it seems clear to me that you have a certain style and you want your table to respect that and I think that is fine. You are ALSO a player in this game so it should be fun for you as well. But you can't force it. Either a player will agree with you and enjoy playing the way you want or they won't. That doesn't make you unreasonable or them a bad player, it's just people having different tastes. The decision comes down to if you need to excise that player from your game (not your LIFE or EVERY GAME, just the one you are running) or if you can still enjoy the game by allowing them to have fun their way.
What can I say, pressure makes diamonds! 💎 Thanks for the thoughtful comment and expressing yourself :)
How did you guys get the portraits? Very cool episode!
Thanks! John was away so couldn't draw the portraits for this series, so these are just generated/photoshoped ones.
Just discovered this channel due to recently finding out Mothership is a thing. Love the content and the banter between the party, would love you guys to play the “Picket Line Tango” module at some point
You made it to the end of the campaign pretty quickly then, good job! I've heard Picket Line Tango is good
I've said this before, but your videos are the best looking productions on UA-cam. 🤩
Say it as much as you like! Cheers
This campaign is so damn good. I love how you do the visuals.
Thanks Troy!
Let's start a new drinking game. Every time the group's bickering and talking past each other causes my eye to twitch involuntarily, take a shot.
Get the bottle ready for this one lol, the end is worth it though! :D
Andrew: makes fun of Gordon verbally stumbling Also Andrew: "Is it filling... is it ticking your boxes ooooofffff... obviously it's a campaign. Are you getting what you hoped out of a campaign would be? For your characters?"
Incredibly proud of this immense achievement! can’t wait to see what you guys do next 🎉
Thanks Perth peeps!
Aww, that "intro" so heartwarming, know that feeling, when a campaign comes to an end. Well deserved, Mr. Warden 🙏 And was overall an amazing adventure with you guys. There certainly are some good other Mothership plays out there, but yours are among, if not the best. Certainly my favorite. Currently rewatching/listening all the Mothership-adventures of yours and cant wait for new ones. Thank you all so much for playing this game, for recording, being such an amazing team, players, Warden, and the fantastic post-production and editing 🙏 Personal favorite character probably Tony 💪 Will start Gradient Descent with my own group next week and super excited to see how and where that will go. The Deep has sooo much content and overall potential and... depth.
Well said, thanks John! Best of luck with your group!
This was awsome, cant wait for whats next
Absolutely loved this podcast. You’ve done an amazing job. You’ve done the Mothership RPG proud!
Such a good episode!!
commenting for the algorithm eh? 😄
Love the human moment when your daughter interrupted 😂 loving these episodes!
Many thanks for the excellent campaign and all of the team's work. Looking forward to the next one!
I’m going to run Year of the Rat soon and I appreciate this series for showing off how it can be run.
Release the rats!
I have mad respect for how you handle disagreements. The use of humor (music and the message on the screen) to defuse some of the listener's secondhand tension, while allowing it to play out rather than cutting it or pretending it didnt happen - I think it's just brilliant. The tension of Mothership games is palpabe, and the honest portrayal of its manifestation and resolution does your group and the spirit of the game justice. You handle the issue and immerse back into the story... thank you for handling it so well and with such respect for each others and your listeners.
Thank you! I agree that it can be stressful to listen to but most of the comments have been very positive, so bring on the arguments! lol.
Lets goooo you guys rock
Lets GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo!
Great job guys!
Found you guys when prepping for my own Gradient Decent campaign. Its been an absolute pleasure to follow your journey.
Thanks, we're pleased it's helping with people prep for their adventures in The Deep!
After 10 months of effort the UA-cam is finally complete! This has been a huge undertaking and I'm very relieved to finally finish this. I cant thank you all enough for all the comments and the support over the last year, from myself and Nobody Wake The Bugbear thank you!! We have sorted out a recording schedule for the first half of this year and we cant wait to start recording some new premium Mothership content and podcasts. We hope you're excited to listen to some new podcasts! Andrew will take a much needed break editing videos and then get back into it once we have a healthy amount of new audio!
The kazoo "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is so amazing 😂
I think the reason they get so confused is because THEY NEVER ALLOW YOU TO F'ING FINISH SPEAKING BEFORE JUMPING IN! ... sorry. It's just barely possible that in the course of GMing over the years I may have encountered this exact same phenomenon. Once or twice.
Tried out the app and some of the additional modules in it myself, and its really good, can recommend! Now they even implemented the feature to host a game other users can join. You have to pay for the addon, but i think thats very fair 👌
Damn, that‘s a great visualization! I‘d love to do something similar for my group. It‘s not a stream overlay, right? How has this been made? I just saw you used Magix Vega, but would you mind going into a bit more detail? The result looks fantastic and I wouldn’t have any idea how to achieve for example the audio source animation
As you mentioned I use Magix Vegas to put together the layers of graphics, the waveform animation is made in FL Studio and their ZGameEditor Visualizer. It makes a separate video which can be added to the Vegas project and blended in/synced up to the audio track.
love it! reminiscent of a quest in cyperpunk 2077
That computer terminal interface is awesome and a great visual aid for online. Would love to know where you got that / made it yourself
never mind, found the link
Glad you found it, thanks for watching!
How the hell are you even able to edit this. This is insane amount of work. Thank you.
Yes ☺️
I often hear "disadvantage" on some fear saves rollings, and I don't know where it comes from… if someone could enlight me…
Usually this is due to the Android's trauma response where all close friendly players must make a fear save. Damm Androids!
@@nwtbpodcast AAAaaaah I understand now. Thanks for taking the time. It is quite nice to follow your adventures !
(Maybe did I miss something) I thought they couldn't open the freezer's door ? Then at 57:02 they just open it like that…
I cant remember exactly but I think one of them just opens it with a crowbar or takes some time to unlock it.
You all rock, such a great job pulling off the tension and horror. Looking forward to running this on my first go of Mothership.
Thanks, good luck with your game!
This is my favorite episode of mothership so far since there is more frequent action encounters
Love the action stuff!
I've only listened to the podcasts. I love this video style!!!
Thanks, it's good!
