Agreed PB60 is an excellent blue. It's often said, it's not a "great" mixer but I find it mix's great when it's in good combination as with any color. It adds a distinct depth of realistic blue I appreciate and it may not be the most popular color in the gang but it holds it's own. Nice to hear you also see the value in keeping PB60. Best to all

oh gosh, I am so glad I am not the only person who had those problems with the watercolor sketchbook from Moleskine. I thought it might have just been a bad batch of paper. I also had no problem with the normal sketchbook. I really liked it. But the watercolor sketchbook's paper and binding just did not hold up. Mine also split in a similar way, and I could see the same weird damage to the paper in yours too. I feel you. It was way too expensive for the quality.

Just found your channel. I agree cobalt blue has always been a favourite of mine. But it’s quite opaque and lacks chromatic strength. Have you tried ultramarine green shade? I prefer its cooler tone and less granulation. Does Indanthrone have good lightfastness? In some brands like Schmincke it only appears as fair lightfastness. Good sky yellows are yellow ochres made of transparent yellow oxide, I really like the Daler Rowney one, or Winsor & Newtons Raw Sienna which is TYO mixed with a little T Red Oxide. They create a beautiful glow in sky paintings and are great mixers. Have you tried adding some Quin rose to the Pyrrol scarlet to get a hue of Pyrrol red, it would give you an extra space for a different colour.

For me the hahnemuele watercolors sketchbooks are the better I tried in years !!! Especially the 100% cotton ones ! I use the one on the video for black ink and the 100% cotton for watercolor !

Sennelier gold ochre is a pretty nice maybe Daniel smith has something similar

I picked this set up for a class a couple of years ago not realizing what the Inktense product line was (I only used them for 1 project as watercolor wasn't my thing.) More recently, I started to actually learn watercolor and picked up a set of pricey tubes (I'm an experienced oil / acrylic painter already.) I couldn't quite figure out why the set from a top brand didn't live up to my little Derwent travel set. I now have a set of Inktense pencils on the way.

Hello, a few years ago, I felt I needed all the expensive colored pencil sets. I had prisma colors, poly chromos, and Koh I noor, and Derwent. I soon discovered that I felt bad using them up. I regret buying all these expensive art supplies. Just because I didn’t use them.

10:29 For starting watercolourists, van Gogh by Royal Talens, rather than Cotman, is a great start. There is a 15 half pans set for around €15 and the colours are transparent, vibrant and great for mixing (as opposed to Cotman) I love the little Cotman plastic box, though 🤭. 12:41 So sorry to see the Rembrandt set on the list. I have used it on pulp and cotton watercolor paper (not mixed media paper) and they are fine. Very traditional, not whooshy (like Qor). Maybe change papers? I agree with Moleskine not worth the hype.😮 I ended up buying sheets of good Fabrianomor Arches 100% cotton paper and making my own sketchbooks.

PS 30:41 on the brush. You can wrap a piece of washi tape around the top that goes into the longer piece. It will fit perfectly well on the other part. 😊

15:52 On the Rembrandt sketchbook. Check the label that you removed from the sketchbook. If it says "Made in Italy" you might have part of the answers. There is also a very old and traditional papermaker in the Netherlands, Schut, which has been producing paper since 1618. Rembrandt might have outsourced the sketchbook to them. Schut does lots of private label work for other companies.

32:37 Hi! You can get best results on watercolour paper. The paper you used is coated and does not absorb the water, and it buckles. Paper is sometimes more inportant than paint when using watercolour. I hope you try them on the rught paper before you finally make your mind up. I have some Rembrandt paints, their granulating aet and the beautiful quinacridone orange (PO48). They are excellent and I hope to expand my collection with single pigments. I had hoped this would help me get a closer look. Thanks for the video

I always use like military utility bags. They usually come with many pockets and sleeves and have molle on the back that you could attack the pouch to the outside of my molle backpack. I use a tactical military backpack for hikes and usually throw my fishing baits and tackle, my travel size watercolor and sketch kit and water etc.

I second the Maxpedition case. I’ve been using that exact Maxpedition for years. I look at others but nothing I’ve seen comes close. Love it.

Use a mini Altoids metal box for the eraser,I just use a tiny ziplock bag, add a sliver of soap for washing the brushes, and a small sponge. Thanks for the video.

Yes, once you get spoiled using artist grade supplies, it's very hard to be happy with student grade supplies. We really are not saving money buying student grade papers and paints because we will not enjoy them, won't use them and end up giving them away. I started with Artist materials and Im spoiled for sure.

Blessings. I have some of these. The primary yellow is PY97. Not PY973. I find they are on the bottom of my 3 least favorite brands. Not liking them much at all. The colors are pretty though. Im glad I only have 5 tubes. I literally tossed the 6th one, a sap green into the garbage because It was so gummy and lumpy. All feel gummy to me. Since they actually flow fast well wet into wet is proof it has to have some kind of dispersant added that they are not disclosing. Because, otherwise, it would stay put like Holbein watercolors. Holbein doesn't use dispersant.

I have this set too and I just love it! I’m not an artist and I haven’t been using great watercolors (only cheap ones). I love Inktense pencils and have used them for years. I think maybe this set is not so nice for you because you have used to use different kinds of watercolors. I really enjoy painting with this kit. I also made layers and it worked out for me. Wonder if Schminke has a dot card for the super-granulatings? Mine were hyper-pigmented lol, but I only got a few tubes, they were early tubes sets that everyone was swatching (plus I knew the Schminke paints in those were highly pigmented). Bet Schminke would swap you your shire green tube for another tube!

So, if I paint with this set, what do I say the medium is?

Temu has a lot of great options for art protection pouches. They're heavy duty waterproof zipper pouches, folders & portfolios in lots of larger sizes. Very reasonable prices. I suppose the leather, zippers and sewing adds to the costs of pricier portfolios.

I used to stick to Arches w/c paper, till the price got so expensive. I switched to Fabriano to save a few bucks, and I was satisfied; I can't tell the difference. I haven't tried the blocks, as I only use full sheets.

Wet paper first, then apply the Inktense, dry, this then becomes permanent You can layer the paint …. Essentially this media is an ink pigment

I love the Khadi paper....I have various formats, and have found it wonderful for wet on wet....it needs a bit of patience to get used to using it,

Just a tip..wet the middle before you make the crease ...this will leesen the damage you do when folding and it really makes a nice crisp creàse

Golden yellow is also my favourite maimeri blu colour maimeri blu watercolours are my go to watercolour after trying schmincke,sennelier and dainel smith

Hi there! New subscriber here. Funny enough I’ve been compiling my own list of regrettable purchases to share and oh boy, was Moleskine Watercolour sketchbook at the top of that list. It should be called Moleskine anything but Watercolour. I also had similar experience with Khadi paper in the past but enjoy using their sketchbooks with handmade watercolours.

You should try rosa gallery paints, they're amazing

Moleskine watercolour sketchbooks used to be OK but the new paper is useless.

I love my set. I use it because if you heat dry it ( I use a hair dryer), it becomes almost translucent, showing the layers of pigment beneath. I will be looking out for the bigger set definitely

Still early in the video, I just wanted to say if you skimp on your paper or any surface not cotton. You must consider the added cost of adding additional sizing! Pulp papers seem to not hold sizing or it is not even put in/on it! I was given 100’s of sheets of paper and I wanted to use it! I was able to get a useable surface by adding sizing to the paper. I have also coated my free sheets with homemade watercolor ground! Do you use oil paints? Gesso the sheet and use it for oil studies! I have used a lot of papers for watercolors and you can stretch your paper and “rescue” it for watercolor painting with stretcher bars and staples!

I love my cotman watercolor brushes...they are underrated for sure..I specially love the small rounds for details because they don't wear out like the aqua elite (does anyone else notice that their hair frays at the ends after a few uses??? )

That Magnani is the worst cotton paper I have ever tryed. Khadi is bad too!

I also have a small moleskin sketchbook and I do not like it at all. Same issues with the paper pilling the moment I put water and paint down. The paint will not flow at all. Really avoid Moleskine sketchbooks. I now just use it for a quick colour swatch and even that is not great.

Great idea and very practical pouch. For the kneaded eraser, check out slide lip balm metal tins. They are thin (0.5cm aprox) and big enough for a kneaded eraser.

I'm a huge fan of Van Gogh Watercolors! Looking back as Hobbyist, I would have skipped over other lesser quality student grade paints if I had known about them. And I did loyally use the Cotman tubes and Grumbacher's Academy line for about 2 years, non-stop until I was able to afford better. But I did make them work better for me by using them on the Baohong Academy paper. That made the colors look brighter! I loved the music you used while you painted too! Thank You for sharing... I find your videos to be very valuable for me!
