Dr. Harcombe is brilliant. I could listen to her all day. I learn something new every time I listen to her.
My overeating was because I used to eat the wrong stuff, made of flour and more flour. Carnivore fixed it for me.
That's amazing 👏
Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed! 👍
This is why I have stayed with finger sticks and MDI (I know, old school - but really simple - at least for me) My range is 75-95 as a goal. I can go 10 above or below that occasionally.
You're doing a fantastic job on MDI! I wouldn't change a thing if it's not broken. For me, the pump works well on manual mode. I love my pump (pod). I've been a pumper for 18 years.
@@LowCarbandFasting Pump on Sister! :)
@@LowCarbandFasting Well also carnivore diet helps smooth things out too. I know - not a diet for everybody
So true! Had the exact same experience. Tried Ypsopump in auto mode, was a total deception. Using manual mode I'm like 98% in range (non diabetic ref. range ≤140), whereas the closed loop probably more like 85%, if lucky 90% "in range" (diabetic ref. range ≤180). They should stop using this alternative reference range anyway.
Thank you for sharing your experience! The main issue is the default algorithm in the pumps: the basal/bolus is set to around 50/50 and the target blood glucose is too high for most of us on lower carb diets! Nayiri
@LowCarbandFasting I think so too. I've seen low carbers doing well with customized open source looping. Would love to try this as well, but it requires specific pump brands unfortunately.
Yes! It is something I may consider in the future. My current pump does not support open source looping. For now, I'm happy using my pump manually. 🙂
Fabulous👏👏
Saved this to watch later. Do they talk about type 1? (I'm t1. Nayiri's t1 content is exceptional)
Thank you, April! ❤️
Hi Peter, thank you for saving the video. We discussed Coach Bronson's most recent book, Body Confidence. This conversation was not about type 1 diabetes. 🙂 Nayiri
is this also responsible for fibroids in breasts ?
I'm not sure, but I have other episodes booked to discuss women's health. I'll bring this up! Nayiri
I printed the document, and I'm taking it to my diabetes clinic next week. They'll probably shove it in some drawer But it's worth it!
Thank you, Peter.
Great news, thanks
well that is new info for me.
Dr. Angela Stanton is well-versed in this area! She's devoted years to researching migraines.
@@LowCarbandFasting Fascinating.

Thank you for watching, Scott. I've been intending to say this for a while, so here it is, in a public comment. I am sincerely grateful for your support. You've been an active contributor on this channel. I thank you with all my heart for watching my content and supporting my efforts! Nayiri ❤️
@@LowCarbandFasting Well isn't that lovely! Made me feel good. :) So here is a compliment back at ya. Your content is excellent - some of the best in my opinion in this subject matter. It just amazes me that your subscription base is not huge, because there is such great value in your content. Perhaps it is because you are not "flashy" or "entertaining"; I don't know, it just baffles me, but then I don't know anything about "promotion" in social media. As a doc, I find your content compelling and super informative. I have learned many things from your channel that I have not from other more "popular" channels. Thanks for your excellent work!
I understand that the idea of low salt in the diet was postulated by doctors as a cure for high blood pressure and that there was no research to back that up. Just another example of "expert opinion" being unsupported, but universally accepted. I would really like to see a video showing the good research that supports the idea of more salt in the diet as being beneficial. Most of the videos I am seeing are just again an author stating that no, more salt is good, but I would love to see the supportive science presented. Not necessarily by you, but someone who could really put this issue to rest. Just thinking out loud here. Love your work.
Thank you, Scott. I'll try to cover salt as an interview topic. I know a few candidates who would be good guests! I'll work on it.
Vegetarians, vegans and other carbohydrate addicts are partly to blame for the extinction of species. Forests, pastures and flower meadows are lost for arable land and seed oil production. This leads to an extinction of insects, then birds and so on.
Your points are wrong here. Not sure about where you are, but here in North America over 70% of plant crops are grown to produce food for animal agriculture. Only a fraction of that land would be needed if everyone ate a vgean diet. So even if you are right that combines routinely kill massive numbers of animals (you are wrong, they don't), then eliminating 70% of farmed land from producing food for animals would decrease the number of anima.deaths significantly. Another problem you have is that you allow perfect be the enemy of good. Less death, particularly less intentional killing is better than more death and intentional killing. Because you cannot eliminate ALL the suffering and killing of animals you simply give up and then intentionally partake in the torture and killing of animals? Doesn't make any sense. Vegan diets by necessity have less killing than an omnivore diet. And less killing is better. Health? Science is clear you don't have to eat animals to have a healthy, active and long life. Are there benefits to eating meat? Maybe. But it is very much unnecessary.
Humans, the only species on Earth that will deny themselves a species appropriate diet because they think it's morally "wrong."
I eat whole food, and seafood No dairy or eggs, and have for a very long time. It feels physically good to do that. Over time, it also raised my awareness for animal rights.
lol !!!!!!!!!!!!
Veganism and animal rights are about being fair to other animals when we can do that. "Fairness" in the context has a particular meaning though - it means we should try not to treat animals as a commodity and nothing but a means, while also striving not to be cruel to them. That's really why a vegan wouldn't buy animal products - the animals are owned, treated as units of production and often treated cruelly. As to animals killed in crop farming, that's bad and we should try to do less of that, but on average a person eating a vegan-friendly diet will cause less animal harm and death overall.
Many more animals are killed through crop production than through meat production. The amount of beef I eat in an entire year requires the death of just 1 cow, even if I ate as much as 1 pound per day. And all the beef I eat is grass fed & finished, and pasture raised in regenerative farming. I know not everyone does that or can afford to, but I try, as I am concerned about animal welfare. A heck of a lot more animals are killed through production of grains, vegetables, fruit and nuts, whether it's from the actual mechanical process of planting and harvesting, or poisoning via pesticides and fertilizers. What you said about people eating a vegan-friendly diet causing less harm and death to animals overall is the very "living in denial" Dr Harcombe mentions in this video.
Animal rights is new age, people should focus on HEALTH. Look at the wild life, an animal eats another one, etc. Without end, between those animals they don't think of animal rights, they just EAT to be alive lol. Any complains? Complain to god ! its what I always said. but we surely need to eat lol
@@lloydhlavac6807you are wrong. If crop agriculture causes the deaths of animals, that one cow you ate require much more cropland than if that person just ate plants directly. Over 70% of arable land is used to grow crops to feed to animals. 70%. So. No. If you eat a cow (or drink it's milk), you have at the very minimum all the crop deaths you cry about AND the intentional slaughter of the cow. So, no. You are wrong in your position that a steak only required the death of one animal (though crop deaths is not really a thing).
@@RobertEnleedanimal rights activists are not new age. Some might be, but being concerned for animal welfare is not inherently new age. And if health was your goal, then you would definitely stay away from most animal products, with fish being the only exception. Science is pretty clear that for longevity (a generally accepted proxy for health), more plants, less animals is the way to go. Findings are consistent. Repeated among various cultures, demographics and populations. Holds true in population studies and in controlled experiments. So health? Yeah, eat plants. But plants aren't magic. There are good vegan diets and bad ones. Just because your diet is vegan doesn't mean it is healthy.
@@jordanjtbraun My point was that animal rights do not exist. It's on someone head. When another animal eats another one, it just do what it needs to do. We do not live in a rainbow world. I agree certain methods of killing an animal should not be there, but at the end of the day, the end result is FOOD.
Now THERE is some straight talk! Bottom line is that every animal HAS TO kill to stay alive (other plants, other animals). Killing is part of our mandatory biology. So glad to see her note that vegetarians and carnivores just kill different things but we all are killing. It is obligatory despite our aversion to the idea. Great memorable clip.
Thank you so much for your comment, Scott. Zoe did an incredible job addressing this sensitive topic. As an ex-vegetarian, she understands the sentiments on both sides, and as an ex-vegetarian myself, I appreciated her thoughtful comments! Nayiri
@@LowCarbandFasting Yep I was veggie too for 16 years. Biggest health mistake I have made in my life and exacerbated my slow slide into atypical diabetes.
Are you LADA or insulin-dependent type 2?
@@LowCarbandFasting Ah ha! Neither. No signs of T2. No insulin resistance; very little beta cell function (tiny). No antibodies. Strong family history three generations. I am participating in the RADIANT study. I have not pursued all the genetic testing. Best assumption is "Atypical Genetic" insulin dependent diabetes. I think this disease is a spectrum with many "types" still unknown.
Fascinating! 🙏
You can correct lows with exercise. Natural glucagen rush
That's a silly gamble. It can go there other way!
If bacteria needed fibre to strive in, then wouldn't ALL the carnivore animals be dead by now? We all have a microbiome so what happens with the lions, wolves, bears, microbiome? I'd asked this question and your video is very helpful.
Fantastic interview, thank you both.

Sure, mono-crops are bad, and so is factory farming, cherry-picking the worst-case scenario to fight your corner is poor-quality debating. She also misses out completely on the fact that most mono crops are grown to feed livestock, so actually her diet is doing double harm. A good quality organic and ideally locally sourced plant-based diet is great, I thrive on it and at 64, I take no medication and have great health, am very active and look good for my age. Top athletes excel on plant-based diets and there is simply no reason on earth I would want to cause another living being to suffer when I have no need.
How can there be pages of professional athletes that are vegan with proof of the Gladiators of ancient times also being predominately vegan. Slaughter in no way is animal welfare. The amount of energy wasted in the production of animals is a terrible exchange.
Professional athletes are supervised and take supplements, they’re young and supposedly not vegan for a longer time. If your gut is healthy, you can tolerate plants as food. Gladiators were meant to die. Agriculture kills more animals than the consumption of animals.
I loved this! Ms Buxton is a great communicator and I appreciate her research!
Some choose to outright LIE on the internet for attention. 🙄
Terrific video and thoughtful comments!
Thank you!
I don't know 😮 My husband is carnivore, but I eat plenty of fiber. I am no longer addicted to sugars. I am healthier than I've ever been.
Some people have better capacity to tolerate or digest high fiber vegetables, especially when cooked. Nayiri
@LowCarbandFasting 👍
Not type 1 here, but here's a point for everyone to think about. We are all suffering anxiety. I watched an interview about it not long ago. Anxiety medications are one of the most prescribed here in the U.S. How about we think where that Anxiety is coming from? I would say the wrong foods we are eating is the reason!
I agree, Michelle. The toxic foods are part of the reason, perhaps even the main reason why we are all unhealthy as a society. Thank you for taking the time to comment! Nayiri
My problems were ibs and acid. Left me with a schatzky ring . Going carnivore sorted both out. If I add fibre back the ibs and acid restart.
Thank you for your comment 👍
Thank you Nayiri and Dr Cavan for this clip.
My pleasure. Please stay tuned. There is another interview with Dr. Cavan coming soon!
This a great synopsis and not too fast and pressured as is often seen with Dr. Chaffee's presentations. Really great.

Super Clear!!!
Yes! Richard did such a good job explaining and demystifying this topic. Nayiri
What if you are so sick you can’t even eat, cook or get out… I was eating great before it hit me like a truck… he knows Jack shit
It hit me like a truck, too - and I'm a certified health coach. I'm only just standing up on my feet again. It was something I never expected to experience because of my healthy lifestyle. I couldn't recover without the help of experienced hormone specialist doctors, like Dr. Wrigley. Have you seen the full interview? Nayiri
He’s talking 💩
I would not ask a man about HRT or menopause 🙄
I wouldn't either! However, if I need help and advice, I absolutely would consult a functional medicine doctor specialized in women's hormones with 20+ years of experience. I invited Dr. Wrigley because of the huge respect I have for his knowledge and work. He does not use synthetic medications in his treatments. He combines lifestyle changes with specific supplementation and Bio-Identical hormones (the latter two if needed). The gender of a medical professional and hormone specialist is not relevant to me. Their knowledge and expertise is what matters. Nayiri
Oh my, conclusion: just do Not ask advise to a man about menopause....
I don't think a random man from down the street will know much about perimenopause or menopause! 🙂 In fact, my GP, who is female in her thirties, did not know much about it either because that's not her specialty. I always seek reputable specialists when I need help with specific conditions. Nayiri
Bullshit! 🤬
What if you are 59 post-menopausal and your FSH is 236 and LH is 136, was told my brain is screaming for estrogen and I am on low dose BHRT? Do you have a suggestion on how to lower the 2 without BHRT??
I'm sorry you're going through a tough period. I do not know the answer, but Dr. Jay's details are in the description below the video. He is a functional medicine doctor specialized in hormones with over 30 years of experience. I recommend that you contact him. Nayiri
The answer is simple. For the ones who are determined to do lifestyle changes, don't prescribe any medication for those people. Let them try to do diet and exercise, have the right nutrition, and then, and only then prescribe the medication to these people if there are no results, then prescribe the medication. But Dr. Scher is spot on. At times when visiting my cardiologist, he has had at least 75 patients during the day. It's probably a sense of tunnel vison after a certain amount of time.
Wise words. Thank you for taking the time to contribute. Nayiri
Doctors receive very little training on nutrition and they don't value radical changes in diet to address health issues, whatever the diet is, be it Whole Food Plant Based or Low Carb/Keto/Carnivore. However what would help the Low Carb space is if quality scientific evidence that eating this way, for a lifetime, leads to health and longevity. If you look at the current research its very contradictory with some studies showing longevity affected positively while others showing negative effects on longevity of a low carb diet. Who to believe?
Nonsense. Many do all of that and they don’t sail through menopause
You can say that sir. You’re not having joint pains and hot flashes
I despise the moral position vegans take, pretending to be superior or virtuous for not eating meat. With my condition, I'd literally die on such a diet. I am meat based. The more meat based I go, the healthier I get. Plant based is massively inflammatory for me, so suck it, vegans.
Vegan in its purest definition is not a diet at all, but rather a principled position of being against the use and exploitation of animals in all areas (food, fashion, experimentation, entertainment etc) and living one’s lifestyle as such. Plant based is generally the term used for those who may consume no animal products, but otherwise participate in animal exploitation via clothing etc, and within that framework their diet can range from lax to super strict. I personally have been an ethical vegan and strict organic-only WFPB eater for over 35 years. I’m vegan for the victims.
Yes! Wish non-vegans would at least acknowledge the unnecessary suffering of animals. Let’s try to live in a kinder world.
It was for me!
I presume you meant that you had to go on hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Jay mentions that some patients need it. I hope it worked for you! Nayiri
Nice list of nuanced comments about the problems facing docs in the exam room. From my professional experience they are all correct. Just to speak to the patient side of the problem as well, many many many patients are not interested at all in lifestyle change to effect health. So even if you become an enlightened doc around these issues, many of your patients are immune to good lifestyle/dietary treatments or suggestions. Obviously I, being here, am totally on board with all of these good changes that can be made, but there is also some responsibility on the patients as well to embrace the changes that we are now seeing make such profound differences.
Thank you for your input, Scott. I agree that responsibility lies with both patients and their doctors. They need to work as a team. Thank you for being an enlightened doctor! Nayiri
Too many people including doctors still believe in low fat diets which usually results in an increase in grain intake.
Sadly, that is correct. We are doing our best to spread the message to those who are willing to listen. Nayiri
When I was diagnosed with TYPE 2 my dr. told me I could try carb reduction or I go on meds. He gave me the names of a few coaches to work with. I was lucky to find Nayiri. I'm in remission now. But it was my primary who told me about this!
I like your new look Nayiri. 🌸
