Middle grades books that your kids (and maybe you) will love this summer! ☀️🕶️🌻
I loved The Spellshop!! I still haven’t decided my favorite reads from 2024 but, I need to pick soon. Loved hearing your favorites and I added a few to my future reading.
Thanks for watching! I think a sequel to The Spellshop is coming out this year - here’s hoping!🤞
@ Oh!! I hope so!
I haven't read any of these books, but I have read and enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club books, so I will definitely be looking for the Osman one. I'm brand new to your channel, so I don't know which other authors you enjoy, so I'm going to recommend John Sandford. He has a long-running (30+ books) series starring Lucas Davenport. At the beginning of the series, he is a homicide detective in Minneapolis. I live in the Twin Cities, so the locales and pieces of "local color" are very familiar. Definitely NOT cozy, as the cases can be very terrible. But he's a very interesting character and I've enjoyed them all. There is also a spinoff series starring Virgil Flowers, a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent in more rural Minnesota. Also great. Happy reading!
Thank you so much for watching! I have never read John Sandford, but the series you describe sounds great. I will look him up! 😊
I’m excited that none of these are books I’ve read yet! Now I have a nice start for my tbr 2025! Congratulations on your first year and cheers to many more!🎉
Yay for good books to read! Thank you, and Happy New Year!
Katie, I love the presentations of the books you have read and also that you have a picture of the book on screen while you are describing it.
Thank you so much! I always try to make it easy for viewers to know what book I’m discussing, so I’m glad to know it’s helpful!
Thank you for this list. I love the mystery/thriller & Cozy Mystery genres, so I'm hooping I will enjoy these! Happy New Year 🎆
Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy the books you try. Happy New Year to you too!
Congraaatulations on one year! 🎉 The Spellshop was also one of my favorites this year, as you know. Our reading tastes are pretty much the opposite, but we'll always have The Spellshop. 🤣 Some other fave reads were Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks, the Dark in You series by Suzanne Wright, and All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata.
Thank you for recommending The Spellshop! We also will always have Thornyhold (the OG). And thank you for supporting my channel. I do plan to use the picture you made me in my intro - just haven’t had a chance to figure out how to to put it in yet, but I’m gonna!
I very much appreciate your recs! I read The Stranger Diaries by new to me author Elly Griffiths and loved it. I’m going through your recs and putting books on hold from my library. Happy 2025.
Don’t you love discovering new authors?! Thank you for watching, and happy New Year to you, too!
I read The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak. Good Book! One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware- was pretty good. Thanks for the recommendations. Congratulations on your one year anniversary! I loved Lula Deans Little Library of Banned books, not on your list but I really enjoyed it
Thank you for watching, and I appreciate the recommendation! I will look up the book you mentioned. ☺️
Hi Katie - congratulations on your first year and thanks so much. I’m just discovering your channel and I’m so pleased to have found you. Really enjoying how you give simple and enticing reviews without giving away the story. The genres you read and share on are right up my alley though I suspect you could read this week’s grocery list and I’d still enjoy it. Looking forward to many more years of your reading reviews. Happy New Year🎉 😂
Thank you so much for watching and leaving such a kind comment! Happy New Year to you as well. 😊
Happy New Year and congratulations on your channel’s first year! I’m glad I found you. I look forward to reading your recommendations!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you found my channel too. ☺️
Hi, 📕 56 Days by Katherine Ryan Howard is Great Read. Thanks for your list of favorites for 2024 Happy New Year 📚
Thank you for watching! I read 56 Days and liked it, but not as much as Run Time. Keep the recommendations coming!
Great video! Our reading tastes are so similar and I look forward to more from you channel in 2025
Thank you so much for watching! I love making videos and I’m looking forward to continuing in 2025. Happy New Year!
I read The Last One at the Wedding and enjoyed it, too. I also recommend a short novel called How Can I Help by Laura Simms and Cutting Teeth by Chandler Baker. Lots of good reading this year. Thanks Katie!
Thank you for watching, and thank you for the recommendations! ☺️
My top three ~ The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, Unruly by David Mitchell, and We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
We Solve Murders is sooo good! I have heard a lot about The Husbands and may try it sometime. I will have to look up Unruly!
@ Unruly is nonfiction and it focuses on the Kings and Queens of England. Listen to the audiobook if your library has it.
Found Look in the Mirror in a cruise ship library. Far fetched overall, but with a great ending.
What a place to find it! You’re right, it is far fetched, but I loved it!
Loved your list! Will def be taking most of these recs and I'm happy to use your Amazon links to support your channel 👍... My #1 for 2024 was Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan. Normally I don't even read classic fantasy, but maybe I'm converted. This one captured me! ❤ Also loved and recommend two middle grade books. The Princess Pumpkin by Steven Banbury. A sweet, whimsical Halloween story. And Hollowpox by Jessica Townsend. (The Nevermoor series is truly the closest to Harry Potter vibes I've come across). You and your little girl may enjoy them one day 😊 ... Have a Blessed New Year! 🎉💚❤️
Thank you so much for supporting my channel! And your middle grade recommendations sound great. I’m writing those down! ☺️
Happy New Year!
🎉Same to you!
So far I read, Secret’s you keep by Kate White it was a page turner! So good. I subscribed to your channel.
I’m so glad you enjoyed Secrets You Keep! Kate White has a lot of good books. Thank you so much for subscribing! ☺️
Awesome! I’m glad you showed up in my UA-cam algorithm!! I’m recovering from surgery and need books and authors!!! Yay! You inspire me.
PS-do you write, too? I liked your sense of story structure and writing voice notes on authors you reviewed!! :)
I’m so glad you’re here! Sorry you had to have surgery, but at least you get to do lots of reading. I hope you enjoy the books you try!
Yes, I do! I’ve completed a middle grade book that I’ve been sending queries out for, and I also just completed a cozy mystery. It makes me feel great that you can tell that from my reviews! Do you write?
Yes yes yes I understand your thoughts on “The Blue Door”…..The writing/ narrator kept me listening/audiobook…..but it just seemed so scattered with possibilities…..and it seemed to take a path of least resistance …..I thought the story was presented as intriguing it is opening segments and I believed this would be a real “who done it”….and blah…..
I’m glad I’m not the only one who disliked it. It was very disappointing!
I tagged you to do 'The Bring Back Browsing Tag,' created by Roving Reader. It's airing tomorrow (Sunday). Happy Holidays!
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
I read Paula Hawkins “The blue hour” and was very disappointed in it. It was a chore to read. I actually loved “The girl on the train” but really haven’t enjoyed any books after that by Hawkins. I also have read quite of few Elly Griffiths books and I agree that the first book in the Harbinger Karr series was best. The Second in series was good but 3 and 4 ,in my opinion, were not good at all. Is it possible to link ebooks?
I should try some other books in the Harbinder Kaur series! I will try to start linking ebooks. Thank you for watching and commenting! 😊
In 5 days you have acquired 2,500 views!! You are becoming an internet sensation!!!
You can say you knew me when! 🤣
The Perils of Lady Catherine De Bourgh sounds amazing!
The whole series is so good! (Also, I’m trying to be cool here, but I feel like a celebrity just commented on my video!) 😊
I have taught The Turn of the Screw. A lot of interpretations. Not a comfortable book. Henry James is king of the untrustworthy narrator. A very plausible interpretation is demonic possession. Look forward the Turn of The Key.
I hope you enjoy it!
@ I guess I am expecting it to be unsettling as per your reaction.
Thank you for this list and your detailed descriptions. This is my favorite genre, and it's difficult to find good ones just based on the published descriptions. I have subscribed & will continue to follow you. Happy Holidays!
I’m so glad you found my channel! Thank you for subscribing, and I hope you enjoy the books I recommend! 😊
This was soooo helpful. Thank you. I do have to say, though that woman who might swim naked in the Thames is asking for something nasty to happen in her body. It’s not very clean.
Katie, I’m so glad I found your channel! It’s a wonderful alternative to the gloom and doom political channels!😳 I am reading Winter Solstice after listening to one of your videos about cozy winter reads and I a, enjoying it. I can’t wait to read many of these! Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching and commenting! You’ll find no doom and gloom here - just good books. Happy reading! 😊
LOVE the Claudia Gray Regency series!!!
YES! The books are so good!
I koved Zero Days
Yes! So exciting and action-packed!
I’ve reserved Murder in Highbury - looking forward to it! You do a really great job of explaining the books without giving away too much! Have you read The It Girl by Ruth Ware? Unfortunately, I didn’t like it as much as I had anticipated I would.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy Murder in Highbury - I think you will. I love Ruth Ware, but The It Girl is not one of my favorites of her books. Zero Days is the book of hers that I like best.
I’d love it if you’d review my sister’s mystery, “May the Wolf Die.” It was just listed in NY Times best crime fiction 2024.
I will look it up.
Hi Katie! Great books! We love so many of the same books! I have We Solve Murders. But, your great description of it makes me want to move it up in my reading list AND the same with One Perfect Couple! I read and really enjoyed The Last Time She Saw Him! Loved Like Mother, Like Daughter! A Talent For Murder was a favorite for me this year, too. The Last One At The Wedding is a top 10 favorite of the year for me, too! And, I’ve added the Wyldecliffe Heights book to my long list to read….sounds great!!❤❤
We definitely have similar reading taste! I know you will like We Solve Murders and Wyldcliffe Heights. 😊 I always enjoy your comments!
@ Thank you, Katie! I love your videos and chatting with you too! I also forgot to mention that Look In The Mirror is high on my list, too. I really liked her book, The Family Game. Looking forward to all of these books. Have a great day! -Patty
Katie’s #1 fan!!
❤️❤️❤️Thank you! But are you going to read any of the books? 🤣
lovely video !!! love you and daddy
Thanks! I need to do another video with Daddy.
Namaste Katie Dodrill, i am in love with your channel and it gives me that cozy feel, I love love love it and yes I pile up my TBR as per your recommendations. Please keep making such enriching and fun videos, I eagerly wait for them. Lots of love from India
Thank you so much! I love knowing that someone is watching me all the way from India. I hope you enjoy the books you try!
I just got Murder in Highbury! Really excited to read it. I read the first two books in the Jonathan Darcy series and loved them both.
I hope you enjoy Murder in Highbury! I love the Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney series too.
Glad I've come across your channel! Def adding Last One at the Wedding! Not a NEW release, but if you like a twisty ending maybe try Defending Jacob by William Landay. My favorite mystery-thriller 👍
Welcome! Thank you for the recommendation!
I have not read the books you mentioned. Have you read any James Patterson or Ashley Flowers?
I’ve read James Patterson, but not Ashley Flowers. Thanks for the recommendations!
I love the Murder, She Wrote series. The emphasis is on the community and friendships. The murders are easily solved, very few twisted plots. Perfect when you want something more charming than challenging.
Sounds great! Thank you for the recommendation.
My favorite thriller is And Then There Was None. I loved the movie adaptations too. 😊
Can’t beat Agatha Christie!
I just discovered your channel and I loved all of the books you recommended. They seemed like I would enjoy every one of them. I look forward to more videos from you in the future.
Thank you! I’m so glad you found your way here. I hope you get some good reading recommendations!
I'm confused... a Poirot Agatha Christie mystery by someone else? How do they get away with that?
Agatha Christie’s estate authorized it. www.finebooksmagazine.com/fine-books-news/new-agatha-christie-novel-its-way#:~:text=The%20Agatha%20Christie%20estate%20has,British%20crime%20author%20Sophie%20Hannah.
I think you’d like this book. Paige Sheldon’s A Christmas Tartan. Christmastime has come to Scotland, and Delaney and all her coworkers at the Cracked Spine, the quirky bookshop in the heart of Edinburgh, are all in the holiday spirit. Between mugs of hot chocolate and nibbles of gingerbread, Delaney has been given the task of tracking down the provenance of a mysterious box of objects that her boss, Edwin, has recently acquired. In it are various trinkets, but what really catches Delaney's eye is a worn copy of A Christmas Carol, where she also finds an old photo tucked inside. On the back is a name, which leads her to a woman whose granddaughter has gone missing. When it becomes clear that the box might be connected to the missing girl, Delaney is pulled into the intrigue, and takes it upon herself to figure out what really happened-and why.
Thank you! That does sound really good! Added to my TBR!
For Christmas cozy, Try her "Envious Casca." It combines Christmas manor house with a locked room mystery
A very old one: "Why Shoot a Butler?" by Georgette Heyer (1930s) Definitely manor-house cozy, but some thriller elements.
I have always meant to read Heyer but haven’t yet. Thank you for this recommendation! Manor-house cozy sounds great for this time of year.
👋😊
Thanks, I’m a new subscriber. I enjoyed your DES reviews. Wish I would have found her years ago. But guess she came along at the right time for me. And as you said, she’s so cozy!
Welcome, and thank you! 😊
She’s one of my favorites! I’ve read quite a few. Didn’t think I would like Mrs. Tim of the Regiment. The first half was a little slower starting, but the second half (which was actually originally book two) was so much fun. That was this summer, now I just finished Mrs. Tim Carries on and it was really good. It was written during the midst of WWII, so it was really interesting how she brought it into parts of the book. I have a hard time choosing my favorite one of hers. I also really like her neighbor Molly Clavering’s books (among others from that era) I’m in a Facebook group for D. E. Stevenson.
I need to join the Facebook group! I’ve always heard about Molly Clavering but haven’t read anything by her yet.
@ If you enjoy DES, I think you would like Molly Clavering. Try Near Neighbors or Dear Hugo. They’re both very good and very different from each other. Dear Hugo tells the story in letters mostly (or maybe all of it). Near Neighbors has an older woman protagonist (and opens with the death of her domineering sister) and a family of young people next door.
I had not thought about Christmas in Georgia for years! Thank you for mentioning it!
I love Celestine Sibley! Sweet Apple was the name of her home outside of Atlanta (that I couldn’t remember on the video).
