THE WHO - Substitute LEEDS
Audio is The Who - Leeds 1970 [2014 Mix]
Video is IOW 1970
The Who performed two University dates for the purpose of recording a live album, having lost the patience to sort through the tapes recorded on the North American 1969 tour. The first gig, at the University of Leeds Cafeteria, in front of an audience of 2,000, showcased The Who’s live act at its finest. The original album featured only six songs, half of which were covers, and it would take years until most fans would hear the entire concert in it's full excellence.
Thank you to Monty's Vault for helping me find a good copy of this footage. He has a fantastic channel that you should check out @MontysVault
I apologize for the lack of variety in footage and a few out-of-sync shots. I hope something new releases eventually so fans will be able to see some new incredible peak Who footage and to make this an easier and better looking sync.

This is a fanmade remaster. I tried not to do a crazy amount of EQ'ing and polishing, but when I kept trying to listen to the album in full I realized I desperately needed a to do a full job and I wanted to unravel the low-end and guitar. This remaster is the best version I've heard of this album so far, but it still has issues. Overall the different studios, mixing, lack of mastering on it mad...

. Townsend's slashing guitar, Moon's attacking but musical drumming combined with thunderous bass and great vocals makes them one of the most exciting bands ever in rock history!
I was was there 1975 for Dark side of moon and backstage for the wall in 1980. (Had a friend that worked for a hydro lift outfit.)
Addison Terrace
Keith had unbelievable energy on the skins
Enwhistle on vocals and stealing the show
I don't know how Keith played so aggressive and made sense of the beat
Nothin" like The Who
Still a banger

No drummer is as fun to watch as Moon, and no one no matter how much flash and stick twirls will ever be.
@@benher973 Agreed, really wish there was more footage of him out there, he was one of a kind. Thank you for watching
This era of the Who is essential listening Tommy, live at Leeds (,full new CD) Who's next (extended)....The Who was right there on top...
15 yo, second concert, Syracuse War Memorial, Tommy. Welllll, i was never really status quo after that i tell you.
Their “Woodstock” Sound…
this song is really good
かっけぇ
Joey's song! Playing video games one handed kicking his brother's butts!
Thanks for this. Skillfully edited footage of these crucial '69-'70 dates. Someday I'm gonna take my Premier drums down from the rafters and drive the neighborhood crazy all over again.
@@johnmanning5193 Thank you for watching. You really should do that soon, Moonie would be proud. Cheers.
Fantastic show. I was 16 when I snuck into this show in '73.😊
The editing here is superb, especially if you pay close attention to Pete and Keith’s hands. Really great use of editing and the LAL’s sound is responsible for making many loyal fans of The Who.
@@Sparks523 Thank you for watching!
will someone ever dare cover this album?? who will step up and do a good job?
Keith era fabuloso!
If youd been there, within the first few seconds youd have known this would be the best concert of your entire life. Im talking about me by the way..

Great video. Thank you Bobby.

I always thought it was Uncle Ernie (Oliver Reed) who finished off (killed) Tommy’s real father. In the notes it says the real father killed the lover of the mother (Ann Margaret). I’ve seen this film approximately 50 times including the original release in the theater. But I have been wrong before. Anyone care to straighten me out?
@@bearswin1985 My conclusion from reading the 2012 Super Deluxe and other things on the internet, is the Ken Russel’s Tommy is different than the original album’s canon. In the original synopsis Captain Walker is presumed dead then comes back and kills the mother’s lover, I’m not sure why it was changed for the movie. In my eyes the movie doesn’t completely follow Townshend’s serious and meticulous rock opera vision, but I can’t fault it for that; most of the iterations of Tommy have differences. It’s still a really good movie in my opinion.
I always think the cover is Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants lol
The album is eternal
Thank you!
@@donjaniegulick8135 Thank you for watching!
Great!
My god this is amazing. The seamlessness from different songs and the continuum of feel and vibe - so moving
Amazing Journey is my favorite track on the album and Daltreys voice feels so much more powerful here then the album version. I just love his delivery of the lines and it adds so much more weight to the lyrics on the song . Also Keith moon is just on another level!!
I'm glad that I was able to discover The Who in 1969, when I was 8, with the album, Tommy. I pointed my speakers out of my window and my neighbors hated it.
Thanks for the GREAT music!!!
@@jonforti7691 Thank you for watching!
This song calms me down in ways my girlfriend will never understand 😂
first concert ever was Who at Village theater, later Fillmrore east---incredible and when they played there for a week we went to four shows, then at the Met, then at Woodstock--the body of work Pete has written is just monumental--my favorite live act by far
@@richierugs6544 Wow, you’re incredibly lucky! I hope this video brought back some memories for you, thank you for watching.
@@BobbysArchive thanks for providing it, one of the best Tommy's there is!
The drums sounds crystal clear😮😮😮😮
we eatin good today
Pete is surely my favorite to watch
@@richierugs6544 Him and Keith are about equal for me, so much energy. They both move like cartoon characters. Thank you for watching!
Dub Taylor is such a fricken Legend... Getting this quality and that much of the magic Floyds surround dynamics on two portable tapedecks ( usually both Mono, then mixed to Stereo may I remind) is nothing short of a miracle feat.
The first Punk Rock band? The Who.
Me gusta assaje
This never gets old. STICK FIGURE, STICK FIGAUUUUR!
I'm pretty sure it's sick for ya
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude me and my brother thought the some thing
Senza fiati è molto vuoto . Brutta esecuzione
Add tbis banger to spotify, it deserves a lot of attention, even if the band is over/disbanded
The band 1967 to 1973 were the marquee act in rock and roll. A feast for the ears and eyes. No band were like them.
