    I hope you will post the end of the campaign as well. :) I had a lot of fun imagining the archer and two guards stumbling over each other trying to get to you. Nice gameplay and good decisions!

    Excellent fight with the bear and very good management of the limited mana (maybe the next upgrade should be mana, with so many magic options :) ). The grimoire is fantastic and that Focus cube is just too good to be left unused because of a lack of mana. Really bad luck with the summon at the end. The loot in DNGN is really dangerous. A few small things/questions: - I believe there is no loot in the first segment of a new dungeon (please check). - I am not sure the inner isolated groups of unpassable hexes block line of sight. The ones connected to the exterior could be "walls", but are the inner ones "pillars or rocks", or are they "pits" over which an archer or wizard could shoot? They make almost no sense to me as "walls", especially on a tundra. They work abstractly as obstacles, but thematically they could be more varied regarding movement and/or LOS. - The Fireball - does it have to hit an enemy for the AOE effect? Maybe just hit a dungeon corner or a trap to make it explode and hit the adjacent hexes... it would be more valuable tactically. Please share your thoughts.

      Thank you for the kind words :) 1) I think you're right, it doesn't say anywhere to deal a loot card face down next to the first "room". 2) All the examples in the rulebook have no inner obstacles, but the text does refer to "the outer border", so I think you're probably right. Especially in a tundra 3) I didn't think so either, but after checking the rules, they say blast hits one target and all adjacent targets, which does sound like you have to aim at an enemy (?) Not sure honestly Thank you for your feedback, I have some more gameplay recorded already which I need to edit and upload, so next few videos will still contain those mistakes, I'm afraid.

      Thank you for checking these. 1. I had to read the rules again, as I was not really convinced :). Exploration Phase - "Deal a Loot Card face down next to the new Dungeon Card." As we can only deal a Loot Card during the exploration phase (last phase of a turn) and only for a new Dungeon Card, the first card cannot have loot (also, there is no Loot card in the setup example in the rules). Also, in Loot Cards - "A Loot Card is placed face down next to a newly laid Dungeon Card in the Exploration Phase, and may be revealed by an Adventurer during subsequent Exploration Phases." 2. Regarding obstacles: "if a path can be drawn that is not blocked by the outside wall of a Dungeon then it is in Line of Sight." I think you are correct - only "outer" obstacles block LOS, the inner ones should allow arrows/spells to hit. 3. In Action Symbols - "Blast - Perform an Attack Action against a Target Monster in Range and Line of Sight". So you are correct, again - a monster is needed as a target. Too bad. :) You are not making any real "mistakes" - I actually find the "no loot for the first room" rule a little bit strange and I ignored it myself in the past. I look forward to your next videos!

      I am most confused by the line of sight rule. It feels like this way, ranged enemies will pretty much always be able to hit. I found the way I did it up until now actually introduced a nice bit of strategy, where on any turn you have to decide whether to run behind obstacles and hide instead of always going in on the enemy.

      @SolePatrol404 I am glad to hear you are all right (I was worried you had to drop the videos altogether). I hope to see many more of your adventures, in DNGN and any other games (I am currently fiddling with D100 Dungeon World Builder and the new expansion on a tablet). Regarding the original campaign, I have not asked for his permission yet, but I sent him another message and he has not replied. You still have the link to my custom campaign PDF, so you could check it out offline. If the author would like to release it commercially, my version may hurt those prospects, so I am still waiting for a sign that he is still active.

      Nice! I have heard good things about D100 Dungeon, but have never played it myself, but it does sound up my alley. Barny Skinner did comment on one or two of my previous DNGN videos, so I am optimistic you might get an answer. For now, I intend to finish the core game campaign and then look at some different games for the channel, but I might return to DNGN at some point.

    As soon as I heard "strips of material" I thought of cloth or something similar. I assume the designer didn't want to be too specific because it can be used for inventive usage. So a more generic name lets you use it for more things.

    Couple of notes - there are line of sight requirements for ranged attacks, so the archers would need to stay where they could see you. Also, an option when facing the first two archers could be to back up into the room before where they can't see you, forcing them to come to you.

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 6 місяців тому

      Line of sight for ranged attacks makes a lot of sense - I must have overlooked that. That opens up some more potential for dodging and weaving. I was curious if I had played it right, as two archers already seemed brutal if they keep running away and shooting from around the corner :D Thank you for the tips!

  • @mikestegaru
    @mikestegaru 7 місяців тому

    Nice to see you play as the overpowered Bones! Maybe this character is so strong because it is the only adventurer who is already dead (not waiting to die like the rest of them - I see Bones as a joke by the creators of the game regarding all the characters we lost to monsters and traps in the past, coming back to "life" for revenge). :) The run was smooth, very nice decisions there, good fight with the Death Bat. However, surprisingly, this time I think you made your life a little too easy and maybe a little too hard at the same time: 1. Too easy: as far as I know, the Cursed Relic does not allow the use of the Holy Potion. At all. If you check the card, it clearly has a slashed Holy Potion on it. I interpret this as being really cursed (not only for die rolls) - you cannot get any cures for Poison and Blindness, neither at merchants, nor at shrines, fountains or via potions (except for Perception potions). 2. Too hard: the term Merchant is a little vague on the Cursed Relic (I use the same interpretation you use: actual Merchant). However, one of the designers, Gabriel Gendron, stated on the BGG forum in 2021 that the relic can be discarded at "Any "Merchant" card." (Merchant, Hunter, Fence). 3. Too easy (again): cursed rolls of 2 turn into X's (as there is no 1 on character dice in Mini Rogue). Manual, page 12, Curse. Aside from these nitpicks :), I look forward to your runs with the Thief and Cleric (I find both to be quite weak, so I am sure it will be interesting).

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 7 місяців тому

      Definitely felt overpowered! 1. Interesting point, I never interpreted the Symbol that way. The rulebook says: "When the Character picks up the Cursed Relic, they become Cursed, and cannot use a Holy Potion or a Blessing to cure themselves from this Affliction." And I always interpreted THIS affliction as only the curse. However looking at the symbols seems like you can't use them at all. I like the extra cursed theme that adds :D 2. That feels odd to me as well, especially because the other two are actual card names. Would make it a little less swingy, though. 3. I always just thought curse is a -1, but that makes a lot of sense, considering 5s don't count as successes with curse, either. I'll try to keep that in mind! Yeah, they sound a bit weak, and mainly not as unique/exciting. I'll see what I get up to with those. Thank you for the continuous comments and feedback!

      @@SolePatrol404 I have checked again and you are correct: you may use the Holy Potion to cure Poison and Blindness while having the Cursed Relic, but not the Curse itself. So your interpretation of the rules in was spot on! Paolo Di Stefano also confirmed this in a BGG forum post from 2021. I also sent you a BGG message with a Google Drive link to a DNGN generator xls I have been working on. I feel the game needs a little variation and can be easily expanded (as most of the high-level enemy cards are not used in the current campaign).

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 7 місяців тому

      Ah, I'm relieved. Otherwise that would've been brutal on this run, to not be able to cure the poison... Yup, just replied to you there. Good stuff!

  • @mikestegaru
    @mikestegaru 7 місяців тому

    I agree that the "Exhaust" skill upgrade was the reasonable choice. I feel you are moving towards a hybrid fighter-mage build, which will be interesting. Please check this in the rules, but I think you can use Mana and Focus cubes for any action, not only for the ones that specifically require Mana. As such, having extra Mana cubes, as well as your newly acquired skill that allows you to draw more Mana to the Action pool, can help when Stamina exhaustion kicks in. Lastly, getting at least one piece of equipment with some defense would help a lot (as it can also negate trap damage when you have to step on one of the nasty things). I am looking forward to your next videos! And good luck with your own game - I have also created a 12 D6 space game for myself that works quite nicely, including sector generation, ship-to-ship combat, away missions, upgrades, random encounters and systems... In spite of all these good ideas, very few of us actually manage to do what Barny Skinner did - actually publish the game. :)

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 7 місяців тому

      You are right, I remember reading that, but completely ignored it since. That makes a Mana Upgrade that much more valuable. I was planning to take one next anyways, because of the Fireball and that just reinforced the decision. Also, I hadn't considered armor against traps....for some reason my brain only thought about it in the context of combat. But that answers my question of how to prevent the "forced" traps that you can't get past otherwise. Great advice all around, thank you!

    Thank you for this playthrough, and thank you for mentioning my comment (and yes, you pronounced my name perfectly! :) ) I am glad you have decided to give DNGN a try. This game has a fascinating concept and I hope Mr Skinner will release the promised expansion (ie the original free PNP DNGN campaign, updated for the Core game version). The gameplay was great, of course, as I have come to expect from you, with every detail covered (although I would personally not consider pushing to the side to be possible... but you decided the wolf would push you into the trap, so that was that - you are in charge :) ). As you have already figured out all the rules, I expect this series to go very fast from now on. The campaign also becomes (a lot) more difficult, so I am really curious about the decisions you will make. My one suggestion would be to move towards exits and heal as often as possible - the longer missions will drain stamina at alarming speeds. Also, be wary of loot when low on health... Again, all the best from sunny Bucharest!

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 7 місяців тому

      Thanks again for the recommendation, seems right up my alley! Yeah, after taking a close look at the rules, it seems pushing/pulling always happens in a straight line towards/away from the attacker. Although I guess in that case the wolf would have used it's movement to set up the push (?). Yes, the time on this one seemed a bit more forgiving, but I can imagine it getting tight on future missions. Especially once you've lost so much stamina, that you can't move as far any more I imagine things go sour quickly. And what an ominous warning about the loot... All the best from rainy germany :D

      @@SolePatrol404 "Lucky" is just a nice way of saying that you were prepared and took calculated risks. You are modest, as this is a very hard game (the same luck argument was brought about FTL, while there are flawless real-time sequential runs proving that mastering the details is way more important than blind chance). One more thing: please post all your videos on the Mini Rogue BGG page in the Videos section. I believe more people should know about your channel, as you are doing some of the best playthroughs available anywhere on the Internet (and I have watched... all of them(?), I think, even the Portuguese, German and Italian ones) :). Very nice playthrough, as usual, but... those rolls! (especially the repeated X's) Have you taken your dice to the auto shop lately? Have you changed their oil, filters, tires and batteries? I also think I saw the Check Engine light on at least three of them. :)) I have had the same experience with the Priestess - infuriating, but... it's not the fault of the game. It's called Mini Rogue, after all. My opinion: skipping the three gold from the hermit was fatal - I would have used that option, as there was no better one. But, it's your game and I like how you take risks in this "really-push-your-luck" game. Otherwise, I would have played (and died) almost the same as you. Also, abusing the Witch's unholy ritual like that! :) I was amazed you had made it that far into the dungeon. Getting to Level 3 before the second boss is really nice, but the cost is usually too high. A last thing: I have just discovered this PnP, OSR, rules-light RPG called Caves & Catacombs (+Encounters [enemies] and Into the Wild [hexcrawl] supplements), quite similar to NoteQuest, but with a more serious note. It still needs some work, but the author is actively improving the game, talking to people and answering questions.

In order to mitigate that, I have decided to use the advanced infirmary - I cannot waste so much time just because the dice decide not to roll a single Tactical for multiple turns. It's a bit too random and in my opinion Deep Space D-6 should be more of a tactical game than one driven mostly by pure luck. The name of the ship is Japanese. According to the online Oxford English Dictionary, the correct pronunciation is /ˌmoʊnoʊ noʊ əˈwɑri/. Tony Go has written on a forum on BGG, I think, that he actually has fun hearing people try to pronounce it and never getting it right, which I find quite arrogant, but anyway... The name is composed of three words: mono no aware - 'the pathos of things' (you can find a lot of information about this on the Internet).

      @SolePatrol404 8 місяців тому

      Thanks! Yeah, the fact that you are pretty much helpless without tactical dice is the one thing that annoyed me. Not having any form of dice manipulation or re-roll makes it very swingy. Otherwise it's a unique and fun concept for a ship - you are right, this does seem like it pairs well with the special infirmary...I will give that a shot. As for the name, that is an interesting background and kind of funny by the designer :D

    Very nice gameplay! I am very glad you have started playing with the expansions - it is a completely different game, much more tense and diverse. I hope you try again with the Witch and also play with the other characters. I would have made the same decisions in your place. The much hated Crow becomes the only way to avoid landing on the Death Bat in the first room, especially when low on health/potions - in my playthroughs, that is always a death sentence. I would not have used it to get rid of the Wolf.

      Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I was already starting to come around on the Crow just after falling down so many times. But now with these strong enemies, I truly see its value. That Rat-Knight looking monster is another one I wouldn't want to face on low health.

    Great gameplay! I really enjoy watching your Mini Rogue and Deep Space D-6 videos during my long drives to and from the office (I can listen to them, as I know both games by heart). Please keep making these videos, they are very fun to watch! Regarding this particular Deep Space D-6 run, I think you actually did not lose on that final round, as the rules say threats activate left to right and top to bottom. As you drew the Invaders internal threat after Distracted, it would have activated first (top to bottom), but there were no units available to send to the infirmary, so the next would have been Distracted and you would have gotten your die back. I think. :) I also interpret the Scout damage as taking additional damage, even to shields, just to keep things interesting (otherwise, it is quite a dull card). I own both games and play them quite often (side comment: I strongly, strongly suggest you get all Mini Rogue expansions - with the Death Bat and Cursed Relic cards, the Crow, which I understand you rather hate, suddenly becomes a much needed friend ;). Plus, there are a ton of new characters and Lore Cards. The Wolf and the Forge and the Crypt and the Sentinel card packs are also great and add much needed variety to MR. For Deep Space D-6, I recommend the Endless expansion and the fan made Galactic D-6, which is excellent (campaign-style Deep Space D-6 with planets, encounters, worm holes and resource management). You can get it for free on BGG (I also posted a photo and a review there in a recent Galactic D-6 thread, if you are interested). Last, but not least, please check out DNGN: Core Game (2023) by Barny Skinner - I think it fits your style. Our tastes seem similar, so you might also like it - I believe it is one of the best compact solo tactical Print and Play RPG's (diceless, deceptively minimalistic (black and white), with a very interesting "AI" for enemies, and a simple but tense energy allocation system for character actions). It gets almost no coverage, which I believe is just sad for such a smart game. Also, in my opinion, Fortune, Fame & Glory is compulsory for all Mini Rogue fans. Please forgive the rant, but I would really like to watch your videos and hear your opinions about these games as well. Best wishes from Bucharest!

      Thank you for the kind words! I believe I realise the threat order thing at some point in a later video. As for the endless expansion, I do own it but thought I'd try the base game first. Good to know it is a good one and now you've made me curious. I was planning on playing DSD6: Long way home as a campaign after I finish 2d6 Dungeon...but I'll have to look into galactic D6 now. Do you know how the two compare? All the Mini Rogue expansions are already unboxed and I have recorded some footage, which I'll just have to find the time to edit. I agree, the variety is great and I love the lore cards. Lastly DNGM sounds cool and I am always happy about recommendations for these kinds of games...there are so many great small solo games that get little coverage. Even with DSD6 I only discovered it because I saw it on eBay and then looked into what that game even was. So don't hold back if you know great solo games. Cheers!

      @@SolePatrol404 Great to hear you are preparing the Mini Rogue Expansions for recording. I have already watched the Witch and am looking forward to more videos. Very entertaining (the double misses at the end were delicious :D - however, you are not alone, this happens annoyingly often to me as well). Regarding Galactic D-6 and The Long Way Home - the latter was never officially released and it does feel half baked. It wants to be a CYOA, with more detailed characters and lore, but in the end I found it unsatisfying. I did not spend too much time with it, especially after falling in a boring decision circle with an away mission that kept taking me back to previous steps. I took a dislike to it and that was that - probably shallow on my part, but do let me know if you believe it's worth it. Galactic D-6 is drier, but has a much better integration of the base game in the galactic map - it also has 72 cards (which means a lot of cutting and sleeving), and they are rather generic (Friendly/Neutral/Hostile Planets, Pirates, Tankers, Asteroids, etc) but the mechanics of the game are very strong - there is a push-your-luck factor that is very important to keep things interesting and you seamlessly switch from galactic exploration and hunting for fuel (the main concern outside combat) to Deep Space D-6 classic encounters (with a few very important upgrades and rewards added). It is deceptively simple and yet exciting and even stressful at the same time (especially if you end an encounter with lost hull and shields and/or with units in the infirmary, which stay as such until you land or repair/recover them in the next battle). All in all, I believe Galactic D-6 is a great way to provide depth to the base game. It is also very feasible to generate quests online (with a Sci Fi Adventure Generator/Oracle, for instance) and add flavour, but it is very solid on its own. Regarding DNGN Core Game, please take a look - I don't think you will regret it. I have not seen anything similar and it's wildly interesting (again, a lot of cards to print, cut and sleeve, but it's one of a kind). As for suggestions, I will repeat myself and mention Fortune, Fame & Glory again, alongside Iron Helm (and the insane amount of expansions), Barbarian Prince (I suggest the Gontijo Edition for compact size), Barbarian Vince (very cool concept and very easy to record on video, as it only uses the cards themselves), Star Drifter and the menacing Citadel of Blood (forgotten grandfather of Four Against Darkness, in my opinion). :) I hope you enjoy at least some of these games and, who knows, maybe even record some of them. I will surely be watching your channel for your latest videos. Cheers!

      @SolePatrol404 8 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for the kind words and the comparison of the two DSD6 adventure games! Yeah, I was worried about The long way home being half-baked. When I went to download it from the publishers website it said something about a re-work coming soon, so I got the newest version from Boardgamegeek instead. Who knows - maybe that means there's an official release on the horizon. After your previous comment I took a look at DNGN and bought the game immediately - looks right up my alley. It is currently sitting on my desk waiting to get cut out. Iron Helm is one that's been on my radar for a while...however TGC is quite pricey to begin with and shipping to Europe is no joke either. And then there's german VAT. So I will probably save up some money and order several games from them at once at some point, that way it only hurts once :D All of the other suggestions are much appreciated and who knows - some might be featured on the channel at some point.

      Great. Looking forward to your next videos. Iron Helm and most of its expansions are available on PNPArcade if you are willing to print and play. TGC is extremely expensive (Romanian VAT is not much better than German VAT...), so I have Iron Helm printed and sleeved. Also using a very nice tracker from BGG instead of all the tokens, and the official playmats (which are actually great and can also be printed). Happy gaming, I hope DNGN is a good recommendation for you, and also hope to see many more interesting games on your channel.

    Hi there! First of all congratulations to your 2d6 Dungeon playthroughs, watched it all and really enjoyed them. You are doing a great job playing the game! A couple of things to note (hopefully I am right and don't confuse you ...) You stated that the game might be to easy, you might read page 16 'Special Unique Rooms' where you have to meet the Boss in the last room of a level if there are any %rooms on that level. So I think @L2, L4, L7.... there are 'Boss rooms'. Pouches: You can put multiple -same- things in a pouch, no problem. When finding -lets say- Malako leaves you can roll a D3 to see how many of them you have found (I asked this on bgg and the designer told me that this is correct). Treasures: I believe that everything other than Gems are sold half prize, this is not clear in RAW though.... Might have to ask on BGG for that, the designer helps out on that very quickly. Anyways. I hope you are going to finish the game, really waiting for the '2nd' half or so. Keep it going, D.

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 10 місяців тому

      Wow, thank you, that means a lot! 1) I realized the boss room thing not too long ago when recording, I'll talk about it in a future video (don't exactly know which one it will be). Luckily that was before L7, so at least I only missed the L2&L4 bosses. Bummer, still. 2) I must've completely missed that...that means herbal remedies can be used a bit more liberally, I suppose. Very nice! 3) Oof. The treasure thing is a definite buff for this playthrough. That means I've been getting double the correct amount of coins. I was afraid of that but couldn't find exact wording in the rules. And because treasure items are really only there to be sold, I thought it makes little sense that the given price would need to be halved. I'll have to think about how to correct that (seems hard at this point) apart from doing it that way from now on. Thanks again for your comment and pointing all of this out to me! As I mentioned, some more footage is already recorded, so it will take a few videos until I can apply these corrections :)

    • @SolePatrol404
      @SolePatrol404 10 місяців тому

      Yeah, would've been more fitting. My thinking is, that as per the rules rooms are allowed to directly border each other (so it would've been 4x2) and I am just drawing them in smaller to have my map look nicer. So I don't want that to create small rooms artificially. On the other hand it would be weird to come across some big fight in a tiny room because of that :D At least in this case it was just a flooded chamber with an enemy that didn't drop any coins or amazing loot.
