It’s a local region paint called acrylo. You can try using mr hobby blue destiny colors instead of you want. But you might need to tweak it a little to your liking(make it lighter/darker)

Yes I used the Mr hobby brand liquid masking. There are two kinds. Orange bottle and teal bottle. Orange bottle has ammonia in it, so it can’t be used over Waterbased paints. Teal bottle is Waterbased, and is safe for all paints. It can also be thinned by water and applied with a paintbrush as it will wash away with water. I used lacquer paints so my paint layer are safe.

The paints I used are the ones listed in the color guide of the kit’s manual. So you can check there for the complete list. Most of them are from Mr. Color brand. They’re lacquer paints.

Nope, B16 is installed. Though it’s painted grey, so it might not show properly unless the angle is right or if zoomed in. There might be some pics in my IG from other angles that you can check out. Or I could always post one with it visible(I might not have posted all of the pics that I have in IG)

IPA is Isopropyl Alcohol You should be able to buy it locally for cheap. Try getting 91% alcohol and up for easier paint removal. Usually they sell 70% alcohol and label it rubbing alcohol, it’ll work but might take a little longer and more scrubbing with a toothbrush to get the paint off.

Haha yea 😅 I’m glad if it motivates you! This kit is basically a near 1:1 conversion from an old resin kit of the same design. So I guess that explains the parts not lining up properly 🤣 Do check out the reference videos in the description as well. Though I need to warn about the buster launcher connection to the waist that has a gap which needs to be fixed. And I apparently didn’t record and included it in the video. Apologies 🥲

Bad idea. When you clean your nubs later by sanding you will damage the paint. And you’ll have to touch it up, which means more work and it’ll look pretty bad 😅

What if I just don’t sand and eat the nubs?

Well if you don’t mind nubs then sure. As long as you’re happy with the results, that’s what matters in the end.

I’m gonna buy a cheap old hguc gm and paint it this way. I’ll post it if it comes out decent

Haha yea scale model kits are like that 😅 These kits are not like gunpla kits which are designed to be very easy to build and doesn’t require paint(most of the time) or glue.

does this one requite a lot of work? i'm looking to get into the macross series soon. i have built plenty of gundams straight out of the box. do you recommend i just get the new macross kits that are prepainted? thanks in advance

@kidrobot. The amount of work needed can be seen from the video 😅 You will need to be familiar with painting and glueing kits to be able to build it. AFAIK there are no new pre painted macross model kits

Wet sanding is usually done to reduce dust. But it also helps in reducing scratches which is the main point in this glossy build.

Sure I can but it won’t do much for curved shapes. Also the original side of the tapes aren’t that clean cut and sometimes has small/super tiny tears that will give jagged edges and not as clean of a result. Cutting on my own will reduce the chances of that happening.

I think they only made battroid kits from the SDF macross series. Not sure why, but they only made fighters for the other series. Not even gerwalk modes are made I think 🤔

Thanks man, Yea definitely pre order the reprinted ones in 2024, 4 of em in total. Aaliyah OP version is more or less the same with this one I made, difference is it has a few more weapon attachments in both shoulders 😁

The head visor? Yes its included in the kit as a colorless clear piece. I used clear fluorescent green on it. You could use any other clear paints if you want.

Oh man, imaii is way older than this i think 😅 Bandai did bought some of their molds and repackaged+rereleased some of em though. You should give Hasegawa kits a try 😁 You’ll do fine I’m sure

@@casualplamo Just ordered a Strike Valkyrie. I had doubles of the older IMAI kits so I decided to make some of them. Started by making the VT-1D, then made some minor modifications on the VF-1A and VF-1S. But there are some very obvious scaling issues, but as you point out, the IMAI kits are old. 😆

There are magnifying glasses(wearable or the type that has lights and clamps to the table) that you can use. Most people that are into the model kit hobby especially the scale model kits(tanks, fighter planes) are generally older generations. So don’t worry! Have a look at some options and give it a go 😁 it’s not impossible for you.

@@casualplamo I ended up getting one of my own and i just finished it. I have not been having that great of a week but its a good note to end it on even though it is overshadowed by other events I still feel like I managed to do something as minor as it is. Thank you so very much for inspiring me.

Haha don’t worry about it man. Just set it aside for now. If it’s not broken, then it’s fine. And even if some parts broke, it can be cemented and fixed later. Just don’t lose any parts 😅. Level up a little with easy kits like gundams, learn some painting skills, etc. And you can always go back to the kit in the future. 👍

Koto is reprinting 3 of the older kits, due out jan ‘24. White glint, Gaea, and malicious if you haven’t pre ordered them yet 😅 Hopefully more will come.

Between an HG and an MG. Since it has no inner frames, but it has a high number of parts. For snap fit builders, it’s not as good as recent years gunpla. Visible seamlines and not very color accurate. For painters it’s a nice model kit, shouldn’t have any trouble building one. Very solid, although need to be careful posing since lots of thin parts but that’s more to the original design than the kit itself. Some parts need to be cemented so you won’t loose it and for solidness. Not a problem for painters, could be for snap fitters. In the end I think it’s for intermediate builders/painters and less for new straight build snap fit builders.
