so many steps 😂 let me watch 1000 more times. thank you for this video!!!!
@AlexisCarlton trust me, the dedication will pay off, and you'll best assessments! Hope the best for you and welcome to the Transportation Corps!!!
One of the things to keep in mind is that a mirror image is not a true image. It is an angled reflection which each eye sees different. This is called the "parallax effect". The mirror image will always be seen differently then a pair of eye looking directly at the rear of the trailer. Additionally, you have no depth perception with mirror use. The longer the trailer the more the parallax. With some practice you'll learn to compensate for it, but you'll never get rid of it.
@@dw7094 valid point. Something i could mention in another vid
CTIS is another one of the Army's idiotic concepts. CTIS becomes a temporary fix for a malfunctioning CTIS or a flat tire. As long as the air compressor can keep of with it, actual repair will be deferred until the next service.
@dw7094 it's intended purpose was a traction control assistant by automatically deflating or inflating the tires to help gain surface traction in different types of terrain like gravel, sand, mud and snow. The operators won't have to get out and expose themselves to enemies while they take 3-4 minutes per tire to air down. Its secondary purpose was during combat when the tire is riddled with bullet holes, it will pump air in while you're on the move, so you can get to a safe location to change the tire
I guess you wear the helmet in case you bump your head?
@dw7094 Honestly, it's just one of those dumb Army things in this case. Never seen anyone hit their head without that extra 3 inches on top of them. When the students conduct the task, they are supposed to wear the helmet for when they climb on the vehicle for 30 seconds, or get under it. So if the students have to do it, the instructor has to wear the same to ensure the entire standard is understood. I personally try to wear that thing as little as position 😅😂
Very Helpful, Thanks
@badkarma2369 always glad to be of assistance
Why would you have the option to Run an FMTV tire Flat? FMTV Tires dont normally have runflats in them, they got Beadlocks
@KSI_Revelations it's a mode selection used for combat situations like bullet holes that a beadlock wouldn't assist with
@Whogives2shets Gotcha ! Also, I work in the tire shop 😀 We build all the Millitary tires for all vehicles, We take the old tire/wheel and put new ones on. To put it simply
ITS AN OLD TOY BUT HIGHLY RELIABLE. 🙄🙄🙄
I joined the ARNG at age 42. Going to Basic in Feb then AIT after that. I’ve been a CDL driver for 12 years now. Heard rumors they could potentially sign me off early if I show proficiency in driving/ inspection/ documentation etc. is there any truth to that? Thanks, love your content. ✌🏼
@Therealrickybobby. you sure can. It's a program under ACASP (Army Civilian Aquired Skills Program). Talk to your recruiter first so it can be put in your orders, however, it will reduce your training by a week. On a side note, I don't recommend it for 2 reasons. #1 stay a few extra weeks and make a few extra dollars. #2 Army vehicles and their operations are significantly different than anything you have likely encountered on the Civilian side. Stay the extra week and a half and learn some new stuff😁
@copy, yeah I signed a ACASP that’s how I’m able to go in as a E4. so it will reduce it from 6 weeks to 5 weeks?
@Therealrickybobby. it should, yes. I would always advise to double check your orders and make sure they are aware of your status. It is the Army, trust but verify 🙂
@@Whogives2shets thanks for being so prompt with your response. It really means a lot.
@Therealrickybobby. I keep my notifications on for just these times😁. Good luck and welcome to the Transportation Corps!
GREAT VID, Do they have any manual transmission trucks at AIT ?
@Therealrickybobby. no, sir. The Army got rid of all manual trucks in the early 2000s. One less thing for a soldier to be trained on and worry about in combat. I do miss them, though. So much more reliable when there was less to malfunction
Hooking up your airlines before connecting your trailer and performing a tug test is insane as a commercial otr driver that’s a no no. Because if you tug the trailer and god forbid it doesn’t lock in and you pull forward your chance of tearing off the lines if pretty high
@@robertjohnston6387, I definitely disagree with the doctrine we teach from at the AIT. It comes from a time well before automatic slack adjusters so that you could test the brakes while connecting. If it rolled away, that was just the extreme way to know the trailer was no good. However, the schoolhouse won't change it😒
Really enjoyed this video SSG Browning. You did a really great explaining everything in detail. Could you make another one with 915 or 916, whichever one is available because their is a cable in front of the fifth wheel and also demonstrate how to hook and unhook from one of the big flatbed trailers that you can load a truck or bulldozer onto? I think it would be very helpful to all soldiers.
@michaelankrumii8925 glad it was helpful! I PCS in a few months and will finally be back in a position where in around trucks and start making videos again😁. I will see what I can do about getting to an actual 915
I really enjoyed this video and gonna be reclassing to an 88M very soon. Good information to know prior to going to school.
Hey SSG Browning! I really enjoyed this presentation. Is there any you can do a video on the during PMCS and another one on the after PMCS. I think it would helpful to myself and other troops when we're around the vehicles.
@@michaelankrumii8925, I hope to one day return to a position where I can do these videos again. As soon as I do, I absolutely will😁. I PCS soon
To free up a stuck wheel, switch the MTV to 6x6 mode. This method will successfully resolve the issue 90% of the time. Before attempting to get the vehicle free, ensure there are no structures behind that could be damaged. Begin by turning on the vehicle and confirming that the transmission is in Neutral. Then, press the Mode button, which will illuminate a solid-colored light, indicating that you are now in 6x6 mode. This technique is effective not only for 4x4 configurations in an LMTV but also works for other vehicles like the 8x8 HEMETTs and 10x10 PLSs.
@marvino9115 I wish I had added that step into the video. You are correct. Many times, that has worked and I totally forgot to mention it
If there are not faults found on a particular item that is being inspected is a signature still required? TIA
@@TraciJoslin by the regulation, no. However, check your local SOP because most BN and CO like to know who inspected the vehicle in case issues arise.
Or just put no new faults lol

good video. wondering why sometimes you have helmet and safety glasses on and some times you don't. thanks.
@King_TuTT if I was under the truck or climbing on it, I wore the protective equipment like we try to tell the JR Soldiers to do as a good example. I honestly don't always wear a helmet when I'm under the truck but never get under them without eye protection. You only get to be unlucky with your eyes twice till it's over if you know what I mean😉
In our CDL class to do the alley dock, we start at a 90 degree angle, a 45 is ez.
3:16 do you really have to get out and visually check to see that your fifth wheel is aligned with the king pin? I've never been in the Military before but I've been a Truck Driver in the civilian world for 13 years and I've never had to or felt the need to do this when hooking to a trailer. Of course there are times when the trailer is sitting too high and I have to get out and raise the landing gear a little to get the apron of the trailer on the fifth wheel. Also why do you hook up the air lines and pig tail before you're actually hooked to the trailer?
@benjaminbowman1276 , unfortunately, yes. The standards at the school house vs. actual practices don't match very well. However, the intent is for them to consider all factors of alignment so the don't back the 5th wheel into the trailer too high, too low, or too far off center so that it just hits the slide portion on the back of the 5th wheel. This is just the way the school house makes sure the student understands that concept instead of assuming the student is considering those factors and they are actually just going through the motions. They are informed that in a real-life scenario, they will have to do these in various ways and make corrections situational dependant. 🙂

Honestly at my unit we only have 915’s but being a Mike atleast for me easy job. Depending on unit etc you get a lot of options for schools etc take advantage of everything!!
now I want a truck like this!
Pretty good trucks when you take care of them
Informative. Thank you.
That looked like a lot of turning for the landing gear. See which gear its in high or low.
It was in high. Just very heavy and old😁
Who signs inspector or signature?
The supervisor or person who confirms the fault signs on the signature block UNLESS the commander is overriding a deadline with a "circle x" to use the vehicle for a one-time mission.
Very interesting, they don’t like to be touched that way. Very informative presentation. Obviously this one is more detailed, than what that other guy on Instagram shows. He says just get a cav scout to do it.

Is there a good website to find TMs? For some reason there's no physical copy for the vehicle I need it for
There sure is! All the vehicle pubs you evwr need can be found on: www.ldac.army.mil/ You have to find so eone in maintenance, supply or S4 that can give you system access. Then go to the tab requesting it and put their name in. You will only be able to pull minimal TMs till you have access
@Whogives2shets thank you🙏🏾

It is an amazing job. Check into and go see a recruiter if you're interested in joining the Transportation Corps
How can a thick tire like that get a leak I thought they were made out of Kevlar puncture-proof
Unfortunately, none of the military standard tires are Kevlar. They are very puncture resistant, with most of them being 16 ply walls. The inflation system works to help keep cost-effective equivalent to "bulletproof" by having a mode that consistently pumps air in if there's a large or small leak so you can get to safety.
@@Whogives2shets thanks for explaining that to me and thank you for the good job that you do
@davidstark6507 always glad to assist 🙂
That's cool I don't own one but I learned something tonight from you thanks a lot I appreciate it
SSG this was a big help thank you.
Always glad to help!
I might end up using this video as part of a class on pmcs next drill. I notice too many incomplete 5988Es. Most people just end up pencil whipping or quarter-assing pmcs on their vehicles and then complaining that stuff never gets fixed (although to be fair, MATES does tend ignore a lot of issues that aren't critical).
I still use it every time I do drivers training even though I hate hearing my own voice😅😂. One additional thing that helps is teaching new troops what the vehicle parts are. You would be surprised how many people don't know a single part underneath that hood/cab and how it works to know when it's not working how it should
Thanks for making this! its helps so much in my training course ! Wish I could help make more videos if your ever intersted !
I always welcome new ideas for when I can start making some again
Would you happen to know if there is an 88M MOSQ reclass course in the Fort Hood (Cavazos) area, SSG?
There is not, Sry. The National Guard has one in Fort Johnson (Formerly Fort Polk)
@@Whogives2shets I see, thank you, SSG. Would you also happen to know the locations of 88M MOSQ reclass for the reserve side? I understand you’re active duty, possibly. Just thought I’d take a chance at asking, SSG.
@Jtheman2022 Reserves can go to the NG locations. You can find them in ATTRS but the ones I know off hand are Ft Knox, Ft Leonard Wood, Ft McCoy, and Ft Johnson
@@Whogives2shets Thank you, SSG. I really appreciate your time. And one last question. How long is the MOSQ reclass, off the top of your head, SSG?
@Jtheman2022 I am always glad to help where I can. If you have a CDL before going to AIT, you can qualify for ACASP, which would make it 4 weeks. If you don't, it's 7 weeks of training

All US military tactical vehicles are automatic now. One less thing for an operator to focus on but it sucks for maintaining
