Radiomaster MT12 EdgeTX - 4WS Four Wheel Steering
Another tip on how to set up 4WS with Drive Modes on the Radiomaster MT12! Buckle up, because we are getting pretty technical with this one... Feel free to pause or slow the video down. Also feel free to ask a question in the comments below!
Note, if you need to trim or reverse a servo, I suggest doing so in the Outputs screen and leaving the Mixes alone.
Another note, instead of turning the Global Var into an Input and then using that Input as a multiplier in the Mixes, you can also directly use a Global Var as the weight in the Mixes tab. I recently re-learned that after making and posting this video... Let me know if you want to see an update to this video with that method of setup instead.
As you may be able to hear, I also added Special Functions to play audio files for the different modes, but, I didn't go over how to do that. Originally I wanted to wait until there were official sounds to post directions on how to do that. I've opened a request with the Official EdgeTX Sounds team to add the sounds there, but until then, here is a GitHub link for the audio files I made:
github.com/jakezilla/FourWheelSteerSounds
Add those sounds to your SD Card and add Special Functions to play the tracks when your Drive Mode is active.
Here is my request on the official EdgeTX Sound GitHub; you can keep an eye on that and see if/when the sounds are added:

Just a quick video on setting up Motor on Axle with the MT12. I've already posted a video on this, but had some suggestions, and this is the update! Note 1 - Make sure to calibrate your ESCs without any overdrive active. Note 2 - Most modern ESCs will calibrate just fine with full throttle being 100% or -100%, but if yours doesn't, you can invert the channel on the Outputs screen. 00:00 Intro a...

SCX24 Furitek Lizard with stock brushed 88T, vs stock ESC with 88T

After running a friend’s crawler with the Furitek Iguana brushed ESC and FlySky Noble radio, I was wondering how the Lizard brushed motor would feel with the stock radio. The low speed functionality is just outstanding with the Furitek. The lack of whine at low speeds is super nice too. Eachine VR D2 Review Part 2 - Antenna Comparison
Thank you! Going to make a twin motor shafty and this gets me all set up.
Thanks man, I have been fighting this for several days now and couldn’t find a way to do this. I was almost going to just buy a Flysky and let my local hobby shop set it all up. You saved me a bunch of money!
Is the issue with ch1 in pwm receivers still ongoing? I have a servo that won't work when my ER8 receiver powers up, plugged into ch1. But if I unplug and replug it in to the same channel after reboot it works. I'm about to move it to a different channel today to see if that works.
@@PeteQuad as far as I know they (Radiomaster) have not make any running changes to the design. It is not able to be fixed in firmware.
@JacobScherer Darn. I moved the servo to ch5 and that problem goes away but the steering is working like a switch instead of a smooth servo, despite mirroring every setting from ch1 in mixed and output. I think there is something different about the upper channels.
Channel 4 worked though and my non programmable servo worked in ch1 so that was my workaround.
@@PeteQuad Glad you found a work around! I wish they would take the issues with this system more seriously. It doesn't seem like they are actually interested in growing their surface RC business...
@@JacobScherer probably true. I did find out the problem with ch5 is that it is meant for "arming" which has to do with flying vehicles. I can move that function away and use ch5 now. This transmitter is if you want to get into another hobby, which is ok with me, but most people will (and should) stay away.
Would love to see if there was any difference on elrs 500 LoRa , f1000 isn't great in noisy environments
Was on the fence but this doesn't look good for multi protocol.
Such a shame it doesn't work with the ANT protocol. All my cars, trucks and boats are on my Flysky G7P.
@@arnoldtm31 it would be nice if they added the ANT chip to the multiprotocol module! It doesn't seem like the aircraft guys are too keen on doing anything for the surface guys though, so I don't see it happening unfortunately.
Awesome. No way a normal person could figure this out.
I have watched this darn video 14 times before I finally you added a insert after channel1 My config has been driving me crazy! Thanks for the videos.

How did you get the traxxas to bind as I have 2 of the same receivers and the light goes green like it binded but it doesn't bind
@@jesseharless24 At the time I made this video the Traxxas 6519 protocol did not work properly and I did not have it bound in the video.
@JacobScherer oh OK I didn't realize you was using the tq remote I was so fixated on the rx 😅 my bad

i assigned my t4 trim switch for a 2way switch like in your video. on the monitor the switch works fine but the trim still moves and beeps. is there a way to disable this trim movement and sound? thank you in advance
@@michaelrajca6043 you can change that in the Drive Modes tab. Change the 4th 0 to dashes.
@@JacobScherer i did that and the trim doesnt move any more but it still makes the beeping noise
Thanks for sharing this info! Any chance you have Futaba receivers to test the latency of those?
Do you have any data on how much latency the 4-in-1 module adds vs the manufacturer transmitter?
It shouldn't add any. The 4-in-1 is the same chip and the same configuration as the manufacturer transmitter so the RF portion of the system is identical.
Would be interesting to see what the Numbers look like with telemetry off
lets say we use switch (SC) as a toggle between the different drive modes, using an edge logical switch, .5 sec press is mirror steer, 1-2 sec press is rear steer, and 2-3 sec press is crab steer. my problem is that it doesn't "toggle" it,i have to set a duration, and i have to wait for said "duration" to pass before i can toggle another mode.... i wonder if i can use the sticky function... how would you go about it?
Thank you for all the effort you invested into this : Very useful and very thorough work! Well done!
and how do you get your transmitter to voice the drive modes? I have every audio setting on that i can find.
I did a similar setup on my MOA a fear years ago on OpenTX, with stick radio. Used left stick to ack similar to the pot you set. I must say that your setup is WAY simpler than mine, the logical switch on throttle is a great idea!
So I hvae figures out how to set the T4 as a channel for dig but the problem I run in to is that I can not adjust the travel of the servo like I can for the 3 pos SA switch? Am I missing something? The output menu has no effect like it does for steering and the other dig servo set to SA.
Did you ever find the answer for the team associated 1/28th rc ?
I haven't seen anyone successfully bind it unfortunately.
how can I set on of the dials to override them all modes or make a mode on the trim so I can manual use the rear?
Same question
THANK YOU, i would never do this on my own
Wow I was actually kind of anxious to setup my MOA cause it was a PITA on spektrum... But you made it super easy! Thank you sir!
No problem! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I'm a fan of your videos!
@@JacobScherer 😄
It's funny I was thinking " mirror" also then it dawned on me... it just simply 4WS. Thanks a ton for making the video I watched your video and @donoldsneffe video on 4WS. Both were helpful ❤ I believe in real life use the SA switch would be superior for ease of use Down = FWS Middle = 4WS Up = crab And drivers choice of P2 or P1 for rear steering. I haven't figured out how to make the crab happen yet 😂 And right now I can rear steer with P2 but only if I'm in the SA middle position Any thoughts?
Call me pedantic, but to me they are all 4ws, lol
ArminRC is German, he produces videos in english and he has some good videos too. He and I have shared some ideas such as how to assign dual rate and expo to the pots.
I am interested to see how to put expo in the pots, have you got a link please
Is your base controller the 4in1 version or the ELRS version? I'm trying to figure out what version of the radio I need for approximately 30 RC cars with varying receivers but also want long range with telemetry. I was looking at the ELRS version but not sure it does other receivers than RadioMaster. Thanks!
I've got the 4-in-1 and run an external ELRS. Other manufacturers like BetaFPV make ELRS, but yeah, ELRS can only bind to ELRS.
Thanks so much for your quick reply! 4in1 it is then.
Right on man!! Such a good demonstration!
Great video. Thanks for the clear explanation. I used to run a Fly Sky G7p on my MOA. I didnt care for the radio much. Not very intuitive to set up. I was considering the NB4 as a replacement. It looks like this will do everything I need and save $100, so thanks for that lol.
Awesome video👍🏻
Thank you!
@@JacobScherer you deserve it, excellent video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video. Easy to follow along. Thank you! I used this to set my Bully up. Only change I made was using the "SA" three-way switch for my dig & burn.
Thank you! Exactly what I needed for my TRX4. Liked & Subscribed! 👍
Any advice for using abs?
Thank you very much that all worked. Now do I have to set up a separate trim switch in order to trim the rear servo to straighten it out a bit?
❤parrallel your battery supply so both escs have the same voltage
I noticed that when you use T4 for dig it doesn't beep. Each time I use T4 trim for dig it beeps and voice says trim centered. I would like to turn that off.
You can turn off the trim function in the drive mode screen. Change the 4th 0 to dashes.
Got it, thanks for a great video!
Is there a way you could send me the file I know I’m making. A stupid mistake but can’t get it right
Thank you for an awesome latency video 💯👍🙂 Do you know if there are any other ELRS receivers that can be used, that does not have the issue on channel 1 and 2?🙂
What wait...I see I have to read up on that Radiomaster. It can use different receivers 🙈💯🙂
@@kenneth_jensen Bardwell said that he has been told the next batch of Radiomaster PWM receivers will not have this issue, but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere. And yep, any 2.5GHz ELRS receiver will work, that is one of the beauties about the system!
@@JacobSchererthanks, I saw the video while being focused elsewhere. So didn't heard about the batch 🙈 But sounds promising 👍 We have to investigate about that next batch 🙂 BTW: That Spectrum was interesting as they are shipped with Axial crawlers. But only with a 2 channel sender. Så if you want to fully use the receiver you have to minimum buy their 5 channel sender. I would then rather buy this Radiomaster 🙂
Hello Jacob, I ordered this transmitter for my MOA. Your video is a great help for the setup. Can you provide the backup file for this model? With copy & paste there is less chance that I will make an error... :-) Thanks for the video, W.Scherer (Cologne, Germany)
Hello. To be able to set up a failsafe for the Radiomaster R85C receiver, you need to rebind it with the Radiomaster MT12 in the mode: Type: FrSky X Subtype: D16 or D16 8Ch How to do this, see this video - ua-cam.com/video/0oKKthoreJM/v-deo.html (but do not forget to select the type and subtype that I wrote about above). For binding in D16 mode, the receiver will produce double flashes. Then the Failsafe item will appear, where you can select its mode, for example, Receiver (then when you long press the Bind button on the receiver, it will remember the position of the gas trigger and steering wheel, which was at the time of the long press of the Bind button).
Thank you for the message! I know that with nearly every RX you can set the failsafe, I was testing for default setup. In my opinion, it is irresponsible to ship a product without a default failsafe of PWM value 0.
@@JacobScherer I completely agree with you. That's why I rebinded the receiver to D16
Have you tried to connect to any new furitek python RFX 2in1 ?
I believe that is ANT based, so no go. I could be wrong though.
@@JacobScherer I know nothing about all this shit! But I ordered an MT12 4in1. Hoping to use it for all 10 of my rigs!!
@@jleftbrane Furitek says it can bind to FMS FCX24 and SCX24v2 radios, which aren't supported by the MT12, so I don't think the Furitek will bind either.
I wonder if in the future there is a possibilty
This Video is awesome I have my Ax 24 all programmed up this way I do have 1 question though is it possible to add trim to the rear steering so you can trim it like the front wheels.
I would trim the rear steer channel in the outputs tab. If you want to try and assign a trim switches to it, it gets real complicated...
@@JacobScherer ok perfect the rear steering channel is channel 3 so i think all i need to do is assign the trim switch to the channel
How did you get it to announce the steering modes ????
This is a really helpful video thanks. Only issue I’m having is T4 isn’t switching the Drive modes other than 0 to 1…. L10,11 & 12 switch, but DM stays at DM1 🤷🏼♂️. Other than that I think I’ve got the rest sorted
Glad the video was helpful! Did you copy the order correctly? If multiple logical switches are on at the same time, it will choose the lowest drive mode. I tried to explain this at 4:55 but maybe it wasn't clear.
@@JacobScherer in the end I started from a fresh 'model'. I must have changed something while playing around with the servo mixes before trying this. Now works perfectly. I'd never have managed it without this video though! Big thanks, I now have a 10x10 with 4 modes of steering :)
ok so next question for you, i have a k969 which is the same protocol(i believe) as the 989) why when i set it up like yours does it not connect to my MT12
Not sure how to help, mine worked without any issues? Maybe try changing the RC number or moving the transmitter away from the car?
Influencers were lying to you 13:10 it wouldn’t bind to my traxxas receivers either
ok so first of all GREAT video thank you for that, no on to my question. i have an axial ax24 xc1 crawler with the dsmr 2in1 receiver and it wont bind with the radiomaster mt12 using the R1F prootcol. the number on it is spmxse2425rx any help on thisa issue would be greatly appreciated. i have searcged this issue for about a week and this video has been the closest i have found to an answer. thanks
I don't believe that is a DSM-R receiver, I believe that uses the newer low cost protocol "Spektrum SLT". As of right now, I don't believe it is supported and no one has checked to see if the RF chip is one of the 4 in the 4in1, so we don't know if it even could be supported.
thanks for getting back to me @@JacobScherer i kinda figured that was the case but a guy could hope!
Should test Futaba and Sanwa, those Traxxas and Flysky is trash.
Wow this is a big help now that I have studied it for a week. It’s a lot to get used to but I am liking my M12 more and more.
Tried to repeat this but along with it controlling my dig servo, T4 still changes the trim. How do i remove it's trim function?
Yep, you can turn trims off for all the inputs. The only trim I use on electric models is for steering.
@@JacobScherer Even if I turn trims off for all the inputs, I can still see the little trim arrows move and I get voice prompts "trim is at the center". How can I turn that off as well? Thanks.
My only question is to get my remote to announce what mode it’s in like yours does , mirror , front , rear , crab I’d like my remote to say that
You would set that up in special functions to play a track when the mode is active.
